dedoporno: @mchack, not cool, man, not cool :D

Even though there was a possibility for scum to figure you out it wasn't that big to actually go for it and come out. But, oh well...
oh not again! :(

avatar
dedoporno: I would say all roles that were "self-helped" should keep quite about it since there is nothing positive to come from their claim. On one hand (if mchack isn't provided with a limited list) mchack isn't protected from trying to un-restrict a scum by accident which means that he can't confirm anyone's just by targeting them. On another, if mchack's both targets are properly un-restricted and Town they are automatically primary targets for NK since scum know for a fact they can act at night.
I am not provided with a list and I do not get any feedback, as to what role if any I may have unrestricted. But I do know the person I used my day action on.
The beauty of what I propose, is that the acted upon player first needs to say that he was unrestricted, meaning that if I hit scum and they don't have a restricted role in the first place, they won't even know something was done to them. So if someone claims I have helped them, I can then confirm (or deny) if that was really the one I used my action on and by that we have confirmed each other. Don't know to say it any clearer than that.
So a question for all Is a confirmed townie useless (think of lylo or how said person won't have to fight off a lynch etc.)? or is there some flaw in my thinking?
As for the primary target for nightkill, the beauty of it is that scum can't go for everyone at once. There's a protection in numbers. So while they'll probably go for me tonight there's still the two people I could confirm + trentonlf + hijack out there that they could go for. (Chance to be hit for one of those is 1 in 5) They can't get all at once and while they go for me, the roles can work their night magic undisturbed and if they go for one of the roles, I can unrestrict another one in the morning...
The only reason I claimed was for that confirming to be possible, but I won't say anything lest that person says something first. But it's only possible today, unless by some miracle I survive the night, which I highly doubt. So it's in those two persons hands what you wanna do with this chance I'm giving you. Else you'll just get my flip, same as you'd most probably have gotten if I had just kept silent.
Everyone is waiting for someone else to do something. Good thing we have a deadline in 35 hours - maybe something will happen tomorrow.

At the risk of offering another wildly unpopular opinion, here’s how I see things:

There are 14 players left in the game. We have a fairly decent block of players that I, at least, will not vote for. With one Scum already nailed, we can actually systematically lynch our way through the remaining names in nearly any order and win. Yes, it’s the same thing from game #25 that everyone couldn’t stand. All we need to do is come to some loose consensus on a ranking of general scumminess and start there.

Yes, I realize that does suck some of the fun out of it. Yes, I realize Scum themselves will find this a horrifying prospect. Yes, I realize some of you might call me Scum because of it. I only bring this up because momentum seems to have stalled out and died anyway. There is still plenty of fun left to be had, but we do need to pick up again and start playing, and get over our collective fear of voting. Town – we got this, OK? Don’t be terrified of a mis-lynch or two. It’s Forum Mafia. It happens. We can still win. Let’s just do this thing, OK?

I will not be voting for:
mchack
HijacK
dedoporno

I also sort these people into a “highly likely to be Town” pile:
trentonlf
Lifthrasil

These folks aren’t necessarily locked-in-Town, but for playability purposes I’d rather not start with:
HSL
adaliabooks

Which leaves:
flubbucket
Kryspyn
JMich
Sage
cristigale
BlueMooner

It’s almost unlosable. We did such great work on Day 1 to get ourselves sorted out that we can just hack our way through the remaining list.

But yeah, I know, I know. No fun, right? Anyway. I guess I’m open to other suggestions.

Krypsyn: Given the number of power roles (restricted, or otherwise) I think it is quite possible that we have more than 3 scum left, though they may not all be Mafia.
I believe no one has said there aren't more than 3. Anyway, discussing scum numbers at this point doesn't see like the most useful activity give than we have about 24 or something hours until the deadline.

One of the things that worry me right now is that it seems Trent's role is inconsistent with the rest that we have lying around. I wonder why. Having a backup un-restrictor hints that there are many blocked roles and we are still pretty safe from losing because of dumb luck. In addition, the un-restrictor is a day actor which means there will be at least 2 potential attempts of role activation (I say attempts since there is no guarantee the guru won't target non-Town players). Even if both of them died during the first 2 days they still had the chance to act.

So why isn't Trent restricted? Or is the "twist" his restriction?

It seems from CSPVG's flip that mafiosos don't have such modifiers so it's probably pretty safe to assume that if one was visited by a guru they won't get more powerful in the process.

@Yog, are you willing to share the nature of your restriction regardless of whether or not it has been already removed? Is it in any way similar to Trent's "twist"?

Anyway, deadline is creeping up on us again and it should be in around 24 or so hours. We have a single wagon started and a few people that aren't as available as I would like them to be.

@JMich, what's your take on all that is happening?

I'm sorry. I got additional workload this week and don't have the time to read through the thread. Do you think you can handle this Day without me? I'll check in from time to time and after Monday next week it will get better. If you want me to claim (after Krypsyn claimed and preferably flubbucket too, if you can convince him), just reply to this message, so that I see that there is action to take.

But if you prefer to play the game without an additional involuntary lurker this week, I'll ask RW for a replacement. That would be OK for me too.

dedoporno: Having a backup un-restrictor hints that there are many blocked roles...
That is one way to interpret it; yes.

-------------

Yikes, almost posted this before waiting for my other post to time out. Which reminds me... someone mentioned (I think mchack?) that it would be interesting to see what my post restriction would be. I actually sent a PM to RWarehall guessing what mine would be after he said it was 'cruel'. I was right, and it was pretty obvious. They may have changed it now though, since I haven't really been posting many You-Tube links since (I was a little bored of it, and it seems it bothered some people).

mchack: As for the primary target for nightkill, the beauty of it is that scum can't go for everyone at once. There's a protection in numbers.
The thing is they don't need to kill the un-restrictor. Just the unrestricted roles. The un-restrictor can be spared for the entire game if they just go and clean up after him. They are just one role behind in the best case scenario. The kicker is that Yog is certain there is a role-blocker. If that is true the head start is negated entirely. Block Yog just in case he is self-helped and kill the other confirmed role. This can go on forever.

I think it's best I don't. I do say I believe trent's twist is as he describes. He could still be Scum, but I find it unlikely.

It's complicated, isn't it?

Just out of curiosity, why is JMich on this list? Surely if anyone should be confirmed town to you after Day 1 he should? Or is this just your never ending feud with him?

There are huge holes in this argument... how do you know your role doesn't leave a calling card even if you don't unrestrict them? You could have used it on scum and all they need to do is reveal that fact and suddenly we're all to believe they are town?

This is a very good point. If the unrestricted roles claim then scum don't even need to kill mchack or HijacK, they just need to keep killing the claimed townies so we don't get the benefit of their roles.
@mchack - This is a question to post 946... Are you sure that if you unrestrict a player who does not have a restriction, that said player won't know you visited them?

ok, that makes sense if all the that are unrestricted claim that they are. Insofar I understand the reluctance of anyone to claim they've been healed. If those role bearers don't claim to be unrestricted, scum still has to guess which roles were unrestricted and who to kill and where to send their roleblocker if indeed they have one. But that would leave me (and later hijack) to unrestrict one role after another and day one gives quite good clues as to who might have a restricted role thanks to yogs.
So if there's no need for players to be confirmed, I guess that's the way to go and my claim was utterly useless :/
But don't come crying when wifom hit's those players and they need a way to proove that they are town, because I'll be long dead by then.:P
Also it can't go on forever, as yogs pointed out if we aren't dumb enough to no-lynch or only lynch towny players we'll get scum anyway before all townies are dead.

avatar
Krypsyn: And what if they don't claim you have helped them? What is your conclusion then?
Then my conclusion is that either they don't want to draw scum's attention to them, or they didn't have a restricted role in the first place.

avatar
Krypsyn: As for the recent revelation by mchack, I need to think on, as prior to his claim he was near the top of my scum-list. I may require a paradigm shift... which sounds tiring.
Funny you're the at the top of my scum-list and you haven't really said anything yet, that makes me wanna reassess that. Btw, feeling any pressure yet?

lol, probably yes. There's my Town Tourette's again. Sometimes I just JMICH SCUM can't seem to stop barking odd JMICH SCUM things here and there.

I should be more charitable. Let's take JMich's name off the bottom list.

If I do ever host a game Town Tourettes is so going to be a role... XD

cristigale: @mchack - This is a question to post 946... Are you sure that if you unrestrict a player who does not have a restriction, that said player won't know you visited them?
I am not sure of that, I'll ask rwarehall but, I don't know if he'll answer such a question.
But I am rather sure there isn't, since not applicable night actions usually also don't give a feedback to the target... like when you want to investigate a commuter he won't know he's been targeted, right?
Apologies for not posting. Losing the job was a real downer, don't know what I'm going to do for money. I've always had problems finding work, so it's been on my mind a lot. Some people have trouble taking tests, I have trouble getting jobs. But of course, that's my concern, I'll just have to figure something out.

I skimmed the posts, not really into reading between the lines right now. It seems more people have claimed. I don't understand people refusing to claim then claiming so quickly. "No Blue, I don't have a role", "Hey guys, I have a role!" -Agent. "No guys, we shouldn't claim", "Hey guys, I'm gonna claim." -Trent.

I think Yog and Jack are town, as well as porno and mich. I want to ask Jack about some things he said on day 1, but I'm not able right now to write that thoughtful post. Since C was lynched for being lurky, I was going to suggest going after Sage or Cristi for lurking, but I think I now hold title to lurkiest, so I won't be suggesting that. : )

Not clear on why Flub is being confrontational. Are players carrying grudges between games? This really isn't the GOG I remember from years ago.

Initially, reading about mass claim I was opposed to it, as I think it would suck the fun out of the game, but now I'm kind of emotionally dead, stressing over rent and bills. FWIW I'm against it, but perhaps everybody's already claimed and I missed it.

Again, I apologize for not being more active this game day. I had already planned to post less, but not this little. Being sick, and fired, and then my roommie telling me I need to hurry up and get something new.... well, I'm not all here right now. Hopefully things will be better by day 3.
