Noticed other people having the same issue, so today I checked and I was also affected by it. Both games simply vanished from the library and I had to add them again as free "purchases" from the store. How can something like this happen? Since when does games simply vanish from one's library without notice? How can I trust that other games from my library will not simply vanish one day without notice?

This is terrible behavior from GOG to simply remove games for no reason and without any communication.

Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is also in a weird situation. I have it in my library since the Amazon Prime giveaway earlier this year, yet the GOG store still shows it as purchasable, despite I already owning the game.

I'm fairly certain it was because Arena & Daggerfall both used to be free on condition of owning another Bethesda Softworks LLC game, eg, Doom, Oblivion, etc, but then they got "re-released" to simply be free anyway (and in the process something probably changed in GOG's backend so that they were 'seen' by GOG as a different game).

Elder Scrolls IV is because the giveaway items is a different store code than the regular purchase. Happens a lot here.

My theory on the Arena/Daggerfall issue is that it is because these games were not previously available for purchase on GOG. You would get them for free with the purchase of a Bethesda title. When that changed, it looks like they may have deleted the old items completely,, and added them as store items, which removed them from libraries.

We all (or at least most of us) had to do that, too, a few weeks ago.
Absolutely nothing was lost, if you had them already downloaded (like you should always do!).
And even if you hadn't - the fact, that you could simply re-claim them for free, makes this pretty much a non-issue.

Well, my worry is they start removing games I purchased with $$$. Again, BACK UP YOUR LIBRARY NOW! Esp if you haven't already done so.

Given the unique situation of these two titles, I doubt there is a real need for concern at this point.
However, a statement from GOG would go a long way to reassuring people.

How is GOG silently removing games from your library a non-issue? These two in particular were free and are still free, but OP was rightly concerned that GOG can and will, without warning, remove games from your library. If the reasoning for this case is as someone mentioned above, that is still no excuse because the responsibility for explaining the action is solely on GOG and not on users speculating after the fact.

Exactly! FREE. Have been, still are. So, like I said - nothing was lost.
Tell you what: as soon as GOG starts removing games from my account, that I have paid for, I will call it an issue.
Until then, it's a non-issue for me.

Then NOBODY will be able to take them away from you again.

This situation is literally an example - the games were removed from people's libraries without warning or explanation. You can hand-wave that away as a "glitch" (and thus attempt to move the goalpost) but that's your assumption and not based off any communication from GOG - and if it is, why am I only hearing it from some random user on the GOG forum?

Can't download games if they've been removed from your library. Can't update your downloaded games if they've been removed from your library.

If all you have to say is, "Well it's a non-issue for me" then why bother replying?

Sure, GOG's poor communication with clients is tiresome, but the issue is not a recurring problem and nobody lost access to anything.

It looks like the new items were added to my library cause they both appear in my games list as the most recently added. It probably just took a while for change of item to apply. It's similar to when they separated games installers for games that were previously bundled together. The old game cards were removed and the new ones took their place.
