NotFrenchYet: A newbie pool might be a good way of attracting those people who have always wanted to give it a go, but have felt kind of intimidated before now... It'd also make a safe space where you won't be jumped on for asking otherwise obvious questions all the time (assuming there are a couple of 2+ game people in the pool).
I think you still need an experienced player or two to be able to answer questions and help point out things that would get them jumped. Maybe remove that player's ability to vote? A minor protection since they're an obvious kill target too?
Perhaps a setup populated entirely by newbies, with an added (declared) bulletproof survivor who can advise....

You could go one step further and not actually include them in the list of players. They're just "a guy who isn't playing but is still allowed to post in the thread".

Yeah, but you have to cap how long they can talk, something like a 2 day bulletproof then they attract the NK automatically might work.

Ah yes... a town stump is a cool idea. And a mafia stump? That could be evil. The mafia stump wouldn't be able to post in the thread... only in the scumchat.
By now I really think you're not giving new players enough credit. It's somewhat patronizing to suggest they would need what is essentially a non-player to guide them through everything and hold their hand. Somehow the rest of us managed to become more or less functioning mafia players without it.

Besides, I doubt we're going to completely fill a newbie game with only new players anytime soon, so there's bound to be a couple who has already been in a game or two.

For me, I find it less guiding, and more, answering questions that we can afford to answer. No lynching on day 1 is something that sometimes pops up and having a player rationally explain why this is bad prevents people from going into a game where the experienced players jump them for suggesting it.

I suggested a stump because I don't want an experienced player to become a crutch that the newbies use, the option to kill them off prevents them from getting too involved (granted, you can post restrict them).
Shall we send an official GOG Mafia Community request to the administrators of Mafiascum asking them to accept the verb "To Doc-Block" and it's conjugations as the standard for describing a Jailkeeper's action?

By cool kids you mean mafia #9 players, right?

I need a replacement for Stuart9001.
If anyone is interested, please pm me.

Damn! I'd actually be just about ready to replace in now. Unfortunately, I know too much...

I wasn't talking about hand-holding as such, just patience. E.g., not being snapped at for asking mechanical questions. ;)
