DrIstvaan: Interesting; I see those movies just the other way around: films that have more philosophical depth than the average, but they're watered down by dumb action so that the average cinema goer will find them to their liking as well.

Same here. And then there's also the "The Matrix is so original!" crowd, they really get on my nerves. The Matrix is assembled from a mishmash of filmmaking techniques and Sci-Fi philosophies that have been around for decades. It's simply in a more accessible package.
