Both games are already free and can be downloaded directly from Bethesda:

http://www.elderscrolls.com/daggerfall/
Yes everyone knows that already.

I actually was going to say that, but decided against it :P

The Arena version Bethesda provides is the floppy one, the one GOG provides is the CD one. And you could at least have linked to the DosBox wrapped versions.

But yes, one can get Arena and Daggerfall elsewhere legally just fine.

Someone has to state the obvious lol.

It's a sacred responsibility, a duty not all understand.

Then again your obvious statement was about how the OP stated the obvious... obviousception!

it has to be done and we should be proud for doing it. :D
I guess Bethesda agreed with GOG to set Elder Scrolls: Arena & Daggerfall free for those who bought any Bethesda game here, in exchange of its games to become DRM-Free. I mean it might be the reason why these two games are completely free at their website without us having to buy their other games first. I'm not complaining, I just like this strategy.

They say the already available for free requires a workaround to get it working?
I prefer to pay a small fee to have my games easily available for the forseeable future.
I am happy having them here as they are part of the elder scrolls history and not having them here would be like having one of your body parts missing.

What you describe doesn't sound like a sensible move from Bethesda's side.

I'd reckon that Bethesda assume that GOG, being a company and a (soon-to-be) competitor, will benefit from being able to offer more free games.
Even if you're able to get Arena and Daggerfall for free elsewhere, being offered handy installers for these famous prequels to ridiculously famous games may bring new customers to GOG.

I'm pretty sure that giving their competitors the right to distribute their games for free is an entirely different matter for Bethesda than giving the games away themselves and allowing them to be distributed by people like you and me.

Oh I see... Thanks for correcting me. :)

Hey, I'm not working for Bethesda or anything. So I'm in no position that would allow me to "correct" you. Maybe I'm wrong, after all. :D
Yeah but those free games haven't received GOG's magical touch. :)
