But yes, Trent and Lift are correct in their assertion that Lunching was something done to desperadoes long before race played a part. yes, there have been very sad cases of race playing a part, but there have been just as many cases where the adjudicated guilty rapist, murderer, deserter, thief, etc was strung up by the neck--courts used to prescribe hanging as the standard measure of punishment for capital crimes, and nearly every crime that resulted in loss of life was a capital offense. So, while it was a tool of mobs, it was also used as a solemn form of capital punishment by the town elders in absence of any other method. In the Old West, any horse thief or rustler who was caught with the goods on himself met this end, regardless of skin color.

At least we no longer use the old "drawn-and-quartered" method, unlike Edward Longshanks. However, such a punishment might fit a mafia game set in medieval times.

If you like looking into weird torture/punishment methods & other odd things of the past(and present), I think there's a channel on youtube with such(if you're not squeamish of descriptions of such) done in a cartoon-infographics style that might appeal to you.

Honestly, it could have been quite straightforward debate of Joe stating what was wrong with it, why people don't like it and how it shouldn't ever happen. Cadaver could easily apologize and promise to try to be better in the future but instead he came with big gesture of banning himself, made it more abouit himself and made people tell him not to take such drastic measures and to stay, thus shifting narrative of the debate elsewhere (if one can call it debate at all).
You started doubting it should have been discussed publicly at all and falesely called Joe out for publicly shaming Cadaver while he never did and his post was quite respectful. I suppose it was your own attempt to brush it off?
You said you welcome "a real conversation about what jokes are acceptable or not" but in that case you need to show why Joe's attempt doesn't meet your expectations.

It's not that it directly makes someone do it, it's that if it appears on regular as joke, as not-serious thing or as acceptable behaviour in culture it helps to establish the mindset that there is nothing wrong with it when people talk about it playfully and such can lead to normalizing it.

Nobody knows. He just appeared one day and started to boss us around and we just figured it would be better to fall in line and not to argue. Well, we tried at first but after few people disappeared we figured it would be better to just keep our heads low.

On serious note, maybe it will be see as double standards but I have absolutely no problem with term lynch. It's part of the game and it is understood such by everyone so it's something I don't find problematic at all.
It's also true I am European and non-native English speaker (what a shocker, AMIRITE?) so it's just a term for me, so I get it is possible I just don't get it.

I was trying to illustrate a point.....I never said or meant to infer(if I somehow did) that you said those things.

Tbh unless such caused(or was shown to cause) IRL h*rm(I mean physical h*rm or major mental h*rm) I don't see as much of a problem(as others) with such(within reason, in the proper settings & with exceptions, of course).

Of course I know others might not like reading some things, so I try to show others a modicum of respect(within reason) in any public setting(online and offline).

Here are my problems

1) You can't have a productive conversation by attacking specific users . Joe accomplished the exact opposite, and drove a member of the community away permanently.

2) The entire premise for this "conversation" was an overreaction. He told a light, theme appropriate joke about spanking that the other person played along with.

3) Not everyone participating genuinely cared. It was clearly about virtue signalling for some people.

4) I talked to Cadaver and he was embarrassed and hurt. Joe claims that we're all friends here, but this is not how you treat a friend.

Frankly, I'm still disgusted by what happened. Either you drop it, or I am leaving as well.

I've spoke with Laser about it privately and he understand my position, just thinks it was misguided.

I don't know if he has anything more to say on the matter, but I don't think it's necessary to go into it further.

Yeah I did. I know he's taking a break from mafia but I don't think has had a profound effect on his life, the conversation we had about it things seemed fine.
