Having had a few hours to consider it, I am issuing the three of you warnings for out-of-game chat. Whilst I perhaps could have been clearer, my post was not and should not have been construed as an invitation to discuss a game in progress, and you all should have known better. HSL's comment earns particular notice for being insubordinate; as the game's mod, it is my right and prerogative to pass comment on aspects of play which negatively influence the game, insofar as those comments do not influence the game in play. The issues that I have brought to attention are ones which I have given long and serious thought to as the game has progressed, and have made a decision not to moderate on in the present game; by mentioning them here, I was signalling an intent not to tolerate them in future games, as well as showing a desire not to make such decisions in a cloak and dagger fashion. These are things which can be talked about once the game has concluded; however, in line with the game's rules, they are not to be discussed at present. In retrospect, I should have been firmer in my responses, and I am thankful to the GOGFather for issuing a notice not to engage in out-of-game chat.

These are your one and only warnings to not engage in out-of-game chat, and my decision on this matter is final. I fully expect that my inbox will be ringing with protest.

Nice job being overbearing. Just because you are currently modding a game doesn't make you God. You started this mess, posting your complaints on this admin thread in the middle of your own game. Of course people were going to respond. It's your damn fault...not theirs...

Funny how you cite MU with regards to avatars, but ignore the fact that on MU, every game has discussion of past player actions. I don't recall a single game where someone hasn't been asked to produce links to prior games they played both as Town and as Scum. It's only natural in a game of deduction to look at other player's past tendencies to determine trustworthiness. You can't make rules to legislate that out of the game.
Edit: No longer relevant.

If anything up to this point I've been branded a soft touch, having taken every possible action to accommodate for my players, so your criticism seems wide of the mark. I'd appreciate it if you saved any further commentary until after the game.

If your idea of soft touch and growing the game is criticizing your player base in the administration thread, then admonishing them for responding and threatening them as being insubordinate, then you are an idiot.

I love you too.
Can you take my name off the new game notification list please.
This whole mess is just overreactions upon overreactions upon overreactions.

Remember the innocent time when we just dished out paranoid mob justice and then got murdered in our sleep?
Okay, so I understand that some people feel that issuing a warning was heavy-handed. There may be truth to that, and I accept that people are frustrated with my decision. This was a warning which would otherwise not have been followed up on, and as all of those involved are seasoned players, I had every expectation that I would never have to take further action. I apologise that this has dampened some of my players' enjoyment of the game.

To provide some context, throughout the current game players and spectators had voiced frustrations with the two aspects of gameplay which I noted, and I didn't want those things to cause problems in future games. I had been hopeful from the tone of the conversation surrounding the moderation queue that play would pick up in the forum, and as I had put myself forward for the next game I had a personal interest in seeing positive changes before then. I wanted to make clear that I personally found these behaviours unacceptable, but had resolved not to take action in the current game as I felt there wasn't grounds to do so. As noted, I likely could have been clearer about my intentions.

Throughout the current game I've had people telling me that I have been too accommodating, and it was apparent that encouraging people to save their comments for later had not been effective in quelling discussion. From my perspective, it seemed appropriate to douse the discussion entirely rather than wake up the next day to more commentary which had the potential to influence the game. Given the amount of people stating that this was a misstep, I'm willing to accept that.

I'd stated that I wished to take a step back in order to prioritise my exams and several others here don't need the additional stress. As such, if we can all move on from this and continue to enjoy the game, I think that would be for the best.

+1
Last call for a substitute for HSL in the current game, let me know if you're interested.
We haven't had a mafia game for a long time. When's the next one starting.

I want seat #1 this time, please.
