LASER97: Accusing someone of being insensitive about rape in public draws negative implications about their character, especially to outsiders without context. Do I really need to explain this to you?
We should have a real conversation about what jokes are acceptable or not, but this was a pathetic attempt at doing so.
So is your problem only with the fact Carradice called it rape joke or that Joe tried ot have serious discussion about it?
Do you think it should have been discussed? Do you think it should be talked about but leaving out the reason the debate is talking place?
Honestly, it could have been quite straightforward debate of Joe stating what was wrong with it, why people don't like it and how it shouldn't ever happen. Cadaver could easily apologize and promise to try to be better in the future but instead he came with big gesture of banning himself, made it more abouit himself and made people tell him not to take such drastic measures and to stay, thus shifting narrative of the debate elsewhere (if one can call it debate at all).
You started doubting it should have been discussed publicly at all and falesely called Joe out for publicly shaming Cadaver while he never did and his post was quite respectful. I suppose it was your own attempt to brush it off?
You said you welcome "a real conversation about what jokes are acceptable or not" but in that case you need to show why Joe's attempt doesn't meet your expectations.
GameRager: And games about k*lling and ars*n and such create criminals, and rock music leads people to the devil....I personally don't buy it(at least to such a degree).
Have I ever said that? Because I don't recall I did.
GameRager: As to "normalizing" such: I honestly don't think anyone is going to read such and go "oh I guess I should commit x or y crime or vile act now because this joke seems to make it ok".
It's not that it directly makes someone do it, it's that if it appears on regular as joke, as not-serious thing or as acceptable behaviour in culture it helps to establish the mindset that there is nothing wrong with it when people talk about it playfully and such can lead to normalizing it.
PLASMA97: Whose alt are you by the way?
Nobody knows. He just appeared one day and started to boss us around and we just figured it would be better to fall in line and not to argue. Well, we tried at first but after few people disappeared we figured it would be better to just keep our heads low.
ZFR: pwn sounds good actually.
You use dumb internet slang and you will never see me again.
Maybe I shouldn't have said that... :-)
I propose to flub someone.
Misflub, noflub, flubbed.
On serious note, maybe it will be see as double standards but I have absolutely no problem with term lynch. It's part of the game and it is understood such by everyone so it's something I don't find problematic at all.
It's also true I am European and non-native English speaker (what a shocker, AMIRITE?) so it's just a term for me, so I get it is possible I just don't get it.
