Stealth in a Far Cry game sounds boring to me, whats wrong with just shooting people ?

Elmofongo: So what was the name of that mod that supposedly improves the gameplay for example I remember that it made the stealth alot better and silenced weapons actually worked.
Can anyone post a link please?

Didn't really get into the game myself, only played for an hour or two. Farcry was much better, and found Boiling Point - Road to Hell quite good also, if you like that type of game.

Martek: There are many off-road routes to take that allow you to completely avoid most of guard-posts and encampments. Other than that, I've had pretty good luck blowing past them and/or losing them in chases - although my vehicle might take a certain amount of damage (up to a lot). Try more off-roading..
It might also matter which vehicle you use. As soon as it was available, I always used the combat truck or whatever it was called. It seemed to be able to take quite a lot of beating from the enemy. Then again, if one played the game without the expansion pack, I think that truck wasn't available then. If gunned enemy jeeps started following, I'd just switch to the rear gun, shoot the phuckers to smithereens, and continue driving. :)
Driving offroad was quite often also the solution (I recall driving even through a dense jungle, just to avoid enemy outposts on the roads), but certainly there were some chokepoints like bridges and such where it wasn't always doable, at least without making huge detours.
Some things that probably also increased my enjoyment for the game:
- 90% of the time, I used sniper rifles, killing the enemies from afar from some hill or something. I love sniping in FPS games, and that way I wasn't constantly in a direct firefight with the enemies. Close encounter submachine guns etc. I'd use if I missed any enemies with the sniper rifle, or burning the grass and houses with the flamethrower.
- Since the PC versions offers the option for save-anywhere (something that the console versions apparently lacked), I used that quite a lot, and didn't feel bad about it. :) I admit I could have become frustrated at many points if I had driven a long time and then being sniped with a lucky shot, without the ability to save near the combat zone.

To me they are almost like two different genres. I love both games, but for somewhat different reasons.
The first Far Cry is a level-based first person shooter, where most levels are quite expansive and let you roam around.
To me Far Cry 2 is more like a GTA-clone in first person view, in an African setting. You drive around the same neighborhoods over and over again with your car, performing "different" missions in there.
A couple more things that made Far Cry 2 such a memorable gaming experience to me:
- The day/night cycle. It was very atmospheric in that game.
- So far I haven't felt as uncomfortable shooting a digital person in a game, as in Far Cry 2. The way the wounded enemies act, shouting in agony etc., it is almost too realistic. Then again I admit I have only limited exposure to semi-modern military FPS games, but I didn't get a similar uneasy feeling in e.g. COD: Black Ops 2.
- The way you can just keep driving for miles and miles even offroad, the scenery changing from a dense jungle to grassy hills to barren desert... It was great.

1. Sniping in Far Cry 2 would have been so much more better if they included Prone and Bullet Drop. To me Far Cry 2 is more like a GTA-clone in first person view, in an African setting. 2. Oh man playing the game now I forgotten how top notch the graphics are. Not a single piece of texture in that game is low resed. Everything looks like it has been bumped mapped
3. If you thought Far Cry 2's enemies die to realitstically and in agony that you have not played GTA 4 at all or in awhile. Every single shot in that game the enemies react, shoot them in the leg and they hold their leg in agony.

No I haven't played GTA IV yet. I've meant to though, San Andreas is the last GTA game I've played (and finished).
