universus: 1- fully polygonal true 3d
2- features a 3d animated person as a protagonist.. not a spacecraft or a plane.. so I want to find the ancient equivalent of uncharted which is a real 3d third "person" shooter.. third-chopper-shooters or third-plane-shooters don't count.. Sorry that my first post wasn't this clear.. but I am interested in determining the first uncharted type 3d game..
3- the game should have a behind the person (or over the shoulder) camera while shooting..
Gremmi: I, Robot, from 1983.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I,_Robot_%28video_game%29 Now that's an interesting one.. it's not really an uncharted type gameplay but it is 1983-1984 so it's a game ahead of it's time.. it could probably be considered a TPS..
I don't know why but it is not listed here:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third-person_shooter is it because it's a forward scrolling shoot'em up? I think it is more of a TPS than many games listed on that wikipedia article..
Now if we are going to write a history of "3d", third "person" shooters with " over the shoulder camera and uncharted type gameplay, does it go like this:
1- I robot - 1983 (not really the type of shooter that I am looking for, but very much ahead of it's time and deserves consideration)
2- Fade to Black - 1995 (controlled pretty bad by today's standards.. modern gamers would throw their controllers out the window but it's definitely an example of a modern style TPS)
3- Tomb Raider - 1996 (no 3d game before this looked and controlled as TR did in my opinion.. best 3d character animations to date)
Is this the definitive list or is there any objection to I robot being classified as the earliest example of modern style TPS?
