And I mean GREAT BIG watermelons. Juicy and sweet, like momma used to serve at a Sunday picnic.
Not those fucking cubes the Japanese make.
What was the question?

JMich: Train of thought.
Mod posts a message. Read the message. Could someone be manipulating the mod? Who could be manipulating the mod? Do we have people with unknown powers? What would that mean for current scum suspects?
Post hypothesis.
Prod hypothesis. What does that mean about the rest of the game? Are there things that don't hold up under scrutiny? Does someone confirm or deny said hypothesis? Is the hypothesis still worth following?

So no, at that point, I didn't give a second thought to whether town could win if dead scum could manipulate the mod to post messages. And since wyrm did give reasons to believe that said hypothesis can be tossed out the window, I did subsequently ignored the possibility of spectres being able to manipulate the mod.
[...]
And when you reached the point "What would that mean for current scum suspects?" the issue of your hypothesis breaking something as basic as each side having a realistic chance at winning the game didn't cross your mind...
For a guy that looks at all angles and possibilities it sure sounds off that you'd toy with a scenario without actually looking into all possible implications.

See train of thought above. Start with "Who can possibly say that if we lynch him, town loses, then backtrack and say a mislynch means town loses". Could they be playing us for a fool? Why would they be doing that?
Thus the reason I don't often vote for someone early on. Then again, 3 days of misunderstanding do seem excessive, thus a vote, and a post pointing out a possible coaching. Then when the mod posts something that casts doubt on the hypothesis, withdraw to reevaluate.
That's half the story, so I'd like a straight answer - did you think it more likely that cristigale told the truth when she claimed or that she lied?

yogsloth: What was the question?
who is going to die, and when?
It seems we're going to reach night again with no conclusive vote on scum. Not really sure what to do about it.
Adalia simply voting for me doesn't seem good enough reason to vote back at him (he REALLY seems obsessed with how I'm some newbie scum, mentioning it in every post of his, as if his experiment was somehow super-conclusive about something- I honestly don't see it, but I admit, I'm biased :D), and him having one random person plus 3 scum in a concerted effort to get rid of him seems plausible.

All of the votes for adalia are from at least 3 days ago (and not changed since then), and many seem to be a response to his "If you kill me you lose!" (although some were voting for him before that too)- is that scummy, or just desperate? Or is his recent fatalism assumed to be "Scum would still be 2 strong, and we might even have a vote from a spectre on our side"? I admit, adalia (and Dessimu before him) have been flying under my radar for a while, I just took their stuff as the usual infighting noise. I've reread back from the beginning of this day, but could some of the voters explain their reasoning?

Mean time, I've had some horrible hours recently, and my sleep cycle is messed. It is 6am, and I am going to sleep. Will probably be back before the day ends.
The spectres will help, but it is the living that will truly win the game.

If you don't like anyone else, may I suggest selecting a lurker? Kill someone who is under the radar.

Bookwyrm627: ... it is the living that will truly win the game.
why do you say that?

this got me thinking about numbers, and if the spectres could actually win the game if there are enough days with the necessary combination of kills and the spectres all being Good to make it happen (not that that is a goal, but, what else am I doing with the rest of this Day?)
I'm just typing it out and thinking it through but it could be off, and of course it could go many other ways

(D3) - 3 Evil - 7 Good - 2 Spectres
(D4) - 2 Evil - 6 Good - 3 Spectres
(D5) - 2 Evil - 4 Good - 4 Spectres
(D6) - 1 Evil - 3 Good - 5 Spectres
(D7) - 1 Evil - 1 Good - 6 Spectres

RWarehall: At least with flips, we'll have an idea if we are on the right track. HijacK might have been a no-brainer given Christie's claim, but as we move along, such a reveal will be much more valuable.
avatar
adaliabooks: But do we get flips? Or did we just get that one because cristi wasn't dead yet?

@cristi - Can you clarify? Is that something you can continue to do or was it a remnant of investigating HijacK while you were still alive?
Catching up. If it wasn't clear from my lunch post, it was a remnant from being alive.
This is going to be long, bear with me...

The good thing is Adalia has now successfully broken through my doubts. I am now absolutely convinced he is scum. No doubts about it. He's been playing his best version of Yogsloth. Throw shit at the fan, vote different people, gauge people's reactions, and find enough sympathy and doubt to avoid a lynch.

I like how he's now trying to claim I'm an opportunistic scum jumping on a rolling wagon, when I voted him before there was a wagon. I'm the 2nd vote.

So why did I vote him? Quite simple really, let's go back to post #817. I know there are a lot of "if, this, then, what" but the big thing is this...
Adalia asked the Coroner if really alive to come out and claim in a game where we have to protect our power roles. This, with a complicated explanation, that boils down to he's worried about Christie, a spectre who we can do nothing about.

I had barely got my feet wet, but I knew talk of power roles, let alone revealing power roles was particularly bad this game.

So why would someone make this mistake. The answer seemed simple. A townie, wouldn't. We've thought this through, we've considered the ramifications. Scum, on the other hand, well, not like it bothers them one way or the other.

Now there is a second element to that post which has huge ramifications....
(Coming in part 2)

cristigale: [...]

Don't I wish. :)
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Why did you say this?
I thought chicken was joking that I might still have something undisclosed...who was scum.

avatar
cristigale: As the coroner, I had the ability to have the mod share my results, but it was limited in use.
avatar
JMich: Wait, what? You had the ability as the coroner, yet you used it while a spectre? I thought spectres lost their original powers.
Yes, it surprised me, both that I got the results of my investigation and that I could still do the public reveal. I don't know why. My guess is that it was an attempt to balance the game. That's just a guess.

Caught up to see the mod answered the question.

Looking forward to RWarehall's part 2
Part 2
If you want to doubt my reasoning, thinking I'm revising history, look at post #819. I explained it briefly then.

Now back to it....
Same post #817 Adalia talks of spotting a slip, but isn't sure he should reveal it. We'll come back to this in a bit...

Post #825 where, after taking flak for #817 he starts the Yogsloth dance...trying to explain it away, it's ok, there's some sense here, we are in dire straits, oh btw,

"if you lynch me today then town definitely loses"

So right after we had this discussion of how bad it would be to provide role reveals, we get a role claim, with one role left.

Now notice how many posts follow before another Adalia response and his attempt to zig and zag...

Now in post #862 comes the "revelation" Adalia is convinced Yogs is scum, but, btw, he might be the last power role. But after all this discussion of how bad it is to talk power roles, and how stupid it would be to soft claim your own power role, let's out Yogsloth for possibly having a power role, because receiving multiple PMs means he might actually be scum too.

Can you not keep talking about power roles? Do you not get it that revealing them is what loses the game for town? But here Adalia is, doing everything in his power to keep the role discussion going. No townie would do this!

So, why am I not speaking up louder during this? Quite simple. I was afraid of the elephant in the room...power roles. I didn't want to contribute to talking about them, I thought people would see on their own why Adalia has to go.

But let's look again at Post #862...something is missing...
For all this, we have to take a chance, maybe I'm losing the game for town talk, well, here's Yogsloth who is either scum or our last power role. But where is his vote?

You just possibly outed the last power role...taken this big chance...and you don't actually vote for the person you find so scummy you will risk the entire game for?

Part 3 forthcoming...
In case you're waiting, bump...

babark: ...and many seem to be a response to his "If you kill me you lose!" (although some were voting for him before that too)- is that scummy, or just desperate? ...but could some of the voters explain their reasoning?
*does the hard work* (hah, I've been typing this over some time, coming back to it for a few minutes here and there, I see RW has gone into it too! nice)

It's simply scummy.

The "if you kill me you lose" statement is only true if adalia is the exorcist. It makes absolutely no sense to make that soft-claim (and I'd pretty much call it a solid-soft claim! a false one) if he were truly the exorcist because:

if it was an attempt to not get lynched as the last remaining PR, he'd still get NKed, and then the game would be over anyway, it makes no sense for the last PR to ever reveal themselves at this point, even at L-1 (this is directed at you, exorcist, if you aren't already aware that you shouldn't. you should claim vanilla - at least that's how I see it)

if he is vanilla Good, he shouldn't/wouldn't have lied about being a PR (town doesn't lie, except in those RARE occasions, this is not one of those occasions, not even close), and he knows the game well enough to know all of this, especially in a setup like this (it just sews confusion and doubt, something no Good would want to do)

it makes sense to do as scum because:

as you see, it has sewn doubt and confusion, and is wiggling votes off of him, exactly as scum would do (a vanilla would take the lynch proudly as to then KNOW that we wouldn't be mis-lynching a PR - often in forum mafia games the vanilla town PMs read "your only power is to die for your team" - and it is truly a power at times, and is especially so here now)

it also opens the door for a True counter-claim (good job exorcist on not counter-claiming!), which is a far-fetched thing to get here now, but, scum will try anything, and you never know, with 2 new players in the game (though locw is experienced in the live version), you never know, it could prompt a "there's no way that's true because I'M the PR, not you!" if someone was being not-smart (*gasp*)

now, if adalia really is the exorcist, he made a mistake and there's nothing we can do about it, imo (remember scum would want you to have that fear and doubt and question the possibility enough that you ultimately don't lynch them), we've got to go with the confidence that town wouldn't make that mistake, especially after it had been talked about so much

there's like, I dunno *tosses out random high number* 37 other reasons and indications that adalia is scum too
