omega64: Still have issues in Icewind Dale though, can't kill a "Shadow", can kill lesser shadows.
Weapons are ineffective or whatever.
JMich: Don't shadows need magic weapons to be damaged? Not sure if they need a +1 or +2 (or even higher), too long since I've looked. Weapons are ineffective or whatever.
I'm playing on the easiest difficulty to avoid stuff like that. xD
Guess I'll need to go back to town to shop.

Wow, the recommendations keep coming, thank you! So far, I have compiled a pretty long list with a lot of great games. Some of which I'm interested in playing as well.

Botanicula. https://www.gog.com/game/botanicula.
cutesy point & click, gerat game.
Lilly looking through.
Someone else mentioned it & it is a good game, albeit seems unfinished, definitely worth grabbing.
SteamWorld Dig. https://www.gog.com/game/steamworld_dig
Good game, sort of Minecraft meets Terraria.
Short, but worth a play.
Unepic. https://www.gog.com/game/unepic
Good game, funny & totally random sights from time to time, like when I was in a dark area, there was a small light in the chamber below, when all of a sudden Zoidberg scuttled across :D
Plenty of film references to spot too.
Journey of a roach. https://www.gog.com/game/journey_of_a_roach
Banished. https://www.gog.com/game/banished
Great sim style game & can be modded.
Desktop Dungeons. https://www.gog.com/game/desktop_dungeons

If the kid likes (or at least doesn't hate) Point & Click Adventures, I'd say a good choice would be Sam & Max Hit the Road.

Just in case you were interested in Steamworld Dig, it's currently on sale in the Humble Store for 75% off, Steam key + DRM-free download. Puzzle Agent and Puzzle Agent 2 are discounted even more, also including DRM-free builds.

sanfueg: Hello, GOG community! A friend asks me almost every week for some game recommendations, for his 8 years old kid. The problem is that most of the time it ends up being too hard for him to enjoy the game.
So far I had success with Eets Munchies, and somewhat successful with World of Goo.
Not so good with: racing games, platformer games (Trine series), point and click games (Machinarium, Botanicula).
I'm looking for titles that are easy to play, with a more static approach, like Eets Munchies, where you can pause the game and think about what to do next. Also, I have tried Contraption Maker, and Osmos with no result so far.
From what I heard he plays a lot The Room on an android tablet, and enjoys it very much.
GOG recommendation would be best, but Steam, retail or android are also good.

Leroux: Oh, and since Max and the Magic Marker has been mentioned two times now, don't overlook Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, the standalone sequel of sorts that I found to be much more fun and much more polished than the predecessor. Maybe easier as well, but I guess for someone who has serious problems to get into platformers like Trine they both might be a little challenging.
I'm really bad at puzzles, so of course I managed to get stuck eventually. It is a delightful game though.

Symphony might be worth a look, especially since you can use your own music in the game if he should be fond of music.

I suggest Europa Universalis, Dwarf Fortress, a JRPG like any Shin Megami Tensei and also Dark Souls.
