Looking at those screenshots, they should rename it "Smear Your Monitor In Vaseline Simulator 2022". The only good news is it's rare to see sites like rockpapershotgun call out unnecessary / bad remakes, so after The 7th Guest non-Remastered Anniversary and the train wreck that was Commandos 2 "HD", hopefully this is the start of a new trend of mainstream gaming journalism actually re-growing a spine and calling out the ongoing shovelling of price inflated bad remakes on the back of hoping enough half-wits will automatically review them 5/5 based solely on their own nostalgic memories / cult status of playing the originals, and not the actual need / quality of the remaster itself.

I owned the old Blade Runner version since release.

I can at least confirm that my old GOG library entry of the game wasn't 'overwritten' by the a new 'bundle entry'. The new EE version was simply added to my library. The old entry stayed untouched.

So the conclusion lies near that also completely new purchase receive the untouched old version.

I personally agree with you for the most part, but it is pretty stupid for a game which has achievements on other platforms not to port them here. Shows a disregard for the customers who want them on this store. I'd guess it's because GOG is mostly seen as an "offline" platform, but still.
LOL, looks terrible. This is what companies think mainstream people want though, no aliasing or grain or whatever of any kind. Smooth it out, blur the hell out of it, then add a sharpening filter so it looks even more processed. Movie companies do the same thing on remasters half the time.

Yeah, this release post pushed another release post from earlier today out of the rotation entirely. And for all I know (since there's no longer any way to see any more than the last 10 items that were added to the catalogue in the order in which they were added), there might've been other releases from today pushed out before that. Really bloody irritating.

just a reminder: it's the same base price as Blade Runner original and you do get the original included.

it's unfortunate that the harsh reviews of the Enhanced might turn people off of buying it for the classic version.

It's only fair that the buyer of the original version also received the enhanced edition for free as a token of loyalty. As GOG does the other way around, people buy the enhanced edition and have the original one as a bonus.

The first bad Night Dive remaster. I guess they weren't able to find the source code after all, and this was the result.

So, Night Dive is also apparently working on System Shock II EE.

I don't know you all, but I'm feeling pretty iffy on that System Shock remake. I dunno...

Yeah, unless fan mods for the old game prove otherwise, I think this was the best NightDive could do with this game given the circumstances. I hope this Enhanced Edition either receives patches to improve it over time, or fans can find ways to make it a little better.

At least this opens the game up to new audiences on consoles & those who want to play with a controller, but otherwise people should probably stick with the vanilla GOG version.

I am pretty sure that those who now refuse to buy the EE already own the original but yes, the price is noteworthy. Usually whenever a remastered or enhanced edition is released the price goes up so that the original becomes more expensive as well and therefore harder to get. We have to appreciate that this did not happen this time.
You are right, they did not have the source code and had to reverse engineer the game.

I don't own the game but an option to turn off the filtering was requested on Steam after release which menas - no, no option available yet. You will be able to chose the subs but - as it has been said - you will only get english audio for now. (They aim to add those later with a patch).

Their work before this has been pretty great, so I wouldn't worry too much. This is a special case with the pre-rendered backgrounds and no source code. They should have left it as is, but they're far from the first company to think people would prefer blur to old aliased backgrounds. Square did the same thing for the Final Fantasy games.

Nice to see this release, wish listed for now. I’ll wait for a deeper sale before picking it up, the original is good enough for me so far. Nonetheless, thanks GOG and Nightdive!
