From a business standpoint this is great. I thought FFX was pretty good although the characters could be annoying at times. I did not even bother to play FFX-2 because how much it got tainted.

I would definitely like to see Square release Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy Tactics on Steam and (not going to happen but would be nice if it did) GOG.

Sarisio: I thought so too until I discovered PSP, it has some quite really nice JRPGs. Most of good JRPGs are being released for handhelds nowadays.
I own a PSP, but from what I've seen most of the nice RPGs there are remakes (Valkyrie Profile, FF Tactics, the first 3 Breath of Fire, etc...) or are never released in Europe.
Not that I have anything against remakes, but they're much less interesting when you've already played the originals like me.

Beside that, there is quite a number of PSP "non-remake" games: Jeanne d'Arc, Class of Heroes 1/2, Elminage (5 games in total), Spectral Souls, Blazing Souls Accelate, Ragnarok Tactics, Brave Story, Unchained Blades, Phantasy Star Portable 1/2, Lord of Arcana, etc. I didn't count remakes, because personally I like to play originals.

Sorry to break it to you, but one of those games, Elminage Original, is actually a remake of a PlayStation 2 game. Therefore, if you aren't counting remakes, you can't count that game.

Yeah, and looking at the Amazon.fr page, most of those belong to the "never released in Europe" category. Back in my PSX days, I didn't mind jailbreaking a console and importing games, but now I don't really have the time or interest to do so. I already have more games to play than time to play them just on PC, so if Japanese devs don't want my money, I'm not going to go out of my way to force it on them.

As well as Spectral Souls and Blazing Souls. But they were never released on PS2 outside Japan, neither localized (not even a fan translation). So I treat them as if they never existed on PS2 altogether.

Situation might be different now with PS Vita and digital downloads, though I am not totally sure about that.

Then again, the game I'm playing now, Wizardry Summoner (GBA), has not had any released translation (they actually were planning to release the game in the west, to the point where Nintendo Power published an article about the game with spell lists), nor has the PS2 remake of said game. Yet, I am still playing it.

Originally I played Phantasy Star II on Japanese without any clue on how to even read katakana. I managed to beat half of the game (upto Neifirst) and then I finally found English cartridge (and successfully finished it). Personally I can no longer repeat such a heroic deed, as you know PS II wasn't exactly on the easier side of the games. So I treat Japan exclusives as if they don't even exist so to not get upset too much.

Are the ports any good? FF13 and 13-2 suffered from some low fps when you turned your camera. Does this game perform any better? (specially on AMD cards)

mystral: I hated FFX to the point that X-2 is the first FF game I completely ignored, especially since it was likely to undo the one thing I really enjoyed about X.

All the FF games after the ones on the PSX have been serious disappointments for me(not counting the MMOs since I can't really judge those). And the whole jRPG genre has seriously declined since then too imo. Looking at SquareEnix's lineup of games on the last 2 console generations especially is almost enough to make me cry when compared to what Square and Enix had on the SNES or PSX.
Funnily enough FF 12 is my absolute favorite FF game period.

Along with other games that takes place in Ivalice.

I also think that FF 12 is the best game in FF series. But it seems that it also marked the end of the series. FF XIII+ were something "other", not really fitting main series at all.

What the game lacks in story it makes up for Lore.

The lore and world building of FF 12 fascinates me.

Ivalice has a rich history.

And the sad thing is this game could have been even better if it was not for studio interference.

Personally, I feel that way about FF5. FF5 was wonderful, while FF6+ didn't really fit the main series (except *maybe* 9. though that one has some of the same flaws that 6 has).
