I just found out about this. First free game is [Into the Breach] only available until Dec 20th 11am so hurry and get your copy. Epic will give a free game everyday for the next 12 days. Each free game is only available for 24 hours so make a note to check back everyday after 11am. They are spending alot of money trying to compete with Steam.

You can...its been verified by someone else in another thread.
Well, Epic had a number of interesting giveaways. Some of them can run without client, but they need it to install, anyway.

I got Axiom Verge and Batman series.

What i wanted but i accidentally missed, are: Celeste and Messenger (i really wanted messenger, it's in my gog wishlist).

But Epic's epic. I am one of those people who 'd prefer buying thing through a DRM-Free storefront, rather than having free things, in a mandatory client, sh_tty-deal, monopoly-wannabe.
Thanks, Heretic777! :)
thanks for the heads up!

If it was my post you saw then I only attempted it with the 3 batman games that were given away recently. How it works on a game by game basis? I have no idea.

How are the developers of games paid for these free deals on Epic. Is it a bulk deal or a small payment for every game someone picks?
I really think this is breaking the game market it just bad though i am still claiming them.

Bulk deal. "We'll give you $200k for your permission to give your game away".
I assume Epic gives money to the devs for these freebies, so even if you hate Epic it's a good way to support developers and get free games. Most of them are DRM free as well. There's really no downside here.

Getting SuperHot for free is pretty cool, since it's never been less than $10 as far as I know.
My take on the way Epic give money to devs for the freebies is that it's entirely a good thing. The vast majority of free games are smaller games that are at least a year or two old and their sales have slowed to a trickle anyway- so the devs are more than happy to take a lump sum to help out with whatever they may be working on, plus get their product out there again to people that maybe never thought to even buy their game in the first place- which could lead to future sales of their other products. Plus I'm sure that the IP holders are not being forced into these deals- hence they feel they are being adequately compensated against the projected number of sales they lose by their product being free.

For Epic themselves, well big companies like that can spend literally millions on advertising...the money they pour into those free games is just a form of advertising- it's designed to get themselves noticed in a more popular way. They could just buy adds on youtube with the same money, or other intrusive forms of advertising. Instead they are giving devs some money and their potential customers some games and hoping it works. I much prefer their method over seeing Sony adds popup every time I open a youtube video.

True, you need the launcher to install but some games are DRM free. I tested Into the Breach, installed on old laptop and it plays fine on other pc's.
If there is some "dodgy" files that's another matter.
