I asked in the game forum about how people liked the game after the new patch came out, but it's been a week with no replies, so imma ask here.

I had heard the game was a grind in the beginning and that drops were kind of lame. Then the new patch made the game a lot better. Should I buy it?

I kind of want a roguelite to keep handy, but since Nuclear Throne is not updated here and Isaac isn't available, I was thinking of getting either Gungeon or Risk of Rain.

Pfft. "Look at me! I'm an ambassador for indie games, but I can't keep my games updated!" Fuck Vlambeer. Overhyped trash studio.

Litterally my two favorite roguelites! You can't go wrong with either (I would recommend to buy both! :D) and I have put many many hours in both of the games. In terms of which you should get, honestly it comes down to your preference and what type of game you feel like playing at the moment (Enter the Gunegon relies much more on your dodging skills than Risk of Rain, but in Risk of Rain, you have much more leadway in terms of needing good items to make it far, as you can beat the game fairly easily if you have enough skill, regardless of if you get lucky with the item drops or not). And both games have a multitiude of different secrets and unlockables.

Although I will say, if you appreciate puns as much as I do (which I love puns for some odd reason :P), you will be smiling so much during Enter the Gunegon.

As for the Gunegons and Dragons update you talked about (yea I went to go check the game forum when I saw this post :P), it added so much new content to the game. Definetly made the game more awesome! :D But it is more for later in the game. You might still have a tough time with the drops at the beggining (but once you know what you are doing, this shouldn't be a problem ;P)
Haven't played Gungeon but I don't particularly care for risk of rain.
Sorry for not noticing your post, EtG is one of my favourite games, so I'd suggest that, at this point, you stop reading this post, go buy the game, and start playing it till the end of days.
And yes, EtG is regularly updated on GOG, so it's a worthwhile buy.
Risk of Rain is also a good choice. Requires more skill, though, but definitely worth playing as well.

Basically, what the Advanced Gungeons and Dragons Update introduced:
- More guns and items
- New enemies, and an improvement on some of the existing ones.
- Item combinations. Getting two items that combine with each other now leads to some badass upgrades. This combos include: Dual wielding, extra ammo, extra properties, different shots, visuals, speed upgrades and a huge etc. It brings a handful of nice surprises. This part contributed a lot to rebalance the game, as some average items can turn really good with a lucky combination and the game is no longer so dependant on getting some powerful items to have a better chance.
- A new secret chamber with a really though enemy boss (for experienced players). Take your revenge on the Resourceful Rat. If you can...

I played the new update a few months back. I really liked some of the synergies I got from some of the passive items. Most if the gun synergies didn't seem all that great though, unless you get blessed by the RNG gods and get the Akey 47 + Skeleton Key. That's one synergy that'll win the game for you.
Thanks for the replies y'all.
I'll keep Gungeon on my list. Seems like a good game to play without thinking too hard.
Are there unlocks/secrets?

Risk of Rain2 will probably come to GoG as well.

A ton of them. I always find something new to discover/unlock.
Let's hope to get this game on sale soon. I got it at a nice price on some sale and haven't seen it discounted for a while. Worth full price anyway.

Risk of Rain 2??? Wow, great news for the future.

Yea, but fair warning, it's a third-person shooter! So very different from the first game. :P
