Has anyone thought about brining this game on? I remember playing it at my uncles place, and that was 14years ago. I would love to play it again with some mods so it would work on my newer laptop. Anyone else feel the same?

Looks cool, voted for it on the wishlist, but does it still have legal disputes (as stated on the wiki); might be hard to get it in this case.

Good to see that I am not the only one who has heard of this fairly obscure game.

For whatever reason I thought of this game recently and have been playing with the source code for the last couple of weeks. Presumably due to its obscurity no one has previously done anything with the source code since its release in 2006.

Anyway I have compiled and built the Enemy Nations source with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, originally I needed 4.1 to build it but I migrated it to 6.0 without major side effects.

Now the question is are there any known issues with the existing game either generally or on modern versions of Windows? Currently I haven't had any issues with the little time I've played with it but I haven't committed a big amount of time to just sit and play the campaign also loading games is slightly broken but thats easy fixed I hope.

This is the same as what is distributed with the enemy nations source code so I would say it is the final patch.
Incidentally the source code is for version 2.01 but I don't know if there are any changes from 1.02

Just to confirm:

I just installed (manually) the game in Windows 7 according to the instructions linked by buckstone, and the version seems to be already 1.02.0006 (there was a version button in the game options screen). So the patch from Patches-Scrolls is not needed, the freeware version is already up to date.

The installer is apparently a 16bit application, hence it needs to be installed manually according to the instructions. I might try to install it also on Windows XP to see if it installs conventionally there, but with the workaround it seems to run fine in Windows 7/64bit (you still need the burned CD in the drive or a mounted ISO image just as the instructions state, but no biggie).

I used Folder2ISO to create the ISO image from the files, and MagicDisc to mount it (I don't use the free Alcohol anymore as nowadays it seems to force-install some adware or something). MagicDisc seems to support lots of image formats as well, is completely free, and they even offer a Win9x version (which I'm using on my Win98SE retro-PC).

Oh ok, so this game doesn't have an actual campaign, but more like just skirmish mode? Ie. you select the size of the world and how difficult the enemies are, and off you go on a randomized map? A bit like a FPS game where the single-player game would be a deathmatch game against AI bots.

So happy to find this thread... following the instructions given on the link provided I got the game running on windows 7 64 bit and actually played it for the first time in over a decade. I played for about 10 minutes and decided to save and start a new map. Now when I start a new game or try to load the save it gives me "Error 25 loading the game". I got to play for 10 minutes... almost wish I didn't load out of the game. Anyone found a fix to this?

Okay so I figured out that I have to dismount the iso and restart each time I want to play a fresh map... but I am still getting the error when trying to load a previous game

So the error only starts coming up after attempting to load a save. I only have to restart once I attempt to load a save to start a new map. If I don't attempt to load a save, I can load a new map as many times as I want without restarting, but still the main issue... how do I load a save?

To fix the loading issue, you need to copy the save files from the Save folder into the game's main folder (where the exe is) and load those save files instead of the ones in the Save folder.

I know this comes a year too late, but I just got around to playing this fun little oldie again and ran into the same error myself, googled for a solution and found this thread. Since google was no help, I did some fiddling with the files and found the above solution. Hopefully it may still help you or anyone trying to run this game again.

On a sidenote, when first starting up the game, it complained about missing dll files. If anyone gets such errors, just look into the game's "DLLs" and "WinG" folders and copy the missing dlls from those into the game's main folder (where the exe is).

Hm, I stumbled about this game a few years ago and though it looked interesting, but I remember having problems that kept me from playing very far... can't remember if it was the same problem mentioned here, but maybe one day I'll try it again and then perhaps this will help me.
