So that's what I'm doing.
While I get the general idea (and I absolutely agree: traffic in the GD is higher than in the subforums), I also have to say: if you create a thread in the GD anyway, you may as well pose your question here, instead of only linking to it.

And I would go even one step further and say: ONLY when (if) you got an answer to your question/a solution to your problem here in the GD, you should create a thread in the game's subforum, where you THEN can not only post your initial problem, but also give the solution to it (which, hopefully will work for others, too).

Name that thread in the subforum distinctively (e.g.: Fallout (Classic): solution for "cut scenes running in slo-mo only", etc.), and everyone who is looking for a solution to that same problem, will not only find three unanswered threads with the same problem (as usual), but also the solution, they're looking for - right in the first post.

Properly implemented and consequently done, this would help to keep unnecessary ballast (= dozens of unread and unanswered help requests) out of the subforums.

And that would ultimately serve everyone.

Just my two cents.

I was about to suggest Fallout CE as the big core linked but that already done, I just want to point out something though there is ZERO difference between the interplay version of fallout 1, 2 or tactics and the "bethesda" version of 1, 2 and tactics here on GOG, they are in fact the same installer, the only difference is the bonus goodies, the interplay classic version of course, has the manuals soundtrack and the fallout bible while the bethseda version has only the manual.

So the Bethesda version comes with the HD patch as well? I didn't know that. For some reason I was under the impression that it didn't. But the Bethesda version must include some sort of Bethesda logo during start up doesn't it? I mean I guess that would make not exactly the same.

It does include the HD patch, but I dont recall if it has a beth logo let me check for a moment, (I dont use Fallout to play Fallout 1 I use fallout et tu to play fallout 1 so thats why I dont remember.) stand by for edits.

If gog follows their new found interest in doing what they claim. A DOS version of Fallout should probably make things actually work correctly in a different DOS emulator of ones choice.

Do you remember whether or not the HD patch included some bug fixes? I can't remember for sure, but my memory is trying to insist that it did. (my old, unreliable, getting worse every day memory). I'm just wondering because the community edition does include bug fixes, and it would be nice know whether it includes the ones from the HD patch as well (If, in fact, the HD patch did include some bug fixes... a big IF).

for the bethseda logo Q: no the bethseda version does NOT have the bethseda logo on it

HD Patch: No it doesnt, for bug fixes you may either have to go with Fallout CE or go with Fallout Et Tu.

I like your idea better. It's a little more to it, but it does do a better job of saving learned info for future customers. I'll try and see if I can set it up as you described. I think it's a great idea.

ADDED: Okay, I kinda sorta did what you described, albeit not exactly because I had already set up the other thread.

As per the bug fix question, THANK YOU. I told you that my memory is unreliable. lol

As per the GOG preservation of games, I'm guessing since my version is no longer sold that I will not see the benefit of any future changes... such as making a DOS version that should probably make things actually work correctly in a different DOS emulator of ones choice. I'm guessing I would be expected to buy the game again, not really something I'm wont to do now that Bethesda gets the spoils. Some of my all time favorite games are Bethesda, but I have reached my limit with how many bugs they just ignore and choose, CHOOSE, to never fix. It's the same with all to some extent, but man all one needs to to is take a look at the bug listing at the Fallout 4 wiki. That. Is. Unacceptable. And there brand new shiny "patch" that they just released didn't fix a SINGLE ONE that I could find. Not one. Again, that's a choice.

No reason for staff to not have those prepatched files supplied in a "Extras" button on the download area of the page.

Maybe let King Kunat know about it, so customers can have it supplied by gog?

I mean, I hope for the prepatched DOS version to be supplied by gog. Then we can stop complaining about which OS is supplied. As it wont matter....for DOS content anyway.

As can be gathered from this list of files (and their MD5 checksum values), the essential files contained within the 'Fallout Classic' installer (setup_fallout_2.1.0.18.exe) are identical to those included within the currently-sold 'Fallout' installer (setup_fallout_1.2_(27130).exe and setup_fallout_1.2_(27130)-1.bin).

If the game is run via FalloutLauncher.exe (from either of the two above installers), the player will be greeted with Bethesda-related text. The now-unavailable Interplay edition lacks this executable file.

Referring back to the 'Fallout Classic' library entry: at some point in time (uncertain as to the exact date), the most-recent Interplay installer (setup_fallout_2.0.0.14.exe) had been replaced by the aforementioned Bethesda version (setup_fallout_2.1.0.18.exe).

Both of the Bethesda installers include the high-resolution patch, while the Interplay installer does not (but, of course, said patch can easily be located and applied). If the high-resolution patch is enabled for the Interplay version (through the usage of f1_res_Config.exe), its falloutw.exe will possess the exact same MD5 checksum value as falloutwHR.exe of the two Bethesda variants.
