Yeah, fed up with these two, and their propensy to gobble up all of space. LET'S IGNORE THEM ! Let's discuss other series. Captain Future (yay), Ulysses 31 (yay), Cowboy Bebop (yay), flash gordon buck rogers dune farscape space above and beyond firefly riddick warhammer40k whatever BRING IT ON !!

What are your favorite space opera series and universes that are NEITHER star wars NOR star trek ? Be it in litterature, comics, cartoons, series, movies, etc ?

Which ones of them do you regret haven't developped as much as star wars and star trek, or got a similar part of the space cake. If I may say.

You mean like Babylon 5? Or Firefly? Or goddamn FarScape? Oh scratch everything else, I want more of FarScape - such a wonderful universe, not nearly as fleshed out as it deserved to be

Stargate SG-1 and it's spinoff, Stargate Atlantis, were really cool sci-fi exploration shows.

On the video game side of things, Mass Effect takes the cake.

TV: Babylon 5.

Books: There's a gazillion space opera novels and Star Trek (are there even any?) or Star Wars would never ever come near the top of the list in my mind if somebody asked me about SO in literature. Probably Dune for me, although I have yet to read all the books. They sit on my shelf taunting me.

Space Pirate Captain Harlock also comes to mind. And now I just noticed they recently adapted it into a beautiful looking 3D animated film, I'll have to check that out.
