Gunman Chronicles was an awesome game, didn't it start out as a Half-Life mod?

Starkrun: You Are Empty -- Quake meets Kingpin world style of game in russia... i really enjoyed how it played out and love this old run and gun style. It had spooky mobs great weapons and horribly balanced everything. I loved it... the world is over come with mutants and everyone not mutated has become insane super strong variants of themselves... its so odd and crazy... also who doesn't want to kill mutant insane nazi's?

Psychotoxic You fight the end of the world as a leatherclad waitress that fights over 90 enemy types.. which is pretty insane given the time frame it was released.. its very Cuthulu meets half-life and its awesome! Shes also half angel (hence the ability to fight the end of the world) and gains sueprnatural powers. This is insainly hard to get working, rare as hens teeth and keyboard breakingly hard... but i loved it :)

Infernal You are a supernatural "agent" with demonic powers to eat souls, see though thiungs and spectral hints its pretty crazy... basic "fallen angel" story.. sort of. Came out with gears of War and took a back burner to them, Its ratehr unfortunate since it has some of the best gameplay and a decent story of that time. Music is fantastic and really fits, and the fights are well done. Very much a classic shooter with magic powers and tons of weapons to use.
I'll have to look into those, they seem pretty interesting.Especially Psychotoxic.

yup and they asked him to make a full game... I still have it and really enjoyed it... last boss was a cop out and to easy to exploit but still fun!

Matewis: I was always fascinated by the screenshots of Cybermage Darklight Awakening when I saw it back in the day when the best fps I was Doom and Wolfenstein. The idea of vehicles, even pilot able ones in an fps was almost too much for my little mind to comprehend. I've never tried it though and I read that it's a bit clunky
gameplay
mobygames
I never played it either, but I do remember toses ads!

MaxFulvus: Exhumed/Powerslave. The soundtrack is also great, imo.
It had pretty decent graphics for the time also.

timppu: Wheel of Time was certainly obscure (protagonist is a female who uses spells instead of weapons/guns), but having played the game through once, I have more negative than positive feelings towards it so I wouldn't call it "favorite".
Oh no, I just named some obscure ones and ignored/missed the 'favorite' part.
I really liked Terminator: Future Shock. One of the first pieces to use fully 3D environment and mouse look, even before Quake. :-)
Back in the late 90's there was a point in time I had to decide between two games for a gift (I don't really recall if it was a birthday gift or a christmas gift): Close Combat and XS.

I had seen and read about both of them in a magazine and, since up until that point I had always been all about FPSs, I ended up choosing Close Combat, a strategy game, because I realized I needed some diversity in my game collection.

And while I may say that Close Combat is the only game I ever finished (with both sides, I think) without really knowing how to properly play (well, I did finish it on easy), I have always kept that weird "What if" feeling in my head.

Specially because XS went on to become incredibly obscure and forgotten and it took what seems to be an eternity for me to find anything about it on the internet on the first few times I remembered it.

I eventually found a not-so-legal copy of it online and finally tried it. It wasn't great nor memorable in any way, but it was interesting to see it attempt to be Unreal Tournament before UT was a real thing. So, I think I would have greatly enjoyed it back in the day, had I opted for it instead of Close Combat.
Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter, Henry Rollins starring as Mace Griffin, pretty good fps with an awesome soundtrack. I think it is obscure because no one ever mentions it and it's not on Steam or Gog.

HellForces, made by my favourite b-game developers Orion Games. Though it has been a long time since I played this I remember it to be funny and quirky (you fight a lot of rats) like their other games like Stalin Subway and Dusk-12.

Pariah, decent Halo clone with an unlikely protagonist, who for a change cut down on the steroids, the story is all over the place but the levels I think are beautiful.

Alpha Prime, another game that for some reason everyone hates and therefore I was surprised how good it was.

You Are Empty, beautiful game, probably doomed to fail because it was infected by Starforce and considering 1C's nonexistent marketing in the west.

System Shock, gained a lot of recognition over the years, but when I played it in 1996/1997 it still was obscure.

Strife, same as for System Shock, has only recently starting to get the recognition it deserves.
Kingpin was an interesting FPS game. It was based off the Quake 2 engine. It was very RPG-like with missions, but it didn't sell well since most thought it was another generic FPS. The first mission alone can be difficult since it requires stealth, but after that the game's pace really picks up!

Yes,I have it on my wishlist for future purchases on GoG.It was interesting.
I started kingpin not too long ago but it was rather disappointing in terms of gameplay.

I think the RPG parts are seriously overstated; it's an FPS, but with urban environments and NPCs that tell you what to do. Unfortunately the FPS part of it is very awkward, with extremely bullet spongy enemies that run and react ridiculously fast. It also quickly descalates into running shooting around in boring industrial type buildings and any hint of the urban-npc-rpg elements disappear. Maybe they will make a return, but I couldn't enjoy the game anymore and quit.

Lot's of good obscure FPS's listed here. For me I'd pick Redline. I loved the easy switch between being on foot to getting in vehicles.
Bad Toys 3D in all its czech glory, some Dreamkiller madness and Disruptor on the psx. I call it the glory trio ;P
