Krankor: Although best film for me in 2009 is still 'Let the right one in'.
Depending on where you live it's actually a 2008 film. I consider it a 2008 film at any rate.

anjohl: As a general rule, popular things suck.

Yeah, most of the time. But hey, I like to watch piece of shit once in a while (Transformers, even worse... Transformers 2 !).
A few days ago I saw The polar express on DVD, I was very skeptical but I liked the movie. Not bad at all for a Christmas animation movie.

The most popular movie I have to give credit to is "The Rock", with Nick Cage and Connery. Amazing action movie, almost prototypical/.
The last really good movie I watched that I can think of is Bound, which is well known for the lesbian scene between Gina Gershon and Jennfier Tilly.
But the rest of the movie is really good.
Last movie I really enjoyed in a theater was Inglorious Basterds. It was much better than I expected. I thought Tarantino's last few movies were not so hot, but IB was awesome
Inglourious Basterds and District 9.
Inglourious was excellent. That's all I can say really. District 9 was interesting.

I've just seen District 9, and I think "interesting" is the right word. I liked it, but it has definite room for improvement. It's like it couldn't really decide which type of movie it wanted to be, and so it winds up seeming more than a little confused.
I'll say one thing though: with a slight story change, it'd make a kickass computer game. I wanna get my hands on some of those weapons :-D
The Evil Dead 2. Nuff said.
The best movie I saw?
There can only be one:
The Shawshank Redemption
The Hole is more unsettling than I'd thought.
Just saw a movie I've heard a lot about since a long time, but have never saw for an unknown reason, Requiem for a Dream.
The only version we have here in France seems to be the uncut version for US viewers.
And... wow... I'm still in shock... This movie has disturbed me (in the good side) like very few movies before. The characters are incredibly touching, the movie is brillant on narrative and artistic aspects.
The soundtrack is also incredible.
A movie I'm sure to never forget.
Oh, and I'm sure I'll never use hard drugs in my life.

The Hurt Locker is excellent. As is A Serious Man (which is funny it its own morbid way).
Recently (in the last month) watched:-
Hurt Locker - Really interesting, heart wrenching film and worth a bit of anyone's time, from this list It's the one I can recommend anyone watch.
The Road - Not for the faint of heart, incredibly bleak - the ending was a tad jarring and I think I would have liked it to have ended 5 minutes beforehand.
Day Breakers - Starts off really well which is a shame as it just descends into yet another generic, Vampire action movie, overall pretty average which, again, is a shame as it does start off wonderfully.
Zombieland, Perfect popcorn movie, I just enjoyed chilling out with my mates to the gore, gore and ever more gory bits.
Smoking Aces 2. Why o why? I still have no idea why I watched this through to the end, absolutely abysmal practically touching on offensively bad movie.
Zombieland: Lots of humor and the main charater is a nerd-hero. I loved this.
Pandorum: I loved this because im a spacehorror freak. I liked that they focused a bit more on the psycological effects on the charaters compared to other simular movies. I also liked the plot with the scope of the tragedy that is revealed during the movie. The action is the weak point i guess but i didnt care because i was to busy watching the charaters struggling with themselves to survive in the hostile enviroment. I'm very biased on this stuff because i love it so get a second opinion :P

Well, I finally bit the bullet and watched Transformers 2: Revenge of the fallen.
I knew going in that it was supposed to be bad, but i figured braindead action movies are good for your day off. But OH MY GOD it was terrible. It actually made my head hurt... and i had to stop watching it twice and take a break because it was so surreal.
The only reason I kept watching was some form of morbid fascination about what off the wall thing would happen next. It totally out-monty-pythoned all the monty-python movies... but that turned out to not be a good thing for my sanity.
I spent a lot of the time trying to work out how anyone could have thought this was in any state to release... i mean, michael bay isn't the greatest film-maker, but even he (or his 10 year old kid if he has one) must have seen this was... well... something.
I guess there was an ok 2-3 minute optimus prime fight in the middle... at around the 6-7 hour mark. Other than that it was all just to much for my brain.
So glad I didn't pay to see that in the cinema. It'd have driven me insane.
Also watched Hancock (in my catch up on missed action movies quest). First half was pretty good. Then it went downhill. But nothing on the epic scale of T2:ROTFL

I watched in the theater. The only good part was when the key breaks and this guy in theater started laughing so hard it was like he was yelling and no one else was laughing.
