Name a FPS game you like that most people probably have not heard of.Mine is Rebel Moon Rising from Fenris Wolf and GT Interactive.I thought it was a very unique game, both in feel and apperance.I even bought a shiny new Pentium 166 with MMX technology to play it on at the time.If I am not mistaken it was the only game to reqire MMX.Might have to look into trying to find a way to play it again. What is your favorite obscure FPS?
Ace of Spades when it was in an alpha state and being made by just one dude. Probably the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game. It was a capture-the-flag style shooter set on a large, hilly map with one team on either side. The only gun originally was a fairly shitty rifle but it got the job done, and the unwieldy nature of it actually made the shootouts really exciting. Plus the game incorporated Minecraft style block placing and destroying, so you could build anything from bunkers to castles and also dig tunnels. One of my favorite things was that a map would usually be used for at least a few hours, and after a while it would have structures and defenses and abandoned hideouts everywhere (and of course, dick sculptures).

Unfortunately as the one dev added to the game it sort of lost the spirit that attracted me and a bunch of others to it. A map editor was released and most servers started using tiny maps reminiscent of most modern shooters where you run into the enemy team within seconds of spawning. An SMG was added alongside the slow, cumbersome rifle and a lot of people adopted a "run around, spray n' pray" way of playing. Etc. Finally Jagex bought the game and well that was it for me.

This vid shows the game in its original glory, and you can actually try out an old school version of the game here if anyone is interested.

Nice, that looks good. A bit before my time (or at least, before I was into gaming) so it's definitely an obscure one for me. Maybe GOG will work their magic on it sometime and get it onto modern OS's.
I don't think Dark Messiah of Might & Magic counts as obscure, but I put it here because I enjoyed it way out of proportion to the reviews it got. And frankly, it isn't that great of game, I admit. I just got really into the action and liked the skill-based character development. It was a little too linear, with the spoon feeding of objectives and few choices to be made along the way. In spite of shortcomings I must have replayed it 100 times.

Much as I hate to admit it,I am not very familiar with the Might and Magic series.I plan to get the GoG ones when I am able,I have wanted to check them out for a while now.
high rated
Here's a couple I remember:
Chasm: The Rift
Gore: Ultimate Soldier
In Pursuit of Greed
Cyclones
Alpha Storm
The Wheel of Time

And a first person RPG, kinda FPS-y:
Amulets & Armor

And a third person one, just because it popped into my head:
H.E.D.Z.

In Russia there was plenty of games, you probably never heard of:
Dungeons of kremlin, Brat 2 back to America, Sabotain break the rules, etc.
You can read about them at mobygames.
Wheel of Time was certainly obscure (protagonist is a female who uses spells instead of weapons/guns), but having played the game through once, I have more negative than positive feelings towards it so I wouldn't call it "favorite".

My main problem was the the "weapons" (spells) were too obscure, like some kind of sphere which would home into an enemy veeeeeeeery slowly (so it would be useless against any faster enemies), and then deal damage to it over time.

Also I would constantly run out of spells, even if I tried to save them. The Dart spells were pretty plentiful, but they dealt only little damage, and some enemies seemed pretty much resistant to them, like those knights who'd use a shield to deflect the darts. Other enemies would just simply side step to avoid them, if you tried to hit them with the darts from a distance, so you had to get pretty close to be able to hit with them, or use them only on bigger and slower targets.

You had one spell with unlimited ammo, but it was quite useless in combat from the very start. It was that "breath" attack which had a very short range (more like a melee attack), slow, and would deal very little damage to enemies. If you tried to fight with it, you'd just get killed yourself no matter what you do.

I guess one point for the lack of ammo was that unlike in many other FPS games, enemies never drop ammo that you could pick up and use yourself. You are completely dependent on spells that you find lying around in the levels, and IMHO they were sparse. It may have affected it too that I played the game in the hardest diffilculty, so maybe the enemies had become "bullet sponges" then, eating all my spells.

The game had its moments though and some memorable levels/places. like that one level where IIRC some kind of big "entity" approaches you from several directions and you need to get your mission done and flee before it completely engulfs the level. Like some kind of eerie mist that consumes the level. I think it was the 7th mission called "The Ways" and that entity was called "Black Wind". It was quite intimidating if it started approaching you.

There were also a couple of other good levels, like that one where you were supposed to defend a city from invaders or sumthing...

I was always fascinated by the screenshots of Cybermage Darklight Awakening when I saw it back in the day when the best fps I had was Doom and Wolfenstein. The idea of vehicles, even pilotable ones in an fps was almost too much for my little mind to comprehend. I've never tried it though and I read that it's a bit clunky

Probably Powerslave or Witchaven.
Clive Barker's Jericho. It's a squad based horror shooter where you can switch between the squad members. Each squad member has their own unique abilities and weapon specializations. The story is dark and intriguing. It's a shame they didn't create a sequel.
Exhumed/Powerslave. The soundtrack is also great, imo.
You Are Empty -- Quake meets Kingpin world style of game in russia... i really enjoyed how it played out and love this old run and gun style. It had spooky mobs great weapons and horribly balanced everything. I loved it... the world is over come with mutants and everyone not mutated has become insane super strong variants of themselves. It's so odd... also who doesn't want to kill mutant insane nazi's?

Psychotoxic You fight the end of the world as a leatherclad waitress that fights over 90 enemy types.. which is pretty wild given the time frame it was released. It's very Cuthulu meets half-life. Shes also half angel (hence the ability to fight the end of the world) and gains supernatural powers. This is very hard to get working, rare as hens teeth and keyboard breakingly hard... but i loved it :)

Infernal You are a supernatural "agent" with demonic powers to eat souls, see though things and see spectral hints written in demon mist... basic "fallen angel" story.. sort of. Came out with gears of War and took a back burner to them, Its rather unfortunate since it has some solid gameplay with a decent story. Music is fantastic and really fits, and the fights are well done. Very much a classic shooter with magic powers and tons of weapons to use.
