Exactly, which is why I enjoyed it, same as I enjoyed Kill Bill. It's like a homage to the best movies out there.

Since I moved from Ohio to California about 5 weeks ago, I've seen 3 movies in a theater:
Star Trek (pretty good)
Terminator Salvation (mediocre at best)
The Hangover (freaking hysterical)
I also bought some hard to find dvds since I've been here, which include some older 80's horror movies like
Scarecrows (Unrated)
Bride of Re-Animator
The Burning (Unrated)

T4 - was ok, but it was missing something.
While i was watching it i enjoyed it, and there was nothing overtly bad about it. (acting, effects, story, directing, etc.. were all competent. )
However I never really got particularly emotionally involved in it. Despite a couple of exciting bits (mostly near the beginning) you could almost say it ended up being boring.
Still, it was better than T3, and it was good that they finally made a break from the played-out "Two terminators come back in time" plot.

One problem was that it didn't focus on the John Conor character until right at the end. Most of the movie was about Marcus, and Marcus + that girl pilot were more interesting than Connor.
I think the other problem is that it didn't have a bad guy. Action movies tend to need a big bad guy, and the other terminators (or the first 2 at least) got their pace and tension from the ever present bad guy chasing the heroes.
Skynet isn't in the movie that much, and its too "virtual" to be a villain. Groups of faceless robots are ok for action scenes, but they aren't characters.

Just re-watched Terminator 2 to pick some flavour to go watch T4 and damn...that movie really was amazing for its time!
And for the first time in my life i saw the special edition which contains deleted scenes i've never seen, that got me really mind blown lol

I thought the special edition rocked... the extra details about setting arnie's chip to "learn" and the T1000 starting to malfunction rocked. Though I found the second Miles Dyson scene in the middle to be pointless... duplicated the existing scene and slowed the movie down too much.
I always meant to edit together a special edition that didn't have that scene.

Talking of J Cameron special editions... i remember searching madly for the (VHS) Aliens special edition. I loved Aliens, but in the days before the internet it was impossible to find. I spotted it in a shop for about $60 one time.
I read all about all the missing scenes on the (early) internet and dreamed of seeing them.
When i finally got to watch it i hated it. The new scenes totally messed up the pacing of the movie, looked cheap, gave away the aliens and newt way too early, and generally were awful. the only relatively cool thing added was the smartgun scene... and that wasn't mindblowing.
I guess longer special editions aren't ALWAYS better... just special.

I just watched X-Men: Origins and then the 3rd, uh, original film.
Origins was a pile of strange really, and I don't recommend it but not because it was bad. The film, I felt, wasn't progressive or regressive, it was just informative. It got close at times to interesting characterisation, but then there was an explosion or the talking character just got shot. I can liken it to FEAR Extraction Point because, its just more Wolverine, but it ends where it starts and doesn't expand or retract anything.
The 3rd X-men film though is worth it for Vinny Jones shouting, "I'm the Juggernaut, BITCH!" which is just amusing; along with Hugh Jackman looking younger than he does in Origins, even though its time-lined as a sequal.

I saw The Room today, and while I wouldn't say it's a good movie (on the contrary, it's one of the most horrible movies ever made), it's a must-watch. It's amazing for how terrible it is, and Paul Rudd and others are quickly becoming massive fans.

I had never heard of it untill a few weeks ago, but I loved Rise of the footsoldier. Very good movie imho and low budget.
Saw this week Transformers 2 and without saying its good or bad, its a lot like the first one, but more action.

Dumb action movies with overly kinetic action scenes i have a soft spot for... but making optimus prime do bad physical comedy is just sacrilige.

Last film I saw: Star Trek - Saw it on it's opening weekend but went with the father-in-law last week to see it at the IMAX.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet (haven't read all pages of this thread) but I would heartily recommend A Matter of Life and Death, a bit of a golden oldie but still matches alot of films made now. Go and watch it

Last film I saw was Mutant Chronicles, because I'm a whore for anything with Thomas Jane, Ron Perlman, AND John Malkovich in it.
Best movie evar? No such thing, no one movie is 'perfect' in any way, shape, or form. Most of the movies I like I can watch over and over a nigh-infinite number of times.
I can't bring myself to watch either Star Trek (pap) or X-Men: Origins (Deadpool). I might, MIGHT, bring myself to see Deadgirl when it comes out, but otherwise there aren't any movies on my radar that don't look like utter shit.
