Pretty much what I expected. A fun action flick, where everyone you hate ends up getting killed in appropriately brutal ways. If there's one thing John Woo knows how to do, it's to make gunfights feel violent and destructive. Perhaps not as good as Hard Boiled, but still enjoyable.

There were some elements I really liked, many moments had a lot of emotional impact, and the wolves were genuinely frightening. But... I dunno. It lost all its momentum toward the end, and just kinda stopped without any closure. And the behavior of the wolves (when they attacked, when they didn't attack, where they appeared, etc) felt too "hollywoody."
It was pretty good, but not something I'd own.

I have too many favourite films to pick just a few, but I pretty much adore everything by David Lynch, Lars Von Trier, Stanley Kubrick and Darren Aronofsky.
I also really like Chan-wook Park's work. My favourite films being "Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance", "Old Boy" and especially "Lady Vengeance". They're a loosely connected trilogy, but I don't think it really matters what order you watch them in.
The last film I saw was at a Finnish indie movie festival; it was called "Killer Joe", and I can definitely recommend it if it's showing in your area. I would describe it as a clever, indie action/drama film.
Oh yes, and if you enjoy action flicks, then I think you'd like the Chan-wook Park trilogy and Killer Joe. Warning: they're all quite violent and contain some truly uncomfortable-to-watch scenes. If you can stomach that, then go for it!

I watch movies a lot but if i should pick something recent then i'd definately recommend a korean movie named I saw the devil.

The Raid lots of chop socky, no wirefu, just all in your face violence, not the best movie in the world (dont believe the hype), but a nice ride all the same.

I like that film too! I'm a big fan of asian cinema in general. I managed to accrue quite a collection of films from fifteen years of living in China, Japan and Thailand (in total, that is, I'm not quite that old yet XD). I just re-watched Battle Royale tonight, and despite it being years since I last saw it, I still loved it :).
