The last of the PS1 Final Fantasy games is finally getting a PC port: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/ff9/en/

It'll add higher res graphics, and a couple of nifty features like faster load times for battles. Which is pretty awesome -- Final Fantasy IX is a great game, and it's cool that it's getting another bite at the apple. Screenshots are available here: http://app.famitsu.com/20160101_627529/

Obviously, GOG won't get it (when do they ever?), but it's still good news.

You can always say "oh, it's the one with with the ridiculous characters and impossible, idiotic weapons!", and you'll probably be right :D
It's the one that tries to be a throwback to classic FF games, and is the only (offline) one since 6 to have 4 character parties and strictly defined roles.

However, some of the issues I have with FF6 are also present in FF9 and actually worse in the latter.
If VII was 1.63 GB on a 6S+ and was only 3 disks, how much bigger do you think IX will be (VII on PC is 1574 MB) with all the remastering and its 4 disks (PS1 version)?
That is good news. I've never played it through, but what I played of FF IX I really enjoyed. It would be even better if it did come here, but that's not very likely to happen...
One thought occurred to me after typing my previous post:

Is it possible to game over in the middle of a summon animation?

One of the issues with this game is that time does not stop during attack animations. This means that a sequence like the following is possible:

1. Enemy casts Shell.
2. Party member uses a summon and gets the long animation.
3. Shell wears off during the animation.
4. The spell hits, with Shell not reducing the damage.

In the meantime, any party member with Auto-Regen equipped just recovered a lot of HP. (The Regen spell might work, but might not last the full animation length.)
It'll probably a PSX port rather than a true PC port. And this time, there will be no legacy non-Suckeam version. I'll stick around instead for the Android version, but I've to say that Square has yet to release FFVII for Android... Come on already!!

IX was the last "old" FF as I remember it, before the series went 3D and the last one on the original Playstation.
I swear, sometimes I wish GOG has DRM...

I loved the original, a real love letter to old school final fantasy games. Too bad X followed it and killed the whole classic momentum.
IX was the last good Final Fantasy. :V

Um, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of all of us being here, and not on Steam?

To be clear: it would.

I still don't understand why Square is on GOG, and yet GOG only ever gets the Eidos stuff from them.

Well, kinda...
But gog still has the better selection of old games in its catalog than steam.

And like I said, "sometimes", I actually don't like DRM. Just that some games make me wish for it, because I like them so much and know they'll never be here without DRM.
I'm here for the oldies, not DRM-free.
Of course I despise the FF series so I wouldn't buy it anyway.
It would be good publicity for GOG though.
