JoeSapphire: If it's done before the game begins it doesn't need to be random! The mod can list their players in order of preference to establish lynch priority, then send out the roles.
Mod can just list them in order he likes the players and the least liked would go first in case of tie so the mod will get rid of them. Then it could be re-assesed for following Days. It would make players behave nicely toward mod and to suck up to them.

Before I forget again:
I suggest making game #75's flavor to be themed after the 75th Hunger Games. This particular Hunger Games is also known as the "Third Quarter Quell," and I think it's only fitting, given how long-running GOG Mafia is.

low rated
joppo: I agree with highest wagon lynch, in fact it should be the default. I'd also include that in case of wagons tied at the time of EoD there needs to be something to untie them and pick one lucky soul who will be sent to join the observer thread early. Simplest solution is random.org , but it could even be based on some other metric.
Sounds good. joppo: For example word count during [that Day / the whole game] for each lynch candidate (punishes lurkers, so it is a incentive for those players to post more).
In that case i'd hate to be the unlucky player if they got tied with me at EOD. ;) *other tied player eyes GR's post/word count warily*

Well, what I announced in the signup-thread before signing up has come to pass now: it's the start of my vacation. that means, the next two and a half weeks I will have internet access only sporadically and only on mobile. So my participation will lack even more than it did so far. If you have another replacement on hand, feel free to replace me. If there is no one to take over, I'll try my best to participate as much as I can. But there will be days when we hike and there is no net.

my name is supyreor catte: I agree. One thing a town player can be sure of is their townness. Therefore literally anyone else has a higher chance of being scum from that perspective.
ZFR: Exactly. If you come online 10 mins before deadline and find yourself tied at the lead with someone else. You can break the tie by voting for your opponent. Wouldn't you change your vote and vote them to save yourself, no matter how you read them. Would it be held against you for doing so? I know I'd do it: I'm Town. So better somone else on the chance they're scum.
If saving yourself by breaking the tie through a vote change is OK, than I don't see why saving yourself through a quick-wall-text-post is not OK.
Heck, the only way I wouldn't save myself is if I'm Mafia, and the other person is a more useful Mafioso, like a strongarm. As Town, I can't be sure how useful the other person is.
If however they just want to find a lazy way to remain in the game it doesn't do their reputation in Town any favors. I'd probably feel tempted to change my vote from their opponent only to punish a lazy attempt at throwing someone else under the bus.
And to press the point: the more they're forced to say to save themselves the more the rest of Town has available to read and properly gauge whether they shouldn't be the next Day's lynch (if they survive the current Day).
I never said it was a perfect system. I just think it is fairer than most alternatives that I've seen so far, and that while it is possible to game this system (same as others) one can't expect to do it a second time in the same game with impunity.

Would you hold it against anyone to break a tie and save themselves by voting the other person with 10 mins remaining? How is that different from breaking a tie by posting a wall of text.
10 mins remaining till EoD.
This system encourages quantity over quality.
Why not, what's to prevent anyone from posting a wall of text a second time?
Unless you mean, that the second time that person will simply be lynched without a tie. But in that case, what's so special about this system? How is this different from say a random.org tiebreaker. A person who survived a tie after random.org should have same amount of town-cred as a person who posted a wall of text to save himself.
A and B are tied.
case 1) B posted a wall of text to save himself.
case 2) random.org selected A as the lynch.
Why should the next Day B not able to do the same thing with impunity in case 1 as opposed to case 2.
Guess we have to disagree then. I think "first to reach that number" and "random.org pre day start" and even "random.org at Day end" are better.

I always forget this thread is a thing.
Does anyone here watch Survivor? I like how their ties got broken at tribal council back in the day before they shifted to fire-making challenges.
They vote once. If there are people who are tied they vote again but without the previously tied players. If there is a tie again everyone BUT the tied players draws rocks and the odd rock out gets voted out. Obviously it's too many steps for our situation but only the last bit can be used. If people allowed a tie between 2 or more others without resolving it one of the non-tied players goes. Provides incentive to not allow such things to happen.
