*Roosevelt dodges the spike nimbly due to the magical shield. He marches on and raises his Morningstar, and smashes the Beholder at the base of an eyestalk, causing the thing to recoil in pain. It screeches, snatching him up in its toothy maw and with a terrible grinding and wrenching on metal and bone, Roosevelt screams out in pain. The scream sounds more like a defiant roar as Roosevelt defiantly beats futilely at the beast's mouth with a gauntleted fist. As one of the Beholder's eye stalks rotates seeking a target, Roosevelt musters everything he has and launches the edge of his shield into the stalk, crippling it. Roosevelt falls unconscious, his last conscious thought is the hope that he has done his best to help others escape.

Roosevelt is dropped from the mouth of the Beholder as the party forces it to flee, and he passes from this world due to shock and blood loss.*

@Lift - yeahhhhhh...don't do that.

I will say, Lift killing everyone remaining in a spray of friendly fire targeting a mob who's already dead would be classic.

Oooh, oops!

@mod: correction! I don't fire my spells, but I just go through the portal.

But it would be funny if you and Taz brought the ceiling crashing down, killing everyone still in the room with your wild spell casting!
Og'rialt grins in satisfaction at a job well done, his pleasure only slightly diminished as the other adventurers start filing past toward the portal without a word of thanks.

If he doesn't manage to wake up Aslain, then when he spots Max, he asks him to help instead.

This done, Og'rialt moves away from the center of the hall where he knows all the traps exist, and tosses one of the hag's eyeballs into the air. If it zooms off to the center of the hall, he moves to one of the nearby corners of the hall, and tosses an eyeball in the air there. If it again zooms off to the center of the hall, he repeats the procedure at the other corner. (The fourth eyeball he keeps with him; a memento, which might just come in handy in the future of the outside world.)
As soon as one of the eyeballs zooms off somewhere other than the center of the hall, he follows it. If he reaches parts of the hall that haven't been examined for traps, and he has neither Aslain nor Max with him for trap detecting support, he whips his spiked chain onto the ground far ahead of him as he walks along, hoping that its force will trigger anything nasty.
If all three eyeballs zoom off to the center of the hall, then with the final one he follows, very carefully, still using the chain to make certain the path is clear. As his greatest desire at this point is to find a safe path to treasure where he won't die by a trap, he also keep a close eye on where his finger bone is pointing. If he reaches the eyeball(s), he'll put them back in his pouch, and take whatever treasure has been revealed, hopefully after any traps have been disabled by his trusty Thief sidekick (who'll share in the treasure once it's been determined what the treasure actually consists of; Og'rialt also mentally assigns some of the contents of the never-emptying pots of gold - which his imagination conjures in vivid detail - to Dunward, whose Magic Shields have certainly saved his life once already, and are giving him the confidence to try finding treasure at this point).
If Og'rialt's Magic Shield disappears due to damage, he'll stop and take stock of his position. Otherwise he pushes on, steered by Dwarven greed and Brigand experience that the greater the foe, the greater the treasure.

Worry not Og'rialt, memories of your great deeds will live with tales of those who will be able to tell them.
Maybe I could ease your task by casting Levitate on you?

Thanks for killing the Beholder but I don't understand why you want to risk your life for possible loots intead of going through the portal ? I won't come back to the opposite of the room just for your greediness and I'm a dwarf too, so I know what's I'm talking about. You know, when you die, you find other priorities in life, like keep it and appreciate it, for example.

And where do you see a treasure ? From where I'am, I only see the remaining Beholder and some traps in the center of the room, surrounding by spikes ! It doesn't worth it, trust me, brother.

But if you really want to play with your fate, I suggest you to ask to Dunward to levitate to the treasure and bringing something for you, or maybe to carry you directly to it to avoid traps on the ground ?

About myself, I consider the portal is safe to go through. I remain prudent but I quickly move towards it, then before to enter, I turn back and give a last advice to the other adventurers : "Carry Roosevelt, Rudy and Aslain and bring them beyond the portal. Roosevelt and Rudy can be resurrected and Aslain awaken after we entering the portal. Too bad that some of our fellows where left behind, but it's their choice (I have a thought for Babargh who was a good guy !). Hurry up, I feel something here, full of rage and hate, wishing our destruction ! See you later !".

Then I enter in the portal, hoping to find a safe place to take some rest, even if I will never forget the horrors hidden in the dark corners of the Earth.

Traps still trigger if levitated over (at least mine do, as confirmed by Doc when I was trying to figure out a way to use them on the Beholder), so I guess I'd rather you keep your last spell slot in case something unexpected occurs this next turn where you might need it. Still, thanks for the offer. :)
(I would appreciate if you don't go through the portal yet this turn, in case I end up needing healing.)

We're in a dungeon! We're adventurers! We have two full turns left. This is what we do! (Or at least what Og'rialt does. Treasure is and has been his overriding concern whenever his life wasn't immediately on the line. There's a reason he became a brigand after all...) :)
But no worries if your character doesn't have the same priorities.

(Plus, y'know, it'd amuse me if Og'rialt's greed will cause him to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, after having successfully faced down two hags and a beholder.)

It looks like you've completely skipped my post and some others, since I've asked if someone can carry Roosevelt since I'm carrying Rudy, and Sulibor picked him up. I've actually also wanted to go exploring the room, since the Beholder must have had a good a reason to be here, and with the hallway cleared, it should be easy for a thief like you to trapcheck the room (esp. with infravision, so you can see well in the dark, and I have a torch to light the way).

Just think, the only danger is traps, which you're good at detecting, and we might find a pile of treasure lying in a corner or hidden in an alcove triggered by a secret switch or lever! Aren't you interested why was the beholder here, whether this is his lair and what's in this hallway, besides the portal?

Since Max doesn't seem to wan to come along, would you like to join forces? I still have one Heal remaining, although it would be a great if we could have a thief who'd be able to trapcheck the way for us.
Epilogue #15 - Says Beldarion - Human Warrior

After bidding Kip farewell, Beldarion sets for new adventures. Fresh air and the sun on his skin are the kind of things the warrior enjoys. He isn't comfortable in dark, crowded and stinky dungeons and is really happy to have left all that stress behind.
As he has no place he can really call home anymore, this lands looks like a promising place to continue his adventuring life (and one where there are no bounties on his head yet)
First of all, he should find some village or inn where he can buy (or steal) a horse and maybe sell his book. He is not fond of reading, and this book is probably the worst one he's ever seen, but it has a beautiful binding, good paper quality... It seems valuable and will surely be sold for a nice price. Suddenly, he realizes it is badly stained. Beldarion remembers someone touching it with his fingers covered in hag's filth.

Beldarion raises his fist to the impervious skies and yells out loud: "OG'RIAAAALT!!"

The birds in the forest, suddenly startled, leave their branches and start flying, darkening for a moment the evening sky.

Or we might find nothing except something hidden in the dark, waiting for some foolish adventurers ! The Beholder was only the portal keeper, but I continue to feel something dangerous in this lair and this thing is watching us ! Sorry, but I won't assist you.
If Dunward carries Rudy, who will carry Roosevelt who is the center of the room ? Is he reachable ? Dunward should ask someone to carry Rudy and he should bring Roosevelt to the portal.

Are you actually feeling something in this room or is that just RP?

You misread the post, I said I'm carrying Rudy and Dunward (Sulibor) is carrying Roosevelt. Also they're at the back of the hallway, since the Beholder starting levitating back towards the portal, so he's not in the centre of the room anymore.
