synfresh: I'm sure Beth would love to always have this kind of a train wreck...

Emob78: An expected response. Not the train wreck of which I spoke. I was referring to the lynch mob standing in town square armed with review blogs and torches.

Quality or quantity. You decide.
Reviews mean nothing if players are still playing the game. But don't take my word for it.

http://steamspy.com/app/377160

Players in the last 2 weeks: 2,058,391 ± 35,713 (90.67%)

And that's just Steam, I'm sure percentages are just as high on the consoles. Remember that Fallout 3 was a dumpster fire in terms of reviews, hasn't stopped anyone from buying future Bethesda titles. This one will be no different.

So i've been a little down b/c of personal sad things, but i'm feeling better and i'd like to start streaming again. However, i've played enough of my first character that starting to stream again with her seems silly. Instead, I'm gonna do one of two things, and you all pick which you'd rather see, if you want to see it at all.

First, would be doing a run through survival mode. I've never done this on any fallouts (no idea why, lazy?). The second option would be playing through a character created by you. You make up what stats I have, name, and how I should play (stealth, melee, demolition, etc etc). Am I male or female? Am I a do-gooder or a total asshole.

Which ever of these shows the most interest i'll do. and if it's the character you create for me, I"ll put all the ideas into random.org and use that. Maybe I'll even have a prize for the winner and best/funniest/whatever character. :)

mmmm, no stealth/ranged persona as I always play this kind of character and I've already seen the dumb melee guy done by pewdiepie (named Arnold). One build that could be interesting would be the lucky scientist: put everything in science and the leftovers put in luck (no charisma, endurance, etc.). Call him/her Einstein or Marie Curie depending of gender ;)

You sure you want to start over? I wouldn't want to... There's just too much to redo. Building settlements, collecting magazines, etc. I suppose knowing how everything works and what to expect would make the second time around a bit easier, but still...

It's a love/hate kind of thing: I love the fortresses I've made at Sanctuary, Graygarden, and Sunshine, but building them has been such a time-consuming pain in the ass that I don't think I'd ever want to do it again.

If forced to start over, I'd probably be a drifter. No building settlements. Looting only to make caps or get rare materials for armor and weapons. Maybe build an outpost just for me when I find a good, central location. No settlers. Probably use a guide to grab the more useful magazines.

But honestly, I'd probably just play something else. Things could change, but right now it's looking like a one-play kind of game for me. But that playthrough will be a damn long one. Still haven't gone to Diamond City. ;)

oh no, I always play these types of games over and over. there are a some quests that can be done different ways ( i accidentally killed someone in one, and the dialogue that happened after was really funny), and i'd totally not do building with this character. it would be a drifter. no one wants to watch me build lol. and i've been super nice this play through, so i'd like to be a bit of a jerk second time around.

LOL STILL?!?!? I got there the other day finally. I also just started doing the main quest line too.

yeah, that was what soccorro wanted me to play the first time around :) could be fun. could be super hard. I never play with laser weapons and I enjoyed NV with full luck (dialogue was even fun), so this sounds cool, thanks :)

lol you nut
OK, I've played a bit today (meaning a lot of hours ^o^) and followed the main story to see if I gained some extra perks/weapons/whatever by doing it and OMG the writing is so awful, dialogs are cringing and actually the voice acting totally kills the character roleplay/immersion if like me you tend to play the merciless female rogue... I previously joined the BOS to fly on their vertibirds and it was dissapointing and of course, when you get stuck in their faction you just wanna burn their asses as they're boring as hell.... So, fuck the main story, I'll probably never "finish" the game because the story simply sucks.... At least, playing Fallout 4 showed me how clever the writing of New Vegas was and how it integrated well in a open-world/sandbox environment....

Moral of the story: I threw away my 50 hours playthrough and started a new one where I won't give a fuck about the fucking baby and just live some wasteland adventures, Stalker COP style.....

LOL Yeah, Bethesda sucks at main stories. I actually just saw the BOS fly-by and was like, "WHOA!!!!" but i still hate them tons, so I will not join.

I just started the main story as well. It would be better if I had some sort of attachment to my husband or my freakin' baby, but since they get torn away from you after about one minute of game play, meh, don't give a crap. I wish there was a dialogue option of, "Yeah you better give me back my... You know what, keep him, i'm just gonna go around capping people".

And I agree with you that NV had a way better story. I remember after finishing it for the third time or so, I went back to play F3, which I had loved, and found I just could not stomach to play it. I thought maybe it was the stupid subway zig-zag nonsense or other things, but then I realized it was story. :(

I did a review for F4 (hell, even for Skyrim), and I couldn't give them five stars b/c of the horrible stories and poor RPG.

Well I just finished my first play-through. I enjoyed it and it locked me in for 174 hours--I haven't done that in ages. That said, there are some pretty huge issues with it. I know a lot of people write off the bugs in Bethesda games with a wink and nod and call them quirks. That's fine for some of the wonky animations, but when it affects the quests it's maddening. I ran into a few issues that required console hacking, which is no damn good. What do people who play on the consoles do? There's simply no justification for shoddy QA work.

The story was whatever. I won't spoil anything, but it was okay. There were some charming characters, but you were completely hindered in the response department. The ending felt a bit flat, as well. I do want to go back and play New Vegas again for some proper writing in this universe.

That said, I don't pour 174 hours into such a short span of time for garbage. Treated like a shooter with a few more customization options, and not an RPG, I think there's fun to be had. Were I to do it again I'd wait until they patch the thing up. And it's going to require a massive one.
Holy Hand Grenade...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1138589

(Corn x3) + (Mutfruit x3) + (Purified Water) + (Tato x3) = Vegetable Starch = 5 Adhesive!!!

This from ingredients your settlements can be built to mass produce! That cooking station *is* good for something after all.

Game-changing.

Geographically, I'm not far from Diamond City... but I still have a large swath of locations to explore before proceeding. ;)
If you make sure you collect any bone you find there's one for oil too (think it's chem station though). Useful if you have many settlements (and thus want many turrets, which require oil)

I have scavenger 2 which on top of it's scavenge bonuses highlights containers with items I am actively looking for so I marked Bone, Oil and some others.

Nice!

(Acid x2) + (Bone x8) + (Purified water x2) + (Steel x3) = Cutting Fluid = 3 Oil + Steel

Thanks! I've got a stockpile of bones at Sanctuary. :D

there are some good recipes in there too. like the ragstag meat will give you +50 to carrying and mutated hound can heal rads. I cook a good deal. It's funny, the veggie starch is the one I've found LEAST useful, hahahha :)

i appreciate the highlighting, but for me it takes away from the immersion of the game. i'd rather not have it. I mean it's nice, but no.
