Trooper1270: As a piece of tubular shaped silicone rubber (with a closed end), they are usually used for games in the bedroom, either on one's own or with a partner. Glowing versions are apparently available, so can be played with in the dark, if need be...
Yes, but are those featured in any video games? Not those other kind of games.
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare has a flashlight.
DooM 3 has a flashlight, but not in the BFG edition tough

Sachys: You mean a torch?
A flashlight is something more specialised - not recognised by american english nor dictionary definitions.
avatar
eric5h5: No, not a torch. A torch is a piece of wood with burning stuff on one end (not the end you're holding, hopefully). Flashlight is absolutely recognized by American English, and dictionaries, and is the correct word. "A battery-operated portable light", is specifically what the definition says. This is to helpfully distinguish said light from a flaming bit of wood. Because obviously nobody would be silly enough to use the same word to mean two very different things.
Next you'll be trying to tell me that Football is a game that is suspiciously similar to rugby but with a ridiculous amount of padding. American English isn't always used in precedence to the original language.

Both are legitimate uses of the word torch.

Keith_I2: Is there a game, or what game has a sort of a flashlight to better see in a dark room at night?
Literally dozens of them...

eric5h5: Yes, but are those featured in any video games?
I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes", but I'm not that eager to know, in all honesty.

For what it's worth, it's called "torcia elettrica" in Italian (but also "pila").

OK, so some people here seem to be severely irony-impaired. Since apparently I have to actually spell it out, I'm aware that British English uses "torch" that way; I was bagging on this claim: "You mean a torch? A flashlight is something more specialised - not recognised by american english nor dictionary definitions." (BTW, "Bagging on" is an American English phrase...if you're not familiar with it, look it up, it's in the dictionary along with "flashlight".)

I actually have no idea. But in my defence, the OP never actually stated video games... ;)

Edit: As for the word 'bagging on', I'm pretty sure you were not referring to its apparent use for solvent abuse ?, but, more than likely 'to pester, criticise or otherwise bother someone about something in particular' ?...

What a strangely un-self-aware response. Re-read my response in the same light... In the same torchlight if you like...

Then have a nice evening and remember that "irony" and "sarcasm" don't always work unless you're face-to-face with someone.

eric5h5:
Somebody got it all backwards - a flashlight in English is something you signal with - which you would know if it was recognised by the American English dialect.

Now, while I'm here and still in a good, silly mood (as was originally intended) - heres some relevant music!
