Vainamoinen: Yeah, he did that. And it's not OK. And the clarifying post was even worse, big groan. I would still argue to take him off your shitlist again for the time being. To fully understand what happened in the States last week needs a whole damn lot of insight into the divided country. Not everyone has that. I have good friends in the US, I have family right down in the crimson states, and I can't say I fully understand it. Can we approach the prejudice without immediately ostracizing its distributor?

Agree it's a good idea to get a community manager to pick up and compile customer concerns, broach some subjects about what sort of interaction we would like to see, what type of services we want, how to shape Goglaxy, discuss drawbacks and advantages with new products, that sort of thing.

I could probably add that the instant that mod would start to treat their position as a marketing manager, the effect would be counterproductive.

Outside of that - no moderation is always better than passable, or ok, moderation. Literally no matter how big the community is. I.e., moderators are successful if they don't need to work. Like firemen and policemen. You're not successful if you need to beat a mob down with clubs and put out a fire in the town hall every day, even though you certainly are doing an absolutely sterling show of it.

I extra separated the two as they do tend to go with each other BUT are not the same.

regals, Tauto they are clearly only in one group.

And then we have our other posters, some are containing it in specific threads others spreading it more open.

And inside those threads, hell sometimes brakes loose.

So I think the main question which we are arguing about is WHEN and WHO shall be able to report it.

Vainamoinen gave some nice examples as well as others.

Hidden/public: Why public? You ALL do remember that you did agree to the EULA, do you? And any breach of it, as per the EULA, you revoked the right. So why shall GOG do allow a discussion about it? You breached it first and now you still expect to be heard public or eve discuss it public?
Public: I can see it as a way to handle borderline cases, but the REAL problem there is that OTHERS will try to use it in their cases, like Why do I A get banned for X amount, B was only banned for Y amount and so on.

So IMHO not public, maybe a public statement from the mod.

As long as it doesn't involve threats, violence or force/forcing, everybody should be heard out, no distinctions. Another funny thing is how always, people against distinctions are the only ones and the first ones, to ever demand restrictions be instigated ANYWHERE, usually by force, too...

I mean, on some other thread someone incited the murder of the President Elect of the USA for fucks sake. How bad does it have to get before GOG starts doing something ? At the very least GOG should deal with the criminal elements in the community, no ?

See? I never asked for tinyE to be moderated! I am not a pretender who can't take criticism, unlike "some" people... He can call me everything he wants! Only a looser would loose their marbles over three words! TinyE's freedom of speech, anyone else's freedom of speech... SHOULD BE RESPECTED!

But when dictatorships are absent, people somehow always find a way to instigate one... Then cry about "more freedoms", right...?

Because I remember my childhood in "socialist" Czechoslovakia. I would rather take the risk of free speech - however nasty - than risk of omnipresent autocensorship. On the other hand, there are much worse things than closed forum, so set the rules however you want; I am too biased to have valid opinion about moderation rules.

It would be foolish of me to say that we are now making the forum our priority, because everyone knows that's not and never will be the case. But I think making resources available to at least have someone (sorry you're stuck with me! :)) try and re-ignite the discussion between GOG and the community is a good step forward by GOG. To put this bluntly, if they really did not care, I wouldn't be here either. So all we can do now is try and make the most of it.

So, selling games is always the priority. The community doesn't constitute a necessary part of the selling aspect, but it does sit well with what the ethics behind GOG is.
We may not constitute a necessary part of the selling aspect, but we sure as hell can help sell more copies. I was buying multiple copies of games for regular giveaways, which you have lost for now, because you have ignored the forum for years. My impression from speaking to people outside of the community is that this forum is toxic, which is why they don't use gog. Oh and from my previous post, you have lost many sales from my very generous friends who have sadly left for good.

I will continue to support GOG, but now is the time for me to ask a direct question - are you actually going to do anything, or are you just going to place a few random posts ? (if it is the latter - please be advised, this comes across to me as totally patronising.)

ToxicTom post? I'm in favor of a paywall, people don't like restrictions but you can't expect order when there's people that abuse the freedom that was given but i'm guessing you want me to discuss his suggestion.

Well, first problem is that people that have been abusing that system already have a bunch of accounts to do so therefore the restriction for new accounts wouldn't work, second, the rep system is dumb, people can't voice their opinion otherwise they're downvoted, what's the point of having "freedom"? Besides, people are more bound to upvote their forum "sweethearts" than everyone equally (not counting giveaways, obviously) so what's the point?

About the names of who downvoted, that wouldn't go well with everyone because "mah privacy/freedom" not to say that you would see a bunch of accounts that you never heard of.

Just remove the rep system, if you're against something that was then VOICE about it instead of being a lazy coward hidding behind a - symbol.
