And honestly I'm not interested to be a beta-tester for food products...

Last week or the week before Dolmio (not sure if you get them in the US or elsewhere, but they make Italian pasta sauces) started putting warnings on some of their sauces saying you should only eat them once a week (because they are so full of fat, salt and sugar).
They assumed this would be a positive PR thing as they're trying to help people eat better etc.
But instead everyone just said, "If they're so bad why aren't you making them healthier instead of just warning people about it?"
But yeah, food labelling is nuts. The serving / portion thing I think is the worst. Label on the front of the packet says there's only 100 calories, but when you look closer it says that's for 1 serving which is half a packet. They do this on 500ml bottles of drinks, who the hell buys a bottle of coke and thinks "I'm drinking half of this now and half tomorrow"?
And there are a lot of other stupid portion sizes (I think a single Tic Tac is a portion, so they can say it's sugar free even though it's about 90% sugar because the actual weight of sugar is less than what is allowed in sugar free products...)

That I agree completely. I will never understand, why in their sane minds, people build 4 super-mega-markets with tons of additional shops, in a small town of 3000 people and all those supermarkets are one nearby another. Shelves are bursting with products, that get not bought at the end of the day and some have to be removed because of short expiring date. There is absolutely no profit to be made!
All in all, the bad labeling (getting back to main topic) in my opinion is just one of the ways for companies to save more money from production rather than making an honest product and selling a bit more expensive. The real problem in the world is the lack of money movement.
It's like... Image a group of 3 people:
- OP: has 1$ in the pocket and can grow bananas.
- me: have no money and can grow melons.
- Zeogold: has no money and can grow carrots.
Lack of money flow scenario:
- OP wants to buy a melon from me.
- I grow a melon. I sell melon, get 1$.
- Zeogold wants to sell me a few carrots, he grows carrots.
- I choose to put my dollar in a jar and buy nothing from anyone, because I am happy with my melons.
What happens?
- Zeogold has to live with his carrots
- OP has to live with his/her bananas
- Little to no point at all in us communicating, growing more stuff and so on.
Money flow scenario:
- OP wants to buy a melon from me. I grow melon, sell it. I get 1$.
- I choose/want to buy a banana and a carrot. OP and Zeogold grow them, each get 0.50$. I have melon, carrot and banana, they have their plants and some money.
- Now Zeogold can buy a banana and OP can buy a carrot. Or they can both co-operate, buy one melon from me and split it in half.
What turns out:
- Money is moving
- We all are motivated to grow our stuff
- We are all happy and not hungry
Lack of money flow is the problem!! Companies are stacking their money in jars!!
Solution: we have to steal their money and get the economy flowing.

i am new here so don't really know what the beef between zeogold and tort is but from an unbiased perspective tort is absolutely right.
Guys that work in Human resources have way too much friggin corporate power. So naturally, women will kiss their ass inside out. Majority of cheating happens in the workplace afterall. It can make any guy cynical and jaded as time goes on.
As for the so called joke by zeogold, it reeks of jealousy and seems more like a projection of zeogold's own insecurities and feelings.
No wonder he is on gog forum all the time doing some stupid steam giveaway. No life in real life.

Okay. Some hints to make your eating life easier...
1) Sauces and dressings are extras and most of the time contain either salt, or sugar, maybe both. A restricted diet doesn't need that stuff; stuff which is mostly to make food more pleasing to the taste, or in professional kitchens, to hide early stages of food rot and "deceive" the customer that it is being fresh.
2) Most diet helpers recommend eggs as a protein source and basic muscle enhancers. Meat accumulates in your body nasty stuff (like dioxins) which pile up after years and leads to serious health issues, some of them related to heart, that can even kill you off young. Meat is rich in protein, but you should avoid "red" meat, preferring "white" one, instead, without concentrated fat, as much as possible. Examples from the healthier to the less healthy, are: Wild rabbit, turkey, tame rabbit, chicken, fish, etc. Wild rabbit is technically considered red meat, but it is somehow the healthiest of the bunch, as per experts' advice and research. Beans are an excellent protein source, too, but as with all non-animal food human consumes, it is being digested at a slower pace and yields less nutrients total, even if it is rich in them. Fungi are rich in protein too, plus carbohydrates, an essential nutrient for you which is partly responsible for replenishing fatigue and at the same time, with zero fat. You should give those a go, too, but certainly not the canned ones, only fresh.
3) You should avoid everything preserved through the DEEP FREEZE method. The most unhealthy food stuff ever. Also, chill helps in decomposing the essential nutrients of the food and making it poor source of nourishment, besides it loosing part of its flavor, smell, etc. You should also avoid everything cooked/prepared through the FRYING method, especially DEEP FRY, because the oil is being reused multiple times and the frying procedure results into chemical alterations between oil and food; ones that create unhealthy fats and other bad stuff, which accumulates insider your body over the years too, causing possibly (serious) health problems later.
4) Prefer your vegetables and fruit raw and fresh (whenever possible) and eat those, because vitamins are the key to good health, exercising and body functions; by eating them raw when you can, you make sure that cooking/thermal alterations caused on them, don't destroy or make poorer, their precious nutrients. Vegetables especially, since human's peptic system cannot absorb and dismantle their nutrients, as effectively as certain other animals' systems are designed by nature to.
5) Don't you ever take those bars (protein especially), or any athlete medicine. You need both "enhancers" and diet additives, this is true, but chemically processed, mass-produced, industry-peddled, potentially harmful to your body and health garbage like that, is not your best choice. You can go for fresh royal jelly, from a legit bee owner, not the frozen "relics" that drug stores sell, this is the perfect enhancement for your regular workout. Stuff almost works miracles (ever since i used it, i almost became a "teen" again!). And the best diet supplement is FRESH BEE POLLEN (again not the frozen "relics" that drug stores sell), being rich in vitamins, calcium, PROTEIN and useful acids; it can even replace sweets for your diet, is very tasty, especially when combined with honey and it can even lead to restoring spent energy after a hard workout. Honey with dried nuts in it is also a perfect diet supplement and it even has the effects of Viagra... Use the drug store of nature, if and when possible, not the industry's poisons, bro.
6) Before weight-lifting, make sure to do the full set of muscle stretches and joint rotation techniques. But i bet your trainer already drilled you hard on them basics!

Couldn't be arsed reading every post so this may have been mentioned but........
It's not something exclusive to the US....... Every bloody country does it!
Walked round a local supermarket with a diet and nutrition specialist as part of a group just today in fact. She pointed out all the lies on packaging right here in NZ. Almost all packaging is full of false claims and the manufacturers will always get away with it.
If someone tells you it doesn't happen in their country then they need to get their head out of the clouds and take a big dose of reality :D
Clean Green New Zealand is a slogan that gets tossed around by plenty of kiwis (NZ'ers) and many boast about our 'high standards' compared with other countries because they believe the lies pushed on us by the media.
People talk about propaganda in wartimes when in fact it happens every bloody day.
The media push their agendas and the sheep follow.....
Anyway, rant done :D
Don't think it's an American problem because it isn't. It's worldwide....

Man, don't get me started on the dietary supplement industry, that's a whole different can of worms :) I'd need to start another thread.
(Going off topic slightly...) That being said, provided that:
1- You don't have any specific health problems (diabetes, heart/kidney/liver issues etc.)
2- Your aim is to lose fat, or build muscle
3- You protein intake is optimal
4- You are *consistently* staying below your calorie upper limit, whether cutting or bulking
... I don't see too much problem with eating "dirty". Junk food is fun (and not even a blimp on the radar) in moderation, and keeping it fun is a big help in maintaining an effective diet, whatever your goals are.
Not to brag, but I've maintained ~6% body fat with no immune system issues, and no other health problems as confirmed by regular check ups, for years. And that I achieved with ice cream and whiskey being staples in my diet!
Compare that to the average American who jogs every morning at 5am to burn 300 calories, and then washes it down with a 800 calorie fruit smoothie for recovery, "because it's healthy". Good job bro, you just wasted two hours and put on some fat on top of that.
Of course, your point on artificial stuff stands. Like I said, moderation is key, also are the four conditions above.
I'm surprised we don't have a weightlifting thread here :) Or do we? A forum is never complete without ab shots.
