So i've been in one of those moods over the last week or so where I want to play something but I'm not sure what it is.... I guess some of you get that (I hope I'm not the only one) and I've been going through tried and true favorites like starting another game of Betrayal at Krondor... yet another game of Divine Divinity (man that's a great game IMO except for the bitch at the end), Lord of the Realms (I've still never conquered all the counties in a game yet.... not because of losing but because of... damn... there's a lot of counties) and I gave a quick look at a couple of those I've not tried.

And then this afternoon I fired up Eador: The Genesis.

My search is over. LOL. Why hadn't I tried this game before now? Man, this thing is FUN. It's a turn based fantasy game like Heroes of Might and Magic but it seems to almost have some Civilization like qualities in how you conquer and control and build up each province. I know Heroes had something similar but this seems..... I dunno... much deeper, with much more strategic decisions.

And I'm loving it! And from what I've read, the second game is even better!!

I've got a feeling I won't be looking for anything new to play for awhile.... LOL.

Anyone out there have any thoughts on Eador? Any advice on the first game? (there was no manual for the first game, though there is for the second) This thing seems too good to not be so well known (I'd never really heard of it but bought it at one sale or another and finally tried it tonight and boy am I glad I did).

Personally, although I've only played Masters of the Broken World for a few hours, I felt that the gameplay and the overall atmosphere really drew me in. Haven't played Genesis at all, yet, even though I hear that many strategy enthusiasts consider it the better game.

The funny thing is, every time I see box art or pics and stuff of games and i'm like, "OMG that looks AMAZING" i see it's either turn-based or strategy. lol oh wells :)

no ways, some of them are waaaaaaay too fast. i couldnl't keep up. the time line kept whizzing by and crap. oh it was awful. no recollection what game it was though.

Actually, it's strange, but I've felt a bit turned-off by what I've seen of the HoMM series, but I really got sucked into this one. I have no idea why, but it's one of those weird occurrences.

EDIT: And now we've been talking about it, given that I haven't played it in a while, I'm looking forward to diving in again as an almost new player again! :-)

I have the same problem when it comes to Real Time with Pause games. So many games look really great and get good reviews but I can't get past the core game mechanics.

I do believe that's a so-called real time adventure game, and therefore in a totally different genre.

EDIT: OK, I checked -- not actually real time, but definitely adventure.

EDIT: And now I'm back to Genesis!

I started it quite a while ago and didn't get very far, but this post has bitten me. I just downloaded it and am about to start... as soon as I can find my notebook. (Half the fun of some games, for me, is taking all the info and streamlining it so I'm not constantly questioning what I'm doing or looking at a manual on-screen (ugh)).
