Lifthrasil: Would you consider joining the game as a replacement for supplementscene? Even if you have only little time, a little is better than none at all and Scene seems to be missing completely.

FlockeSchnee: Hello. I don't know, if your offer still stands. Only logged in again today, so, sorry for the late reply. Oh, I haven't played like in forever. Unfortunately, I haven't followed the game either. It would probably just hurt my team about the same as taking the player out altogether. I'm currently sick, so that probably won't help getting back into Mafia either. I'm not outright against giving it a(nother) try, but just so everyone knows, I would probably only post bare minimum. And of course I would have to try and catch up with what's going on. And I have no idea about the setup. Election and Investigation. So, in all honesty, I don't see me subbing in ending well, but I would give it my best (whatever that may be at present).

EDIT: Oh, I just remembered quicktopic is gone. I don't know how Mafia chat works now.
WELCOME BACK!

Honestly, you giving your best, however little that may be at the moment, will be better than modkilling a player.

Faction chats moved to proboards, if you need a chat, I'll send you the login instructions via PM along with your role information.

Welcome to the game and thank you for subbing in!

If you find you can't do it after all, just PM me. We can then still modkill you. But I'd rather avoid that if at all possible.

.

Thanks for having me. If I can't do it, I will let you know. I hope, it won't come to this though. We'll see.

I need to AFK to feed my cat. I will reply to trent when I get back.
So, who's next?
Cats and dogs.

Yeah, that's a Catventurer game.

It's the house of a pet lover. The cats are the townies and they're also the scum, the issue is, the scum cats want to somehow convince their owners to bring dogs into the house too.

Or it's a pet shop and our scum are cats that want to flee the shop together without getting owned by owners. The Nightkills/Lynches in this case are cats that get bought out. Which means the entire motive for scum to, well, be scummy, is so they can escape on their own? So essentially busting out scum means ruining the scum's plan of just becoming cat nomads in arms.

PookaMustard: Cats and dogs.

Yeah, that's a Catventurer game.
Actually a Catventurer game would be more like....

You're all game villains attending your weekly Bad-Anon support meeting.

Bad-Anon -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxeR95aYer0

However instead of being a touchy feelly Disney movie about a villain having a crisis of villainy and wanting to be a hero, you all arrive to find the body of Albert Wesker (Resident Evil) laying dead on the floor in a pool of his own blood because someone is killing off villains. Special appearances by Resident Evil heroes looking for their villain offer because the mysterious entity known only as The Player has launched Resident Evil. When Wesker fails to show up in the game, The Player loses interest and the Resident Evil heroes fade away as their game is uninstalled.

Town Team: Villains that are loyal to the principles of Bad-Anon. Your reasons for why you are part of Bad-Anon are your own. Maybe you're like Ralph and feel unappreciated by the rest of your game's cast and just need a reminder that you matter. Maybe you're like Zangief and already understand that somebody has to do what you do and who is going to it if not you.

Mafia Team: Villains that have formed a secret alliance with the goal of getting The Player to spend more time playing your respective games. You intend to achieve these goals by eliminating the Bad-Anon loyalists.

Well if we're going with violent eliminations and games:

A game set after the events of Ready Player One. The corporation that wants to take over the Oasis is back at it again and they have infiltrated the top of the Oasis's management. Why bother going through all the key collections and cryptic as hell clues the new owner will inevitably make, if you can just take down the management?

Since that corporation has already displayed they were willing to kill and destroy real lives to take over a virtual world, they're also not above such methods. Mafia would be the elite of the elite of these guys, people who know how to act and are very familiar with videogame trivia, basically anything that will make them get hired as management in that company. When the time is right, they do something that causes the whole management to decide: "Let's get rid of the scum using the old, tried and tested method of playing Mafia with them and firing anyone suspicious for real."

That kind of flavor, anyway.
I would play both of these settings!

Lifthrasil: I would play both of these settings!
Just note that I'd like to continue the theme of non-violent eliminations, so if I do The Oasis thing, I might just make it so it's the usual. You know, everyone found that Ms. Lera has futanari hentai on her pho- sorry, online Oasis storage, she's getting fired, oh no she's Town. Oh wait Mr. Barnley has a chat with those IOI scum!!! So he too must be scum!!! FIRE HIM! And then, oh, Mr. Woodward bought a self-help book for how to overcome anger, we must fire him so he doesn't get mad at us, oh no he was Town all along, we could have used some of that anger on the IOI scum...

That sort of vibe.
Okay and here's another idea.

[NUMBER] players have applied to a local competition called "The Wine In Front of Me". The host of the show is only offering some three bottles of fine wine as a prize, but promises it'd be a nice opportunity to make some friendships with a game of... Mafia. After you push your new pals to the limit first, of course.

Yeah, kind of meta, you're playing Mafia as a bunch of people playing a game of Mafia. Look, it was bound to happen.

I think the twist is that each player is assigned a bottle of wine. The scum have regular water in their wine bottles, but everyone refers to these wine bottles as "poisoned wine". To open any of the bottles and taste their wine would be how you flip in this game.

PookaMustard: Well if we're going with violent eliminations and games:
I may be 100% hugs and kittens most of the time, but mafia is a game of murder and lies.

Here is a semi-violent role madness concept in that there are still night kills, but day lynches don't result in death.

The town of [to_be_determined] is hosting the Fifth Annual Heroes Convention!

All players are D&D heroes (or claim to be.) Because this is a fantasy medieval setting, there's a lot of trust that the person claiming to be a specific hero is actually that person and not someone else just posing as that individual. If you've just met Norran Shadowseeker for the first time, do you really know that the elf before you is the famed vampire slayer of Barovia and not an imposter? When several townsfolk (NPCs) are found dead, it quickly becomes apparent that the convention has been infultrated by murder hobos.

// Side Note - Murder hobos are a specific type of D&D player that just wants to go around killing NPCs and looting. They don't bother talking to NPCs, so they don't do quests either... and are just a general nuisance to all DMs. //

Day Phase (day 1 only) - The game begins with the death of one NPC hero and several townfolk to set the scene. The number of dead townsfolk is always equal to the number of murder hobos present in the game.

Night Phase - Murder hobos have a compulsion to murder. They are required to team up as a group to attempt to kill at least one hero every night, which may or may not be successful. They will also individually kill random NPCs equal to the number of murder hobos present in the game.

Day Phase (reoccurring) - Alignment of impressioned character is finally revealed (hero / murder hobo.) If they are determined to be a hero, they will be immediately released. However since heroes typically do not appreciate being tossed into prison, they will typically leave to go do something heroic. If they are determined to be a murder hobo, they will remained in prison for the rest of the game.

Concept Inspiration - Neverwinter Nights: Tyrants of the Moonsea. There's a part where you meet a group calling itself the Dukes of Daggerforld. They'll claim to be the heroes that saved the town of Daggerford (in the module Darkness Over Daggerford.) One of the dialogue options is something to the extent of "actually that was me" to which they admit that they were lying for fame and glory.

I have an idea for one that is 100% non-violent based on Call of Cthulhu. Mafia team is a non-recruiting cult that worships Great Old One or Outer God of their choice. Town team are all investigators. Because Call of Cthulhu is a game where your investigator can be eliminated numerous ways, most eliminations will be that the player was either hospitalized or committed to a sanitarium.

Oh and investigator doesn't mean that you have a night action that lets you investigate, I specifically mean investigator occupations from the Call of Cthulhu RPG such as Dilettante, Author, Professor, etc.

Lifthrasil: I would play both of these settings!
The thing is that I have never run a game solo. I've always had someone help me out that determines what types of role powers we need for the game for each side, then I write up all the lore and role powers based on the setting, then we split the mod duties during the game. With how easily sick I get and how often that I've been getting sick lately, I don't think it would be a good idea for me to even attempt to solo mod a game at the moment.

Catventurer: I may be 100% hugs and kittens most of the time, but mafia is a game of murder and lies.
As much as I understand this, I'm pretty much sticking with this sort of vibe for my games at least because it's different and sometimes more creative. Plus I can make it rub off the remainder of the games like I did with day chats; it has already resulted in the Conclave by Lift.

I'm still trying to come up with new ideas, but this will take time.

You might get a co-mod from the 'I don't have time to play' crowd. Two mods with half-time result in one full-time mod. ;-)

That could always work too. Even though I felt sicker back in January, I really feel tired a lot and have been doing more sleep. I've only been up for an hour and already feel like I want to go back to bed. That's how tired I am at the moment.
