So is it all upscaling? Was any of the original artwork actually re-rendered like Grim Fandango?

mrkgnao: GOG, you might want to update the game page.

It currently reads:
"Only on GOG For the price of Blade Runner - Enhanced Edition, the original version of Blade Runner is also added to your GOG library" (my highlight).

But apparently the highlighted part in no longer correct. See here:

At least the higher price is still exclusive ;)

nope

That's a regional pricing thing. In the US and most of the world, the price is the same ($10) on both steam and GOG.

I don't think Grim Fandango re-rendered anything that was pre-rendered. Obviously the characters are real-time so they're re-rendered many times a second any time anyone plays.

According to https://www.gog.com/game/grim_fandango_remastered the character textures were actually repainted. It doesn't mention anything done to the background art though.

Yes, I was aware of that, but that's not what "re-rendered" means. As far as I know they didn't have access to the source files for the original backgrounds or FMVs, so there was no re-rendering.

tfishell: From what I can tell, (possibly literally) all your posts here - at least on the main forum - attack the gogie, like they can do absolutely nothing right to you. There can be plenty of criticisms of GOG, and stuff like boycotting is fair imo, but it seems like it has become circlejerk of bitterness too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_73xz8LuSKY
Has GOG done a single thing for the last few years? Nothing has got fixed, nothing requested has been implemented. Sure galaxy users have a few extra bits and there are sometags, whoopy dodo. What else have they done, piss off modders, big publishers, small indies, push obviously broken products (hitman for example, and don’t give me that “oh it was a mistake nonsense, they have mistakes at every single moment, can’t even post on the forum without typos and broken links). Not to mention all the political posting by GOG, or the downvote and spam bots. No, I am afraid there is no one to blame for the negativity here than themselves. I rarely even bother drifting past here now, only posted a bit this week due to the ongoing sale which I kept an eye on.

Do you need help finding the support page about how to delete your gog account?
Not sure if purchasing this version would be a good idea. Some gaming journos, like the gamer, say it is a "Faithful Remaster".

I'm disgusted by Night Dive.
Once again they prove to be parasites, going even lower than the lowest pirate on the internet.
Because no matter how they turn it with sweet words, they STOLE the scummVM version people worked hard to prepare for 10 years and they'r enow profiting on it without anybody's consensus.

Never again will I buy anything related to that bunch of creatively bankrupt profitering and thieving scum. This is even WORSE than Bethesda's paid mods.

Phaidox: Anyone remembers Z: The Game?
https://www.gog.com/en/game/z
I want to buy the ORIGINAL Z, not this new, utterly butchered version, but naturally none will let you!
I don't know if I want to remember that horrible port/remake... same thing happened with Z: Steel Soldiers as well from what I hear (it's available on Steam, not on GOG yet), but it got "remastered" in the same awful way, by altering core gameplay elements... what a travesty.

The Nightdive remasters are usually a better affair (perhaps they're simply KEX engine ports, yet at least they don't attempt to change game mechanics), but I still wish GOG would sell the originals separately and maybe only offer a discount for the owners of the original games when buying the remasters. Not everyone likes or wants "remasters".

This is a little bit complicated, the problem is that ScummVM is a tool for everyone under GPL, so anyone can use it and even bundle it and sell it if they have the rights of distribution of certain game, just like they do with DOSBox. Now, yes they diserve some credit at least, I know that GOG is a sponsor of both ScummVM and DOSBox, so in the end they make a contribution, I dont know if ND does the same.

What's really sad is that more than a 150 goglodytes wrote nice reviews about the game on the original Blade Runner game page and GOG just threw them all away.

Little respect for their user community, as usual.

This remaster looks like a pile of junk. The only reason I would take it for free would be for the original version.
