You guys got very unlucky when Lift chose you both. :) I think a more experienced group would not have passed you, but considering how Agent played, my meta might not be as common as I thought.

I don't want to critique too much, although I would be curious on any feedback comparing to Mafia and if your relative inexperience and Mafia habits tripped you up?

So let me offer some positive feedback.

I will say Dess had me fooled until late. The only thing pinging my alarm was his being just a little too buddy buddy to me, when his actions did not 100% align with it. He had the luxury of not having been in the spotlight early of course.

Hijack did the best he could on a bad spot. He slipped hard, but managed to get back up and I almost started believing it could have been Lift instead of him.

And JMich I mostly wonder how he felt when he got outed so to speak. He put in some real strong attempts at throwing mud at me, and evading my insinuations.

I have to commend all three for not jumping harder on me. I'm sure the temptation was strong. ;)

Whoops I had my circuits crossed on the "Mission Fail" and "Accept / Reject Mission" person - just as funny on your part as well - got a kick out of both of them!

Sure! It's pretty short though.

I disagree. I think that actually could have turned out well. I think the trouble came when neither spy failed the second mission. Even if they had both failed it, it would have been better than neither. Being two missions down just sealed the deal for them, leading to the rather anti-climatic ending we had.
I think playing as Resistance is much more similar to vanilla town, than spy is to mafia. It was a good play by spies, but I think they undervalued the importance of failing missions.

Yeah, so... From my perspective, three things caught me off guard:
- I was a spy.
- Brasas correctly guessed my two fellow spies too soon.
- HijacK took me on the team for M2.

For M2 I feel like I knew that one of us must fail the mission. But why, why, why did HijacK take me on the mission that is about to fail?!? Or did I feel wrong? I thought HijacK would fail the mission, so I passed and meh.Wrong choice.

And then M3 I figured HijacK's words "I simply can't fail" is a hint. Though I realised this after my "celebration". And that it's almost expected of me to not screw up second time. Ehh...

...

I may sometimes play good as scum, but being a spy woth no clear way of communicating just did 't work for me. And still, I would enjoy another such game very very much, but more so if I was resistence.

Or if I learned a thing or two about communication.

It was also tense.

I see why you say that, but it was their first game ever. They managed very well to get placed on teams, and trusted to go on missions, but likely hesitated when it came to sticking the knife. I still think those hesitations were more caused by "what if he also fails it?" and that therefore their bigger learning should be around managing team votes. Afterall, the trust was because they were passing the missions, so change that, and it's a whole new game.

PS: Is the link hunting a mini game of sorts? ;)
Dess, I don't want to be too harsh on Hijack and JMich, but you were were the spy that I think played best... :)
Both of them however needed to handle the spotlight whereas you did not. So you had a large contextual advantage over them.

I answered this in the game, trying to get the other Resistance to see it as well. I need to run, but maybe you can be more specific so I deepdive?

In short: Too many yes votes for Lift. Too many no votes for agent. Hijack not choosing himself out of the gate.
The way both of them reacted solidified my read, the way everyone else hardly reacted kept me in doubt.

PS: Hijack was almost forced to take you by his "let's get feedback, I'm obvi-resistance" approach.

And I picked two spies for the first mission. What are the odds? Funny.

Btw. Dessimu, I think you did well. At least you appeared totally resistancy to me. Just the spy-communication needs some work. :-)

Don't be too hard on yourself. You trusted because they were passing missions. In the end that handed us the game. :)

I think if only one spy had failed Mission 3, it would have still been anyone's game. Town may have flipped out, giving opportunity for spies to maneuver.

Sadly, it didn't work out. I'm not sure if spies trying to pass messages is more or less hazardous than in the actual game. I gather that Brasas plays where people can leave the table; we always remain at the table from game start to game finish (unless getting a drink or something, but it has always been played in the kitchen).

By the way... If you want to play in a forum Resistance game, I'll be happy to mod or assist mod. Unlike Mafia games the setup does not really require balancing, so should be straighforward. And I think it worked fairly well, but would like to see at least 3 more games still with vanilla Resistance to confirm being able to keep the vote registry is not OP towards town.



Anyway, read it. Noticed it is kind of hard to figure out when the comments were being made.
Thought for the future - observers can make some posts framing: Mission 1 votes just in. Mission 1 just passed. Etc...

Also noticed Bookwyrm commenting on the vote no, vote often tack I advocate...

Which brings nicely to this.

First, with how Agent was voting and now your comments, I really wonder if my group's meta is that unusual. I can kind of see a probabilistic case for being default trusting on the very first mission - chances are you luck onto all resistance after all. And I will easily admit I / we never manage to get all players to go for the no no no strategy. But I really don't see how playing to make life easier for spies is overall good. Yes, spies have to also be distrustful to fit in. But they have the temptation of breaking cover. And when missions Fail or Pass (we always approve the last one precisely because we want that data as well) there is something to tie it all.

And really in tabletop no one really rememebers all the votes. You are trying to remember the ones that were strange and make a theory on why the heck.

Also waiting on Agent to comment because the way he was voting (and Lift, but with Lift I discounted its meaning) is what helped shift me away from Hijack/ JMich / 3rd spy and towards Lift / Agent / Dess or Cristi / Hijack / Agent. It's like, when Dess gave himself from the suggestion of risking the team choice for the win I was actually more leaning to Lift having been the other spy and having played conservative on M1, with Agent then choosing to throw a feint and suggest himself with his buddy. Then Lift posted and I was like: 0_o "That's not the post spy Lift would do. [Reread Hijack reaction to the double Fail...] I was right about Hijack and JMich? Fuucck meee"

Second. About the "people can leave the table" guess. What gave you that idea? We play very much like you. Even down to doing it in the kitchen. :D
