Recently i tried to play Oblivion (Elder Scrolls IV), after a while i felt a bit sick.
I had the same effect while playing Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas.
However Fallout 3 didnt had that impact on me when i played it the last time.

I think thats really weird, since i can play other games normally. But every time i try to play Oblivion, it turns my guts upside down. Just today i installed it - even with some mods! (And oh boy, did i missed something...) but i had a hard time playing it. When i left the tutorial dungeon, i felt sick.

I mean maybe its because i played it plenty of times by release .... But i dont have that feeling with games like, lets say, Gothic 2, Super Mario World, Zoo Tycoon, Red Dead Redemption, etc. (you get it)
But those Bethesda Games... Horrible. Is it something with the Colordesign maybe ? Or something else? I tried it the last years plenty of times, because i have good memories with it. I mean i really dived into the world of Oblivion when it came out. But now ...

Someone has similar feelings with those games ? or other games ?

PEOPLE: Its NOT motion sickness ! :D I am perfectly fine with fast pace games. Its just... Oblivon? And some of the other Bethesda games (yeah NV is Obsidian, but you get the point)

Yeah, it's probably the FOV, I remember I had to change it manually modifying the game files for the Metro games because I felt sick after a few minutes and I didn't understand why. It was a problem for many people but the developers never noticed it apparently.

Anyhow, yeah, the obvious answer is that the FOV isn't suitable to your current monitor setup. But I could be wrong; perhaps you're not playing the TES games in first person?

Motion sickness is a weird thing.

Half life 2 on boat, my worst nightmare
Portal 2, can only play of 30 minutes
Xonotic, play for hours with no issue
Batman arkham city, motion sickness
Quantum Break, great experience
Red faction (the old one) my goodness, I need a doctor

Set FoV to 90 = motion sickness
Set FoV to 82 / 85 = this game is great

Same here, i always change the FOV in first person view games. Unlike racing sims where it is crucial to set the correct FOV for my monitor, for the rest of the games i prefer a wider view; for the TES series i've always been playing with a 100 degrees setting.

I've never felt motion sickness, but I certainly have felt strange when playing games with cramped FOVs.

Most FPS' make me feel motion sickness, but the worst for me is Mirrors Edge - makes me want to park the tiger every time I play.

Any work around for games that don't have the option to change the FoV?

I've known a few people who would get motion sickness from playing the original Doom, and generally I find VR uncomfortable and annoying.

Other than that, way back when, I once rented Wizards and Warriors for the NES from my local video store, played it all day and a good chunk of the night. An hour before passing the game I started to feel uncomfortable. I woke up the next day with a fever. Maybe the NES cart had germs or I was already coming down with something, who knows, heh.

There is a technique ballerinas use to keep themselves from getting dizzy. They focus on one point. In the context of gaming, this would be your cross hairs.

I've found that turning off head bobbing, if possible, helps.

First time I experienced motion sickness while gaming was with Thief 2. And then I had already been playing FPSes for 10 years with no problems.

For the same game? That shouldn't happen. However if they are different games, you should keep in mind that some games use vertical FOV, even though they still call it just FOV. Vertical FOV of 82 = horizontal FOV of 114, which is more than sufficient to avoid motion sickness.

Not a specific game, but playing a PS1 or PS2 for any length of time would give me some rather nasty thumb cramps. For whatever reason, my hands really did not like those controllers.

Two fps's in particular have given me slight motion sickness in the past:
- The alien gameplay in AvP
- Prey (2006)

AvP wasn't that bad, but I had to give up on Prey because of those weird walkways:
