Swedrami: Technically not a first world war game, for being set in an alternate reality post 1920 and featuring a lot of Dieselpunk elements like mechs, walking tanks or armored suits, but if you don't mind that then Iron Harvest might be something to keep an eye on.

Arundir: That looks a lot like the inspiration for Iron Harvest came from the boardgame Scythe:

Scythe

As for WW1 games, there are some on the Matrix Games store:

I personally have my eyes on the boxed version of "To End All Wars", but read mixed reviews from praising the game to saying AGEOD is overloaded and does meet the needs for such a game.

Then there is Pride of Nations which mainly takes place in the colonial period before WW1, but the timeline of the game ends at 1920.

Pride of Nations

Victoria II is also set in the colonial era before WW1, but reaches into it and there is a World War 1 mod:

Victoria II
To End All Wars is a good WW1 game. But yeah, there are some proper complaints. AI is decent, but turns are SLLLOOOWWWW with AI script compiling. Plus with all that's going on in the game, campaigns can take forever to finish. Still, it's not a bad game at all. One of the better (ie less broken) AGEOD games. Like with most other TBS games, you have to have a lot of patience and lots of free time.
Ohhhhh, you mean the Great War? I read it as First-world war-games.
Wow! So many games! And the boardgames section looks quite scary! (And I do enjoy heavy boardgames!)

And they don't even seem to disguise it -- nor should they: Scythe had great, amazing art and an inspiring environment.

I will be keeping an eye on this one for sure!
Too bad Pride of Nations is not on GOG.

surfer1260: I think that a game like World War 1 Centennial Edition offers a better immersion into the situation of 14/18. However, it has DRM(...)
Oh, so close! Does anyone know if Matrixgames employ DRM? Revolution under Siege also looks neat!
Thank you for calling these games to my attention. Matrixgames seems to have many games of this type.

That was funny. Many times I wished language had parenthesis that work like in mathematics, to clarify associations.

Send me a pm when you have some minutes, we can make this work if you want the games Revolution under Siege and Pride of Nations or World War One Gold. Christmas is near anyway.

As far as I know, you only need a registration key and the download link to install and play the game. There are no other DRM measures.

Edit: Nevermind. It is not that easy as downloads for those games are split in the installer with a specific version and one higher version update file, meaning you would only the get the installer with the download link, but not the update. So you do not get around creating an account.
