NuffCatnip: Oh, I thought by fables you meant fairytales...how disappointing. :/
I wanted to tell a couple german fables, they all end in murder, it would've been fun. :P
Yeah, fairytales and fables are some awesome dark stuff when you don't look at the sanitized, "we don't want to traumatise our children" modern bullshit. I mean, traumatising the children so they won't misbehave or try to wander in the woods at night was the point of those tales. They're horror stories for kids. And as a bonus, A terrified kid is an obedient kid ^^
(And yeah, I think the friends who decided I would be the perfect godfather for their newborn daughter may have done a tactical mistake, especially since they're the ones who will pay for her therapy afterward ^^)
Personally, I prefer the french versions from Perrault. I find it is often less gory, but more cruel than than the Grimm stuff. The guy had a serious mean streak.
And of course, both Perrault and the Grimm brothers are happy cuddly kittens when compared to the chainsaw-wielding-serial-killer of fairyland, namely Hans Christian Andersen. :Bows in awe:
