As it has always been the way with life, people come and go. You are no exception. Alas, it was a pleasure talking to you, even though when we first met you looked like you were pushing the Linux propaganda like a feminist pushes the wage gap down people's throats in US.

Do me a favor and still make some time for games, will you?

Tarm: Very interesting article. I hadn't read it before.
Anyway the more this behaviour spreads the less time I spend on the internet. It's getting polarized. I can see a future where the internet is inhabited solely by sadists and masochists. :P

hedwards: I've seen this on other sites. Basically this is a "mature" forum. Most of the people that came and made the place great have been replaced by basically 2 generations of forum goers. Each gen has been successively less amusing and less well-behaved.

There's things that GOG could have done years ago to delay this point considerably. But, they refused to moderate the place even as they started to focus more and more on games of more widespread appeal. The moment they announced the new games was pretty much the moment that the fora were doomed.

That's not to say that all the newbs have been bad, but there has been a shrinking portion of quality posts in proportion to the asinine and ridiculous posts that have been going on.

For GOG's part, the site has encouraged the antics and they definitely don't respect the customer base like they did years back.
I agree.
Truth be told we were pretty angry and silly back then too though. ;)
Goodbye Klumpen, I will miss you. I am not as vocal on the forums as you, but it was often the case that when I wanted to write something, you were there first and I thought, well no need to write the same stuff a second time :).

I wish you all the best.

Klumpen0815: *departure*
Dangit! You were one of my favorite people on this place, man!
Definitely sorry to see you go. Perhaps we'll talk again someday.

Klumpen0815: - the infamous Erdogan thread
I had to check to see what that is about. It looks slightly worse than usual though. The Russians getting their goons to downrep everyone was pathetic though.
You shall be missed, Klumpen. You remind me of a less humorous German version of myself. You're welcome back to the saloon anytime.

amrit9037: First McHack
Wait. Hold up, hol' up, hollup, holla, holla, holla!

You tryin' to tell me McHack left the forums?

This is it. It's time to build an insurrection and restore things to the way they were.

We were definitely silly back then, but I'm not sure we were as angry in general as people are now. I think there was less of a feeling that the GOG management was the enemy and a bit more of a feeling that we were part of a pushback against anti-consumer policies.

But, then again, I know there were a ton of people that were extremely angry over that closing down stunt they pulled.

I've noticed that when I get downrepped, it's usually several days after the fact and the posts that I've been downrepped on are usually not still on my list of recent comments. At least not without scrolling down a ways.

I don't personally care about rep, but it's childish and immature to be repping things in threads that aren't still active.

goodbuy, there's just not enough time to reach every goal, so its good to set up priorities.

this almost sounds like its something new. but i can assure you the downvote trolls are a very old tradition of the gog forum. they were already here 2 years ago as i started posting, probably much longer.

Yeah I agree about how we felt.

What I remember were us being really angry and insulting too but we did it in a much more eloquent and almost respectful way. Some posts were epic in taking someone down without resorting to base insults and shouting. Basically adults having a go at each other.
Something like "I respect you having another view but you're so fucking wrong and I'll give you hell by taking down your arguments one by one." In a angry and respectful way of course. :)

I started reading that á la Liam Neeson and it was cool.

They've existed for quite a while now, but it's new for me to observe them bothering with older posts that aren't currently being read. Previously, they'd bury posts that are in threads people are currently using.

Like I said, I don't care about that, it's just interesting that people are waiting around for threads to get a bit older in order to down rep posts. I'm not even sure which posts are being downrepped, I just know because I'll come back after a few days and find that I've lost a couple points.

Ironically, the first times where I got derepped to any noticeable degree was for pointing out that rep is completely pointless and that I didn't care about rep.

That might be it. I know that there were some rather immature people here, even from the start, but it does seem like there's a lot more poop flinging now than there was back then.

I think it's a byproduct of having a much more mainstream audience. People here today don't appreciate a good high quality troll like folks did earlier. I think it's because there's a lot more youngsters and mainstream lamers and a smaller proportion of people who have seen what high quality trolling is like.

It's not just this site, I've seen other sites where it gets to the point where trolls don't even have to troll to get a reaction, just implying that the dominant group think isn't correct is sufficient to get branded a troll.

I used to love hanging out in the KoL fora flaming the shit out of people. They had some epic flamewars back in the day. It's a shame that by the time I left it was largely reduced to a bunch of limp wristed bitches.

The sooner rep is gone from here, the better the place will become.
