Fenixp: Eldritch would deserve about two times the amount content it actually got (not in terms of environments, in terms of enemies and items) - it's a lot of fun for a few playtroughs tho.

IronArcturus: Yeah, I wish it had more enemies in it too. I wonder if they had to lower down that amount since everything is randomized.
the only complaint there is for this genre in general is that it can end up feeling a bit empty and spare, as yes - you can not really have any scripted events.
There's Bloodcrusher II, a FPS with procedurally generated levels and perma-death. It's in development, and there hasn't been much activity on their website as of late.

Last update 1 month ago. That's not to long in indie land. Added, and thanks. Will follow.
ZIggurat have received a steady drop of updates, and have more content now. It is starting to reach a point where it can be recommended.

PhilD: Ooh cool, I didn't know about this game. I luvs me some H.P. Lovecraft!
and it's on sale at the Humble Store for $4.99 right now (for 1 more day.)
I think i'll pick it up. Thanks for the heads up! :)

Wow, Minecraft rip-off much? That engine looks way too familiar to be a coincidence.

Not at all, it plays completely differently. The block graphics are in place to simplify random generation. You can destroy walls using dynamite (and pickaxe in one environment), but that's about it really - other than that it plays as a cross between Dishonored and ... ... ... I don't know, a horror game with stealth, there's tons!

I was pointing out the engine in particular. The blocky graphical style, the graphics for certain things like doors... everything looks like it was ripped from Minecraft, to the point that if someone told me that this was a commercial release of a Minecraft Adventure map, I might believe them.

You know, there are only so many ways in which you can portray a door in such a way that it still looks like a door in pixelated graphic style. If anything, both Eldritch and Minecraft understood that if you use blocky graphics, you should really adjust the rest of the game's visual style to be consistent with that, thus the similarities.

Completely different engines.... Minecraft is a voxel game coded in Java, I am not sure what engine Eldritch run on, but it is definitely not Java. Not even sure if Eldritch's engine is voxel based.

I *think* it's a Unity game but don't hold me to that :)

hmm.... don't all Unity games start with that option window? Eldritch do not, and I found no mention of Unity in the credits.

edit: apparently, it is a propitiatory engine build from scratch -

That's why I said "I *think*..." as I wasn't 100% sure :) Thanks for the heads up, though :)

I'm not sure what game engine Eldritch uses, but it's one of my favorite games! Will Eldritch ever make it to GOG?
