Dammit. Taz is awake again. Like this we are more danger to the team than help! My feet still obey me and I'm invisible, so I try to make my way towards the exit. Or, if that doesn't work, I try to at least put some wall or column between me and the rest of the team so that Taz can't blast them.
22 - Kip - Halfling Brigand

Edited actions:

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!" Kip flees towards the portal, and runs directly through it without pause (assuming he makes it there alive next turn!)

I didn't say anything earlier, but I wondered if the reason the mirror was vibrating was because it's attuned to the portal, like a key.

It would be a bit ironic if people rush to the portal and it's locked/inactive.

I'm a bit torn between rushing the beholder since it's at good melee height for an overhead blow, or moving to cover en route to the portal. Considerations:

1) I'm bubbled and have some defense, theoretically
2) I don't have a good spatial sense of where I am relative to it, pillars, fog and spike traps.
3) If mirroring it to death is the plan, me rushing might only be a distraction

Thoughts/ideas?
*Roosevelt sees the steam cloud. His armor will provide him a brief protection from it, and he sees the opportunity to help*

"Gods, if I am to die today, then let it be defending my friends. I will walk with you one day, and if that day is today, then so be it."

*While the beholder is hovering at melee height, Roosevelt will engage it through the steam.*

"RUN FOR THE EXIT!!!"

++ROOSEVELT CAREFULLY ADVANCES ON THE BEHOLDER BEHIND HIS SHIELD AND ATTACKS IT WITH OVERHEAD DOWNWARD BLOWS, TRYING TO DRIVE IT TOWARDS THE SPIKES IN THE FLOOR. HOPEFULLY HE ALSO AVOIDS THE SPIKES ON HIS OWN++

===============================
Roosevelt, Human Paladin
Silver infused Morningstar Flail +ATTACKING BEHOLDER+
Full plate armor
Large One handed Tower shield
2 Healing spells
1 protection from Evil [CAST, EXPIRED]
Dunward Human Mage:
As the Steam cloud wideness surrounding Beholder, Dunward silently ducks behind pillar he was hidden and casts Levitate and Magic Shield on himself. He then hovers up along the outer side of colonnade and levitates in general direction of portal on the other side of the room so that both the columns and the cloud could hide him. As the dense part of cloud rises higher so tries Dunward, so that the monsters line of sight of him is obscured the most at all times. Dunward also tries to be out sight of the strange creature that emerged from the body of other mage and destroyed the column the other party was hiding behind.
Dunward also glances at the surroundings, wondering if structurally weakened part of the chamber could fall under its own weight, burrying the Beholder, if one of his spells could destroy the column on his side. If only the adventures below could tie the monster in battle for a moment longer and then run away from that part of the room into a safe distance, he and other spellcaster could try to use the ramining spells on to destroy other columns.

======================
Active Spells:
- Magic Shield
- Levitate
Equipment:
- Wand of Silver Darts
- Dagger +2 vs Undead
- Healing potion
- 2 Emeralds
Spell slots remaining after casting Levitate and Magic Shield: 1

Lone_Scout: I don't think Cicatrix is really evil, seems more of a survivor and a victim of racial prejudice. Somehow, I feel some simpathy for her and secretly want her to escape, but Says Beldarion is moved by greed, paranoia and bloodlust (although burdened with a screaming halfling). We'll see how this chase ends. :)
Og'rialt is consumed by now-'confirmed' racial prejudices, feeling he was made a fool off for trusting that the drow had actually helped him, and then discovering that she had instead robbed him.
Cicatrix certainly caused quite a few unnecessary deaths by that theft. I'll be interested in hearing after the game what private information she had that made her steal the mirror, and what the underlying motivation was for her roleplayed behaviour. Kinda rooting for her, too, but the initiative dice will need to be very kind to her to actually allow her to get out safely. I'll be thoroughly amused if Smarty is right and the portal is locked until the mirror gets close, both if that means that Cicatrix will be killed, or if that means that me approaching will allow her to escape.

Still working on my responses/actions, and time has run out for today, so hopefully tomorrow.

Sulibor: Active Spells:
- Magic Shield
If I remember correctly, this just ran out (on turn 17), so you might want to recast it. (At least I don't recall you actually doing so yet.)

Lifthrasil: Dammit. Taz is awake again. Like this we are more danger to the team than help! My feet still obey me and I'm invisible, so I try to make my way towards the exit. Or, if that doesn't work, I try to at least put some wall or column between me and the rest of the team so that Taz can't blast them.
Do you know if Taz has separate spell slots or uses your own? Maybe you can try to cast as many spells as possible on your own, neglecting him the possibility to use them against others and hindering your advance.

Lemmus: ...
Just a roleplaying question, but I'm curious as to what would be an in-character way for Cicatrix to anger a druid murder cult, since I decided that was my secret objective.

I'm at the edge of my seat waiting to see whether the surviving adventurers can defeat the beholder and escape. Good luck guys! I'm rooting for you.
Tempted to buy this t-shirt as a memento of this final chamber. A curious coincidence :D
As the beast is most likely to put its main focus on the most imminent threat (that being a bulky Paladin advancing on it head on), I cast Magic Shield on Roosevelt. Then, with the Beholder hopefully preoccupied, I advance behind the pillars in the direction of the portal, taking advantage of the current chaotic situation (dust from the crumbling pillar and steam cloud).

That leaves me at one spell remaining.

If all the buffs on Roosevelt force it to turn on the Anti Magic field on him, then it will leave itself open to attack.

I try to reach a pillar close to the Beholder while the Paladins are charging it from the front and cast Ice Lance on it, trying to aim at the spot where Thras' Lightning Bolt shot off a plate from its body. Again doing so from cover and ducking back immediately after. If I can still take more actions, I will use the Wand to pepper it with lightning bolts, exposing as little as possible (again only head and a hand) from behind the pillar.

If we hope to take it down, we need to do so quickly.
I will be able to attack the Beholder with just the Wand after that as my spells will have been spent. Unless it decides to melee me of course.

Well, clearly I'm not following closely enough and/or just lack the ability to envision words into spatial relationships. So I've got a bit of a conditional action:

1) If I'm proximate to and behind Thras/Tas, I'll give Taz a gauntleted blow to the back of the head. He may be crazy, but he doesn't have eyes in the back of his head AFAIK

2) If I'm not proximate to and behind Thras/Tas I'll...do something else. Torn on moving toward Svartalf's position for support or engaging the beholder in melee in part since I don't have a good sense of where FF is coming from, or the steam, or the traps, relative to my position.
SmartyFartBlart was the closest to the journal and finally picked up it ! "Hmm, after all, it wasn't my business ! I have other things in mind !"

Now What can I do ? I can't throw my axes because I have no line of sight with the steam cloud and the dust from the falling pillar. I can't go in close combat because I have no magical protection and even if I had one, I'm not confident to survive enough.
My thief instinct detects some ultimate traps concerning the portal. I'm sure you have to do something to pass through it safely. I won't go there until it is really clear that it's an exit !

I continue to advance behind the cover of the pillars, also hidden both by the steam clouds and the dusts. I also try to avoid the spikes on the ground or any hidden trap. If I reach the last pillar before the portal, I remain hidden behind it then try to detect from that position any hint proving or not the portal is safe to cross.

41 - Zayd ibn Yasin - Human Ranger

What an archer do when he notice a crack open on his enemies armor? He attack it again and again

Zayd sees that the Beholder will be disturbed by one (stupid or brave? fine line indeed) paladin attack the Beholder. He concentrated his arrows on the wound opened by his previous fire arrow. While doing this he scan the area looking for the safest path to the portal.

1) If I'm proximate to and behind Thras/Tas,
Thras is currently invisible, which condition probably extends to Taz. He moved off to the right side of the hall, while everyone else is close to the left side of the hall (where the pillar collapsed), excepting Darrim, who just arrived at the entrance.

It's hard to do ascii art with variable-width fonts, but:

..............
.*#.B.#..
..............
..#.....#..
..............
.*X.....#..
.**..*...T.
+---__---+

C = Cicatrix
P = portal
B = Beholder
T = Thras/Taz
X = collapsed pillar
# = regular pillar (there's many more than put in here)
__ = entrance
* are random adventurers; Darrim at the Entrance, you and the rest of the main tunnel party in the lower left corner at the collapsed pillar, Dunward left of the Beholder, me and the rest of the side tunnel party at the top left corner.

There's also a steam cloud between the beholder and Dunward.
