How can I get a file from an iPhone onto a PC, specifically the sound (.WAV?) file for the voice that says to leave a message when someone calls?

iTunes, or one of the 3rd party alternatives.
I only have an iPad, for music production. I dropped the awkward file transfer idea a long time ago. I just record audio on my PC.

Yeah, but I need to get a file that is on the phone, and it's not anywhere else but there, so I need to get it to my PC. Also, I'm entirely unfamiliar with iPhones, because I've never used one.

iTunes was mentioned, which is Apples PC based iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod) management software. It's used to back-up/transfer, delete/erase, reset, purchase and all manner of thinks for the aforementioned iOS based devices. You can download it from Apple.com...

Oh, and it's free? I was under the impression that it was a subscription service. But then I'd be able to access the files on the iPhone through the PC? I guess I was under the impression that it would be something more like storing files on a removable device in the iPhone, like something I can plug into a USB port, and then plug that into the PC afterwards.

EDIT: But actually, is it easy to find the actual file which is used as the recording to tell people to leave a message? I have no idea what file that would be.

Then i'd probably bluetooth to a computer and record the incoming audio that way to save it as an audio file.

Alternatively, i had a auto recording app called Cube Recorder or something on my android phone, might be one similar for iphone. If said recordings work then you can simply playback the message having cube record it, then transfer and convert the file to a usable one vs the default type it uses.

iOS based devices (iPhone, iPad etc) are very limited in use where Bluetooth is concerned. Hence why they need to be managed via software (iTunes). Blame Apple, it's all their fault...

You can also upload the file to a hoster and download it on the PC.
Or send it via email.

On Android it would be easy, then I would suggest AirDroid. Is there anything similar on Apple?

Never used AirDroid, so not sure how it works, but have heard the name. There is Anapod Explorer for iOS devices (I used it myself many moons ago) which is more or less a replacement for iTunes, but give you full access to manage said devices how you choose. It's a program that is run on one's computer (just like iTunes), but without the Apple imposed restrictions...

EDIT: Just looked, and yes, AirDroid is available for iOS devices, and it's actually on the App Store...

And for Apple hardware, one pays a premium...

That's a combination of Website and an app.

When both devices are in the same network, you open http://web.airdroid.com Then start the android app, scan the QR code. Voilá, full access to all files and data the app has access rights to.

You see an overview of pictures, contacts, videos, music or uncategorized files, also some system settings, can upload and download as you please. You can also use it to mirror one device to another.


It's also possible in different networks, but then it requires an account for verification.

This is WAY more complicated than it should be. I really want to get this recording, but I've never used any of this technology, and I've never tried to record anything in this way, or really any way at all, so if anyone has a simple, step-by-step process, that would be great.
