Heads up for those who care, the title card at the end of the trailer is AI generated.
idk about in-game assets, though some of the cards are suspect imo.

Honestly: I don't care.

Not every developer has the artistic skills to create their assets alone, respectively, not every developer can afford to pay someone who has that skill, to do it for them.

We (= the gamers) never batted an eyelash, when some indie devs used cheap (if not free-to-use) development tools (graphic progs, sound progs, engines, etc) to create their games - I don't see, why that should change out of a sudden, when it comes to AI created assets.

As long as nobody is copying existing (art-)works in their entirety.

Really? I vividly remember people scoffing at Whale Rock Games, calling their titles "asset flips" or worse.
Cheaping out on graphics quickly leads to gamers noticing a "lack of soul".
edit: Haha funny, "lack of soul", get it? x-D

That said, I don't know enough about this new game to form any opinion yet. If the use of AI is restricted to promotional art and maybe a few static screens (title, menu, options, credits, chapter titles, etc.), then it's probably okay.

I don't care what some people did say in regard to some developer and their game(s).

I also don't get, what "asset flips" have to do with the use of "AI created assets".

I was talking about the tools used to create games for cheap / if not "free" (minus the dev's work time).

I care! My hobby is creative, so anyone who can't even be bothered to just grind dots into a grid or ASCII it up can pound rock salt.

If I told them to use ASCII, (which I did), there are tools which make this trivial, developed in specialized programming languages made by neurotic Italians.

Well, at least until they abandoned their 2000s webforum in favor of a strange microblogging format. You know, it happens.

But really, when art is so simple, there's not really an excuse for actually making the damn thing yourself, if you already have in mind what you want.

If a developer can't be bothered to hire an artist as part of their team or purchase art assets, they're game isn't worth my money.


Whale Rock Games may have a reputation for using premade art assets, but they would have to abide by whatever licensing agreement existed for those assets. It's not the same as having AI draw it up for you so that you don't have to pay anyone.
