I wanted to let you know that, effective today, we’ve removed the report system from our forum. It’s something that was formerly designed to enhance your forum experience, but we’ve learnt the hard way that it ultimately did the opposite to some of you, which was never our intention. While we cannot commit to bigger forum optimizations for the time being, we’ve decided to take this step in order to improve your overall experience.

Another frequently brought up topic is the post review system – we are also considering removing this feature for the time being, but would like to listen to your opinions on the matter before we commit to this measure.

hey everyone. I've read your opinions on the downvote/upvote system we had and I liked your suggestions to leave the option to upvote and remove the downvote option that unfortunately helps in spreading negativity and can be under bot attacks.

That's why, as you may have noticed, starting well, a couple of minutes ago, we've removed the option to downvote posts.

Cavalary: Being strict about no off-topic really stifles a forum.
That's why I proposed wise moderation, not a strict one. Rules enforcement should be fair and sufficient, based on common sense.

Cavalary: in general, mods should intervene in case of clear, unquestionable, rule violations
Best moderators are persons, who are elected from active users, and know specifics of their sub-forum well. They could figure out, in which threads some off-topic would be appropriate.

Besides, they are interested in reading most of the topics and participating to discussions as normal users. But being moderators, they will also clean up mess and issue warnings in process.

In rare cases, blues ( not mods ) must intervene, to make a decision about possible ban.

Cavalary: they already did that with links to "competitors" and the result was bothersome to say the least
Rules have to be reasonable, precise and approved by community.

I think, if forum will be moderated in better way, the majority of users would not need a post-hiding functionality anymore.

fr33kSh0w2012: This because of all the ABUSE I have suffered in the past with spiteful users on the forums.

AlexTerranova: So, if you hide message by accident, it is impossible to restore? You might even forget, that there is a hidden post, while it can actually contain useful information.)
You can't hide a message by accident, you have to add it manually which means that you always have the option to remove it anytime too.

To what purpose?
You can't see anyone else's REP now and they can't see yours, so what would a huge downvote for the majority achieve?

Lots of folk here have gotten at least some of their REP from helping others, so on what grounds would you remove that?

I am presuming you are one of those in the negative. If so, you could approach GOG to restore yourself back to zero, and possibly it wouldn't be long before you got some positive REP and could post links etc again. You could even get together with others in the same situation, and do a petition to GOG.

A hide function is simpler, more likely, and usable for anyone, regardless of what "the majority" thinks.
I might consider making another addon script to add a hide function to posts if enough people gift me games from my wishlist :P

Don't be too keen funny man, GOG might yet do their own solution, and then people will ask you for the games or money back. :P

Ask again in a fortnight if GOG haven't done anything. :P

No refunds obviously. The offer is non-negotiable.

I might, if I remember to, or if someone pays me an advance for the job by gifting a game :P

Time to chime in. Beautiful work on finally mitigating the downvote bot squad. Rep club has been broken for quite a while anyway, and people have been talking about rep pretty much non stop ever since most of us discovered that there was a bot squad.

Not to nitpick though! I am very happy downvote has been removed. As a long time user, I would appreciate if you guys could somehow restore report but do it in a way where it's public, so that way when you get the inevitable report spam for the previously low rated individuals, everybody and their momma can see who reported them.

I'm not sure how much time and money you have in improving the forums, but I think this would be bigly huge.

If report is not able to be instituted in a way where it is public, I would maybe recommend setting up a custom filter for the mods to catch obvious spam posts. I'd suggest going after anyone named xvlkajdflksj for example.

Very very very happy, was going to post the other day but IRL has been a bit hectic and I'm struggling to keep mentally afloat.

Have a most excellent day and thank you for listening to us!

^ This. :) Post-hiding would allow me to personalize my reading experience, without censoring the post for others who may enjoy reading what I do not.

Well, that was a dumb change, I guess i should get used to them.

At least be consistent and remove ratings entirely instead of this half measure. I never would've expected for GoG to go with the Youtube route of controlling the community.

If you ever feel useless, remember there were people who dedicated part of their life downvoting the posts on a Gog forum, just to lose such option after couple of years of their abuse of the voting system.
