Saved Click: Nintendo's soft Disneyian hand gently obliterates a longtime emulation website, obviously with no intent to actually properly sell their back catalog.

This isn't how companies should try and fight piracy, especially when their own attempts to sell old games are so pathetic. Nobody wants Urban Champion or Ice Climber without some sprucing up.

Really sad day... I was getting my PSP isoes, Ps one and Ps2 isos from there for so long over years... Backup saves, i "own" the licences or discs so yeah... F*** Nintendo; greedy bastards won't further VC and screw over like this.

Just went to Emuparadise... still seems to be there as far as I can tell. I didn't try to download any ROMs though.

Will be the next target?

What's even crazier is that companies like Sega have shown a right way to do this. Romhacks are allowed on Sega games, and those ports of Sonic 2 on your smartphone weren't in house.

Yeah, they like to moan about lost revenue. But the what or why and especially how is lost to them.

This is why I like to keep my old stuff on my local backups, even though many others just say "you can always download it from the internets if you miss it, duh". Maybe, maybe not, but at least I am 99% guaranteed to be able to "download" it from my own hard drive. :)

Can't lose something you don't sell. It'd be like the Girl Scouts of America stopped selling thin mints, and then were surprised when everyone else started selling thin mint inspired cookies.

Pfft. People will simply download their ROMs somewhere else then.

I find this an odd argument to make on GOG.com. Most of the games here are presented as they were, not "spruced up." It sounds like the same argument people on certain forums make about GOG, that it sells "abandonware" without any real benefit or purpose.

Also Nintendo do sell these games on their Virtual Console, as far as I know.

Sega did pull all their classic games from DotEmu at one point, so it seems that for whatever reason they didn't like to offer their games DRM-free.

Of course it's all kind of academic now, as DotEmu no longer sells games. Then again, it's also a very good lesson about the true nature of DRM-free - even though the games are no longer on sale, and the store that sold them has closed, I still have the files to keep forever!
