If he wants to take the first step in fixing the forums, the start is to solve the scammer alt problem. Since most of the unjustified downrepping is by the scammers and they are also responsible for making this a bad place to gift or trade.

A lot of the discontent is because people have been allowed to get downrepped to the max every day for more than a year if not years. Fix that then you can start looking at the other griefers and the other problems with the rep system.

But the strong likelihood that Tauto (Gunsyn's old account) is likely under the control of one of these scammers, makes this one-stop shopping. [One can tell by the way he uses smiley faces] The trick is how they are going to stop this griefer and his alts.

If they can't fix that, there is no point dealing with anything else.

Rep may be meaningless, but that doesn't mean a lot of people don't quit these forums as a result...

Wow, this went down fast. Can't say I was expecting much more, but waking up to this... now I have to go and read what happened since my last post.

You are aware that the job of the community manager is not to fix the forum but to communicate with the GOG users, right? To be the one to tell the users what (if anything) is happening, and to tell GOG what (if anything) the users are asking for. And so far, fables has done the communication, since they did notify the users about how to redeem their GOG Connect title that wouldn't be recognized.

Personally, I stand as it being a terrible shame that the thread got deleted. It was pure comedy gold, I stood in front of it for a while and read it at least twice until I realize that yes, that was indeed what I had read. Those kinds of threads should be archived, not summarily deleted like it now happens. Fuck that kind of moderation.

I understand your point, but at the same time, I do empathise with snowkatt's view that there is a distinct feeling that it's going to be a case of same shit, different day with a lot of unfulfilled promises. At the end of the day, GOG wants to keep people on these forums, and if one of its selling points is that racists, misogynists and other assorted political extremists can spew their bullshit with impunity here, then they're unlikely to take action that will reduce that potential consumer base. At the end of the day, a Nazi's money doesn't smell any worse than anyone else's.

Of course, we know that the GOG forums now have a pretty widespread reputation for being almost 4chan-level toxic, and we know that it's preventing people from visiting the site more often - I've experienced it from friends and acquaintances, so has Ian by the sounds of it. But I fear that until GOG notices through its sales that the reputation of its community management is basically ruined, it'll already be too late.

Nobody's expecting a safe space, but if using my free time to log on here means having to sift through endless amounts of shit about how "Muslims are fascists", "feminists are all Nazis" and "the tears of liberals are delicious", then I'm sorry, but in that case I'd say fuck GOG, because I want to enjoy my limited free time instead of having to lower myself to the intellectual depths of what has since become the majority of this community.
