Yes, but can one preserve something that is spoiled...

Okay, since so far every known detail and fact makes it pretty clear to me that the deleting of reviews and tweets are NDs doing I just decided that the company is dead to me. This is not just regarding BR enhanced edition but all future games from them as well. Asking GOG to delete reviews (which is imo the only valid reason this happened in the first place) , deleting tweets and banning people from discord and elsewhere .. this is NOT the company I want to support at all with my money. I might change my mind if they revert their actions and apologize for what they did but I doubt this will happen.

When it comes to GOG, I would have prefered it if they had just said that their partner asked them to delete the reviews instead of saying certain reviews would violate review guidelines which they don't as proven. "Better ask for a refund" at the end of a review is not against the guidelines especially since the customer describes parts of the game and missing features in detail in the review as well. The customer was disappointed and made the decision to protect others from making the same experience which is perfectly valid. Better refund, save your money for a better game .. how is this violating anything?

Good monday! I got home from work and what do I see in my inbox? Mail from gog support. So I thought it has be about my Baseball stars 2 ticket I've sent a while ago (well, I've asked the chatbot to kindly relegate my issue to a human)... but nay! To my surprise it was about my review of BREE.

While I agree that it's not my best review ever and it could have used a fair bit more work on the EE side of things as main focus of the review, it reflected my disappointment with EE's quality or lack thereof, original's delisting and ever increasing intolerance to this cheap "enhancing" trend as if testing how far they can get away with.

As a BR fan I'm still very disappointed of this whole thing, the unfortunate state of EE itself and the post-release handling is a whole new experience for me. The support has kindly provided me with community guidelines to improve my future reviewing, while also pointing out that the classic version is included with EE purchase. I guess I didn't get my point fully across in my review then. Or maybe it was the ref link that pushed it over the top, I'll never know... I understand that people on support are likely exhausted after 3 week sale crunch and I don't want to speculate about who flagged the reviews for removal. Live and learn I guess.

I cannot say if or how it works, found the link (ref suffix) on scummvm wiki page probably just like you, but I do hope that it does at least something for them, even if it's some kind of small moral boost in form of "thank you" message or something. I added every game that I purchased this sale to my shopping cart with this suffix, as few as they objectively were, hoping for the best. Cannot verify the results though.

A Nightdive Studios developer, Edward850, posted a copy of the current changelog of the upcoming first patch on the ResetEra forums. Here's a repost in case anyone's interested:

GOG and others do not do "preservation". They're here to make a profit.

The people who actually care about preservation create abandonware sites, where they host gigabytes of games anyone can download for free, until some company gets greedy and they have to take some down.
Those are the unsung heroes of game preservation.

It's about the buying recommendation.
One of my reviews of Syberia had been removed, when I wrote something like "If you liked part 1+2, you will like this one as well and won't if you didn't yyadda yadda yadda. So grab those first, if you want to see if this is for you. They are often available for free somewhere".
For some reason they don't want to see stuff like that in the comments.

Sadly none of them have "Tiny Death Star". That game is gone for good.

I had it even after it was removed from the store and then I experimented with moving installation locations and formatted the drive it was currently stored to. Thanks to Microsofts policy to encrypt the game directories I didn't have a backup copy.

When I posted this, GOG, I meant that you might want to restore the lost reviews about the original Blade Runner, not that you should go ahead and delete even more reviews about the new Blade Ruiner.

It seems to me that the 50% discount is for the release during the summer sale.
However, for the time being, the best decision to consider is to wait and see what happens. GOG should allow interested (i.e. the new customers) to obtain the classic version of the game. All while the kinks are worked out with this ''enhanced'' version of the game.

WHat pisses me off the most is that Night Dive consistently treats this place like crap, but GOG is willing to lose even more of its already shaky reputation to let them have their way.

You have a point there, not too many games on GOG would qualify for preservation.

But most abandonware sites wouldn't qualify either.
Really serious game preservation organisations accept only games from original installation media, not warez copies, which is what especially most abandonware sites usually offer.

The serious organisations also don't distribute anything from their archives, unless there are some legal agreements about doing that.

Offering something for the public and preserving things are not the same thing.

After reading the deleted but thankfully preserved reviews, together with the fact that the people responsible felt insecure enough to mass delete said negative but very valid reviews, I have to move Night Dive from the "cool guys that takes care of old stuff" list to my personal black list. That gog helps with the deleting is very upsetting.

This is a digital gaming distribution platform, sir, they're not an NGO :P. I think that's what everybody is trying to say and I agree. "Game preservation" is a marketing term for, in essence, selling older games and making them compatible with newer OSes. All for profits, since this is a business.

Needless to say, I appreciate their work, but we shouldn't sugar coat anything or live in fantasy land.

If anyone is serious about "game preservation" (as a legacy of humanity) they need to talk to these guys and start a game vault :P.
