Is seems devs don't learn the mistakes of games like DarkSpore, another game that was killed (thanks EA....).

"Ubisoft's excellent-looking medieval game For Honor is an always-online experience, and can't be played offline--gamers have to stay online in order to play all modes, including the solo singleplayer campaign."
What a shame, I was genuinely considering buying it. I guess I'll wait for the inevitable free weekend before I even look at it again, although considering my internet speed and how bloated download sizes are nowadays it might just take me a full weekend to even download the game.

Looking on the brightside though, Nioh, For Honor and Nier: Automata are all hack n' slash action games coming out just two weeks apart from each other and I was never going to buy all three. The choice was just made easier for me.
Well that sucks. Game looked interesting.
I would never have guessed it even had any single-player content, and looking at the "different" game modes on the game's website it definitely looks to be more or less a multiplayer game. The single-player stuff is just an add-on I feel, as with Titanfall and similar.

I share your sentiments though, it's a bad trend, these alway-online campaigns and 'seamless multplayer' stuff.

Did you get a chance to try the Nioh demo ? I played some of it. I reminded me of Ninja Gaiden combined with Bloodborne. The Japanese theme is cool and interesting. It was quite difficult though, I could not beat that Ogress lady.

Nier: Automata is on my own list as well, I thought the first game was very unique and this looks even more so.

I watched some of the beta on Twitch and was yawning after 10 minutes. It certainly has a great presentation but I thought the gameplay/combat would be a little more complex.

And the online only bullshit zeros out any remaning interest I had.

I did. The Ogress must have taken me a dozen tries to beat the first time. Afterward you unlock the "twilight" version of the level, with new monsters, higher level enemies and better loot.

I replayed the regular level to get closer to the necessary level for the twilight version and know what? She only hit me once. It was almost a perfect round. The twilight version I fought of her later wasn't much more difficult either, must have taken just two or three tries to beat.

Seems like the type of game that enemies wreck you over and over again the first time, then you fight them again later and you wonder how they ever gave you trouble in the first place.

As for Nier: Automata, I didn't get around to trying that demo. It's not an insta-buy for me, Platinum's last few games haven't been that great. Then again there's rumors that resources from those games were diverted towards making this one, so maybe it will be a return to form for them. Either way, I'll read some reviews before taking the plunge, but I'm at least a little hopeful.

ON TOPIC EDIT: I hear the game is going to be p2p, which would make connections a lot more unstable. That doesn't sound so great for a game so focused on multiplayer. I for one am not sure my internet connection would be quite up for the task.

I always figured this game was an MMO, so I thought online-only was a given... not that it makes it any better. Why would Ubi waste time on single-player content if you can't even play offline in the first place? They'll probably end up giving away for free after 2 years, just like The Crew... Speaking of, they are probably going to push Microtransactions hard on this game as well. Ohhhhh, Ubisoft, you really make it hard for people to like you.

and who will buy this game for the 4 hours long singleplayer campaign?
i guess nobody
Not surprised. The main baddie of the next Watch_Dogs should be UPlay. They're building up the character already.

Offtopic, but does every new online game need to have this hero-choosing system instead of you making your own character and selecting your gear? I hate it, why invest in VA and modelling for an MP game and waste more budget money like that? Also, what's so wrong with creating your own characters? Seems CoD and BF are finally keeping a good tradition going for once, instead of going the character route.
