Yeah, +1, that's nice of you.

I've had enough of games like these so I'm not in, as well as having a huge backlog of other games. :)
Out of my insomnia haul, this was my favorite. Fun little variant on a tower defense game!

Time is up.
Thanks for taking part, the kind words and the small talk about Defender's Quest.

It was quite easy to select the lucky one. I laughed out loud reading the post - my son only said "cool".

The winner can't get into the bathroom because of the sharks.
How I feel with you, my friend - oh yes I do...
I'd like to add that I learned something new here:
You call them 'sharks' in the States? Interesting. I didn't know that... We use an entirely different word over here. We call them teenagers.

Congrats. pm sent to Bookwyrm627.

Have a great Sunday.

Rofl at "teenagers". Might also explain the lack of more than a 'cool'.

Thanks for the game, and I look forward to playing it!

Idea credits to "If you give a mouse a muffin" (format), Thief Gold (fence in prison), and Resident Evil (bizarre need for keys, sharks in basement").

All right! Congrats Bookwyrm, this is one great game. Really happy you won.

Thanks for the GA RupertMurdock.

Defender's quest...

I must say, i rather enjoyed this game quite a bit while i played it, although the requirement for adobe air is annoying as it's just a flash game effectively which makes it very slow on many computers i've used (although if they recently moved from that i'm not sure).
I've never noticed any sort of slowdown from DQ except in the Endless challenges where there are hundreds of entities onscreen. It's also one of the best games on GOG, and if you don't have it already you should be very concerned for your spiritual wellbeing.
Sharkless bathroom visit accomplished!

This game has been quite amusing, what little I've played so far. I'm rather fond of Slak already!
You will going to love him:

Real men don't need armour. They don't even need clothes. They show their muscles and scars with pride. "Slak, put on some trousers!!!"

Slak and Ketta...

And, Wyrm, don't forget to equip the 'Book of Secrets'. It is more useful than it might seem at the first sight...

Sachys: Not in, but I am amused that the other night I was chatting to the dev of Defenders Quest about the (recent) translations and jokingly suggested a Yorkshire translation - and he actually seemed up for it. What followed was even better with several indie devs and a magazine then calling for it - I don't think any of us were actually serious... but who knows?! - perhaps in a few months you might hear the buttered tones of some dalesman bellow "FOOLS DOUGH ROLL! - YA NUMPTY!" in Skyrim if such a movement were to take off!

Thanks for the GA and avoid the numpties! :)
Technically the text files are easy to edit, all you need is Notepad++. If you have like two or three months of your life to waste, you could make your own translation. The only tricky part is enabling the new language in index.xml (but you could always replace an existing language).

p.s. I don't think he was kidding... much :)

I didn't respond to this yet: thanks!

I've just entered the ancient city ruins. The hospital level where you get the ice mage owned my face the first time, so I went back to grab some extra gold stars. I beat the first extreme challenge, and the Book of Face amused me.

I've mostly left the Book of Secrets equipped, even though it doesn't appear to do anything at all (I've been wondering if it is for a New Game+). I've left the Anon book equipped for the time being as well. Will I get more books than these 3 later in the game?

My biggest question: should I expect to be broke and unable to buy current equipment through most of the game? I've bought several extra recruits (my party has 4 berserkers, 2 rangers, 2 healers, and 2 ice mages right now), but outfitting them with the latest and greatest equipment seems almost an impossible task. It is feeling kind of like Final Fantasy Tactics, where there just isn't enough money to stay up-to-date on equipment, but you don't need the absolute latest stuff.

Rangers are pretty awesome. I'm currently trying to avoid recruiting very many people until I can see all of the classes, but the rangers are being pretty epic for me, and I've debated investing in another two of them.

As with lots of games, money will not be a problem later on. However consider doing the extreme levels that give you bonus weapons/armor.

ZFR already replied to the money part of your question. Yes, your are broke at the beginning. I concentrated on recruiting new party member, that they earn exp as soon as possible. You'll get better weapons whenever you are earning gold stars.

You will get more books. I have 20 of them. The book of secret does nothing during the fights, that's for sure. But maybe you noticed something when you start a level? Did you stumble upon a strange monument? The best books can be found with the help of this book and solving some hard (!) riddles.
There is a website somewhere in the net where all of the solutions of the riddle are listed, can't post a link now as I am writing with my tablet. Have the link stored on my main pc.

Hope this helps.

The first extreme level was possible, but the even the second one owned my face. I've filled in some of the advanced stars for early levels, but for now I'm continuing with the main quest. Thanks for the answer.

No strange monuments yet, unless I'm supposed to click on a piece of terrain during the battle. I'll keep the book equipped and see what I find.
