I was thinking to start with the core concept to see how well it translates in a forum medium and go from there.

Count me in for One Night Ultimate Werewolf! Haven't managed to play it in real life yet, but it's been on my wishlist for a while now.

JMich: Considering I've only ran one game, a setup anyone has run will be chosen.
JMich: Could end up being one, but unless the original setup was open, the rerun won't be. The votes should be send through PM, and one of the most popular will be chosen. The observers will be notified of the observers' votes, but the players' votes won't be revealed until end of game.
Now THAT is an interesting wrinkle. JMich: Could end up being one, but unless the original setup was open, the rerun won't be. Also, I'm interested in Dedo's werewolf thing. Might not be able to play, but I'm curious.

dedoporno: Sooo, no new official game until next year?
If that is the case I have a suggestion for the people who feel like not waiting that long regardless of the holidays. Given that I was supposed a host a game but wasn't able to, I'm willing to do so during the holidays with an experiment I talked about some time ago.
One Night Ultimate Werewolf, the forum edition.
For those of you unaware of how the game works - it's more or less the same roles of the normal mafia/werewolf game but instead of the normal game cycle where teams are trying to eliminate each the ON takes a single game Day to resolve. At the end of the Day (or whenever the players decide they are done talking) a vote is cast. Depending on the result of the vote different team/role will win.
That version of the game is usually over in about 10 minutes in RL so it's designed to be quicker and I believe it's possible to translate it to forum as well to fill in the gap until the next game starts.
Would you guys be interested in giving it a try? If needed I can provide some more details on the rules or you can google them yourselves :)

I'm completely unfamiliar with this game. I did a bit of searching, but can't say I get how it can be played as a forum game - that night phase, and role changing has me pretty confused. One Night Ultimate Werewolf, the forum edition.

I'd appreciate it if you shed light on how you envision/plan to run this (number of players, roles, length of Day, etc.), and what rules apply, of course.

I'd appreciate it if you shed light on how you envision/plan to run this (number of players, roles, length of Day, etc.), and what rules apply, of course.
Well, the way the game basically plays is that there is a Night 0 that is usually handled by a mobile app that serves as a narrator/host and giving resolution directions for each role. All players are keeping their eyes closed and are only doing what the app tells them whenever it tells them to. I'd appreciate it if you shed light on how you envision/plan to run this (number of players, roles, length of Day, etc.), and what rules apply, of course.
When the day breaks people do whatever they feel like doing and the game ends with a vote. Depending on the flip different factions/roles will win.
In our version the forum will be the closed eyes and the host will handle the actions resolution.
Since there is a very strict sequence in which each action is resolved the Night phase will take a couple of days to handle but since there won't be any actual discussion needed initially I don't think it should be a problem for anyone. It will only take a drop by every now and then in the designated period to check whether or not your role has been called to act in the main thread and respond with a PM.
Once the night is done and all actions are resolved the real fun begins.
The sweet thing about this version is that players know only their initially dealt roles. After the night phase things may no longer be the same though. Roles may change behind the scenes which stirs the game to whole new level. Everyone will have to do their best to figure out what happened, find out the best possible play for who they think they are work towards it.

HypersomniacLive: Wait wait wait... did you just say that once N0 is over and done, player A may no longer be the role/alignment they were assigned initially, but not know what role/alignment they are now? So, player A may actually be working towards their defeat?
In the physical version, each person is given a card with their role on it. You can perform the power of whatever role you had at the start. Certain roles can swap around cards with other people (i.e. the robber, who takes somebody else's card and gives them his). Come the day, your "official" role is the one you ended with. Let's say for example that in a 3-player game, A is a werewolf, B is a villager, and C is a robber. During the night, C can swap out his own card for A, so that when everyone wakes up, A will still think he's a werewolf when he's really a robber now and on the villager's side, while C will know he's a werewolf and against both of the other players.
There's usually a seer in the game somewhere to potentially balance this out. The seer can either look at two of the center cards or look at another person's card to see what they start off as (before the swapping begins).
Edit: Should probably mention that there's always three extra roles, which are three center cards in the table. The seer viewing these cards helps to suss out what somebody isn't. For example, if the seer sees a troublemaker and a werewolf in the center and A claims to be a troublemaker, the seer will know that's a lie.

Yes, I did :) Yes, they may. If they are not careful. Trust me, it's part of the fun.
I already did. There isn't too much to add. I mean, I will provide more thorough rules, but only if there is enough interest to make it worth the effort.
My job will be mostly to translate the rules to a forum style game, dispense the roles, resolve the actions keeping notes of who does what and what ends up being and from then on it's all up to the players to work things out.

Oh, yes. This is a good addition because it's kind of important. It adds up to the variance and muds up the public domain of information quite a bit.Post edited December 19, 2016 by dedoporno

@dedo - Sounds intriguing, I'm game.
@JMich - It might be good to have a list of options. I don't think some games would recycle well. I could be wrong.

You bloody dedoporno! ;-)
Colour me curious, but whether I play or not depends on when it starts, how long it will run, and if this single Day requires an almost(?) real time presence to interact with others.

The RL game can work even with 3 people actually but from experience I'd say we want at least 7 to have a fun game. We should aim for around 7-10 players.
If I'm not mistaken we actually may already have 7+ people who showed interest so if the GOGfather allows it and JMich is fine with a filler game before he gets his going I will try to prep a rules post tomorrow.
It won't be a single RL day for sure. Depending on the final amount of players I see something not longer than 10-12 RL days which should cover both the Night and Day phases of the game. Maybe shorter, we'll see.

So while I like the theory, I think it should push people towards voting for setups that they think will play well even once the setup itself has been cracked. The first dungeon game, for example, the secret/trick of the setup was part of the balance.
