Sulibor: Og'rialt I will cast "See Invisibility" on you, it looks like you are in possesion of a powerfull artifact that you could use against the most powerfull as not yet harmed invisible enamy. But I will live the decision to you.
avatar
gogtrial34987: Let me check with Doc if that's actually going to be helpful in this instance, but I fear the hag's invisibility really should be broken for things to work out, and see invisibility on me won't do the trick. (Don't want to reveal yet what I think will happen when I ask for the autograph...) ;P

edit: Yep, confirmed. So, you'd better use the spell slot in some other way.

MaxFulvus: I start to throw my axes towards the tall hag, then rushing to her with, while she is injured, with my mace and my shield to crush her body until she became a bloody pulp. I hope Babargh will assist me with his Globe of Protection and Rudy hit her with his arrow.
We do seem to end up pairing with each other a lot, don't we? A funny combination, I'd think, a thief and a cleric.
Babargh quickly prays for their mortal souls
Sure, I'll go with you.

We haven't had turn 10 yet, as a reminder, I see the other areas have. Not trying to rush, just reminding you.

That's normal, we're one turn behind, if you check the times of the updates, you'll see that when others had Turn 10, we had Turn 9. Doc hasn't forgotten, we'll get the update when he's ready, since it can be time exhaustive.

idbeholdME: Also forgot regarding the strategy:

It seems that You, I and Smarty are currently the only people here which could go engage in frontal, full-on melee. Thulgrun is dead, Triock bailed and Darrim left through one of the doors earlier. The rest are spell casters mostly. So unless Rangers (Kyp and Zayd) want to join the fray at the frontline, I guess it is indeed only us 3.
avatar
Green_Hilltop: Yes, that was the reason why I'm proposing the three of us go and engage the enemies in melee, while the rangers shoot from behind, since we have no idea if Triock will join us or not (he's back in the main tunnel, but behind us), so it's better to be overbuffed rather than not (and metagaming aside, we wouldn't have known the side tunnel team is approaching).

That's also one the reasons why I considered saving the cleric/paladin during the battle, so we could get more leverage in the fight, however I was thinking it over during the night and realized it's better to save him afterwards, since he might get hurt more due to not having armour anyway and you'll have the shield, so he wouldn't be protected as much - and it's better to first take down the hags and then free the captive, unless it turns out Max and Babargh don't have anything else to do (since usually only 2-3 can attack one enemy, and if they're all crowded next to each other, we might hardly have 2 people attacking one due to space).

There might be more than 3 hags too, we don't know the count, unless we can ask Roosevelt in character by shouting.

Very important question: Does your dispel work on an area, or on a specific spell? So if each hag has their own magic shield, would we need to dispel each individually, or would 1x Dispel Magic work? It's possible it's just one spell (one barrier) protecting all of them though.

The strategy which could work:

1. You cast Reflect Spells on the 3 of us, which should leave you with 2 spells, right?
2. If Dispel Magic doesn't target an area, we all start moving forward and attack with ranged to determine if there is one barrier or multiple ones by:
a) either the rangers shoot arrows at each witch so we know where the magic shields are
b) we throw rocks/torches at the Hags - or we combine both a) and b)
3. You cast Dispel Magic (and Thras can join too if he has one, eg. "I cast Dispel Magic if Svartalf's doesn't succeed or there are magic shields remaining)
4. Me, Smarty and Svartalf rush the hags, ideally 2 people take one, and the remaining one targets the one fighting the spider, so there are 2 allies per hag.
5. The rangers target the hag which no one has engaged, so that they don't accidentally hit us.
6. Babargh, Max and 2 other people who want (rangers or Thras+Roark) follow, under the Globe of Protection spell (so that our Reflect can first Reflect), and start attacking whoever they assume they can, without hitting us.
Babargh has a sword and shield and Max could try positioning himself so that he could backstab, right? This would work great if there is a fourth hag there, or if they can move to attack after the rangers have fired their shots.
Idieally Babargh and Max fight one hag together. The other two with them could attack another one that's open to attack.
7. If it's too crowded for them to join us, they could instead try freeing Roosevelt or just standing by to attack in case they summon creatures or the hags move around.

8. Roark and Thras should be careful if they want to cast, so that they don't hit us- it's probably better if they don't attack with spells unless there is a fifth hag or one not attacked by anyone they could cast Poison Darts or something else at them. Otherwise they risk hitting us too.

avatar
MaxFulvus: I can try to liberate the captive but I need a derivation. The hags must remain focus on warriors, while I use my lockpicks to open the cage. I will also need to check if the cage is not trapped first !
Babargh has to assist and protect me during the operation.
A risky plan !

1 : cast everything you can !
2 : go to the close combat with the hags, while Babargh and me try to sneak and free Roosevelt.
3 : checking traps on and around the cage and open it. Giving him a sword and a shield to fight.
4 : slay the bitches !
5 : profit !
avatar
Green_Hilltop: Svartalf's right, I also came to the conclusion during the night that it might be better if you and Babargh move in to support us, and only go and free Roosevelt if there's no one you can attack - since the Globe should provide a good bonus, and the hags might be targetted by our Reflect Spells. Can you backstab and together with Babargh face one witch, if there's one not targetted by anyone?

Check the strategy I provided in the post above, I listed the steps! :)
I guess i can shoot even though she shot back the last one.
Can be more active i hope back from florida

I shall shoot the tall hag with my magic bow!
*knocks arrow and shoots tall hag, praying that it does not get stopped*
Sorry for the delay.

** TURN 10 **

Your spells are renewed and you may change your selection if you wish.

Southern main tunnel:

15 - Says Beldarion - Human Warrior starts reading his book on how to make friends and influence people, there is an interesting chapter about not slaughtering survivors and taking their loot.

*rolls dice*

The tall, skinny hag spits two globs of blood onto the ground in front of her. These rapidly grow into giant scorpions the size of cows.

69 - Rudy - Human Ranger summons a giant cave bear with his amulet. He aims for the tall hag's right finger *rolls dice* the shot misses and sails harmlessly past.

41 - Zayd ibn Yasin - Human Ranger *rolls dice* sensing the danger behind he spins and fires twice *rolls dice* both arrows bounce of an invisible shield 5 feet away. *rolls dice* You choose to back away rather than melee attack the invisible foe.

43 - Svartalf - Dwarven Battlemage throws his shield at the flabby Hag *rolls dice* she grins and lets it bounce of her face. You strike for her head *rolls dice* with unnatural speed she steps inside your strike and grabs you by the arm *rolls dice* you are flung into the wall on the left of the room with a loud crash.

22 - Kip - Halfling Brigand slowly moves into the main tunnel sling at the ready.

2 - SmartyFartBlart - Human Paladin casts Protection Bubble upon himself. You move to strike the tall Hag but instead find yourself faced by two giant scorpions. *rolls dice* The right scorpion attacks and its stinger slips past your shield, it is deflected away by your protection bubble.
*rolls dice* The left scorpion attacks, you block with your shield, you strike back *rolls dice* but miss.

80 - Eranear - Elf Paladin *rolls dice* hoists the spider off himself and shoves it aside. You see two giant scorpions ahead, you are closest to the right one and attack *rolls dice* you are forced to cancel your attack and duck behind your shield as the scorpion attempts to grab you with a pincer.
*rolls dice* You get your shield up in time to block a stinger thrust.

5 - Dunward - Human Mage casts Summon Monster *rolls dice* a Hill Giant appears in front of you, a large wooden club in his hand. You cast Magic Shield on Says Beldarion.

15 - Says Beldarion - Human Warrior attacks his nearest foe, sprinting over to strike at the flabby Hag on his left. You see a BattleMage thrown across the room as you arrive. You strike *rolls dice* the Hag is quicker and spits a globule of acid in your face *rolls dice* you are saved by the Magic Shield Dunward cast on you as the acid sizzles centimetres from your face but your vision is obscured.

48 - Babargh - Dwarven Cleric casts Globe Of Protection. You cast Silence at the flabby Hag *rolls dice* she grimaces and shoots you a look of pure hatred.

70 - Thras - Dwarven Mage casts Dispel Magic upon the flabby Hag *rolls dice* you successfully remove he Stoneskin protection.

29 - Og'rialt - Dwarf Brigand heads towards the flabby Hag and opens his book. A grinning Skull shoots out of the book, arrowing towards a startled looking Hag. "Women are the reason I became a monk. And uh, the reason I switched back" as Morte burrowed through the Hags chest, devouring her black, putrid heart.

The flabby Hag drops dead to the ground, still wearing the same startled expression. Morte, with gore around his teeth, says "I knew you'd be back, chief, finally realized you needed me, huh?" then flies back into the book.

59 - Cicatrix - Drow Ranger stays in the shadows unnoticed, assessing the situation.

28 - Triock Ulagolor - Elven Paladin running up the tunnel *rolls dice* you jump towards where you saw Zays's arrows bounce off. As you strike you hear nefarious words cut short *rolls dice* your sword leaves a trail of flame as it scrapes down an invisible barrier.

*rolls dice*

Becoming visible, a short, stocky Hag with a purple hue to her skin turns and grabs Triock, pulling him tight to her body. *rolls dice* "Kiss me fat boy!" as spikes spring out of the Hag and into Trioch, bursting through him and out the other side.
Triock looks on in shock, blood trickling out of his mouth.

13 - Roosevelt - Human Paladin attempts to knock his cage over or at least slide it along to his equipment *rolls dice* the attempt fails leaving you instead with a heavily bruised shoulder.

52 - Roark - Elven Druid casts poison dart towards the now visible stocky Hag, seeing its gruesome embrace. *rolls dice* The dart hits home but seems to have no effect.

9 - Max, son of Fulvus - Dwarven Thief *rolls dice* intending to throw his axes at the tall Hag instead aims at the right scorpion attacking SmartyFartBlart. *rolls dice* One of the axes lodges into a leg joint restricting its movement. Along with 48 - Babargh - Dwarven Cleric you advance on the scorpions protecting the tall Hag.

Taz having seen Thras cast a spell decides he wants to try *rolls dice* Taz casts Lightening Bolt aiming it towards the room. *rolls dice* 29 - Og'rialt - Dwarf Brigand is hit *rolls dice* his Magic Shield exploding under the impact, in the right shoulder and sent flying away towards the far left of the room. *rolls dice* Og'rialt is unconscious and in need of healing.
"That was fun!" "AGAIN!"

30 - Kyp - Dwarf Ranger aims and fires at the Tall Hag *rolls dice* she is too busy watching the scorpions to see it and is caught in the midriff *rolls dice* the blow knocking her to the ground.

35 - Aslain Melemir - Elven Thief *rolls dice* fires at the stocky Hag. *rolls dice* Two arrows bury them selves in her back causing her to release Trioch.

*rolls dice* The stocky Hag casts a summoning spell *rolls dice* 6 Orcs with crossbows and short swords shields appear.
I at least hit home with my arrows but the danger is very high
30 - Kyp dwarf ranger

Beldarion takes two steps back and shakes his head, wiping away any remains of the hideous acid. Meanwhile, some thoughts come into his mind: "What a weird book. Surely, Og'rialt must get all his ideas from it... Oh, shit, Og´rialt!" As his vision clears, he notices Og'rialt (luckily being attended by Dunward and some stranger dwarf), the dead hag and the ongoing battle: "Time to show this rookies how a true warrior fights" Beldarion engages the stocky hag and throws his book to her face, aiming to distract her and lower her guard, quickly following with an horizontal slash to her abdomen. Taking advantage of the sword's momentum, he steps aside, flanking the hag and finishes her with a mighty downward strike.

-By the way, someone should finish the other hag before she gets up.

22 - Kip - Halfling Brigand

Kip, now that he can see what's going on, looks around for any Hags or Scorpions or Orcs who are not in melee. If he sees any, he will shoot at them with his sling. By preference (if he has multiple possible targets) his target priority will be: Hag > Scorpion > Orc. Additionally, by preference his target will have their back turned, so he can ambush them while they are unaware of his presence.

Alternately, if Og'rialt ended up nearby Kip (or if Kip has no good targets he will first move to Og'rialt), he will administer a Potion of Healing to the fallen Dwarf.
Zayd looking at Triock's fate and said to himself "Better safe than sorry."
Depending on the distance of enemies and their focus, first I would attack any enemy aware of my presence (like the Stocky Hag) and I assume the orcs are coming after me...

If my dexterity allows me, I shoot an arrow at each orc's hand to have them drop their weapons or at least reduce their accuracy and then focus on the hag. If I'm just daydreaming, then I attack whoever is closer (maybe the orcs are not coming after me but the hag is...). If any of the enemies gets close enough, I switch weapons from my longbow to my two short swords of fire damage to defend myself.

"This better be worth it..."

Don't worry we should be able to heal him at some point, so he can get back at kissing real ladies after we leave this place and get rich and famous! if we get out of here alive...
30 Kyp - dwarf ranger

Just a side note does someone have the abillity to take over the mind of the scorpions to make them eat the hags

Well, that went poorly. Luckily I am not stunned so should be able to act next turn.

I've been tossed to the left side of the room by the now dead Hag along with wounded and unconsious Og'rialt who got flung here by Thras' rebellious head.

This means I am probably too far from melee range so the only thing left for me is to cast spells.

So I compose myself after the wall impact (does not seem like anything is broken) and since I haven't seen anyone trying to dispel the barrier on the stocky Hag that just killed Triock, I cast Dispel Magic on her. Then I proceed to engage in melee with the nearest Hag. If there are any hostile summons in the way, then I fight them

Once the barrier is gone, I suggest that rangers take care of her as she is obviously very dangerous at melee range.

That does not look like something healing can fix. He seems very dead. Several spikes just pierced his body all the way through. If anything, we can try resurrecting him.

(Doc doesn't have him listed as dead yet so don't write him off so soon. :P )
"Dammit, Taz! Not Lightning bolt!" I scold my second head.

That head is too dangerous. I cast Charm Person on Taz to get him under control.

If that works I have him cast Acid Arrow on the Tall Hag, while I cast the same spell on the stocky Hag.
