dudalb: A load of fun. Never takes itslef too serously. Recommended.

rjbuffchix: That basically means I can comfortably avoid it, lol. To each their own, but is anyone else weary of this trend where everything has to be comedy (and a narrow subset of comedy, at that)?
Yes. And every scene ruined by a terrible one-liner. Comedy is great (my favorite film of all time is a comedy for example). But what these are isn't comedy. It's audience cringe and not even realizing it. There's a difference between "comedic relief" and "comedy to release tension" (etc) and what these films do, too.

Someone is taking themselves too seriously, methinks.
I give it 7/10. Would like it more if the Bard and the Druid casted some spells, and if it was slightly more darker/serious. Then again, not every adventure in the Forgotten Realms needs to be Mask of the Betrayer.

"Methinks" would imply a deliberate thought rather than a visceral reflex to those of us who don't share your taste in comedy/film.
At this point, we have enough box office numbers to know for sure that this movie has flopped. It will end up losing money, likely losing about $80 mliion. There won't be a sequel or another DnD movie for at least another two decades, if ever.

Good.

I feel sorry for the fans but that's kinda what I expected.

You'll see, in 20 years this will be considered a classic, like Howard The Duck :)
(and Elvira, but that film didn't flop, it 'was' flopped).

As a fan of the fantasy RPG genre (former fan of D&D, but moved on to better pastures), I'm glad it flopped. That movie is not the representation wanted or needed. And in the method by which it was produced.

I meant fans of the movie :) I cann immagine that DND players despise this movie.

Don't know anything about the production however, I am just glad I don't have to see the trailer anymore.
DnD movie is dead, but holy crap the Super Mario Bros movie is breaking all kinds of box office records.

Superhero movies are fading after two decades of dominating box office, and it seems like video game movies are gonna replace the superhero genre as the next big thing in movies.

Disney must be panicking right now.

Critical reception is not so good however.

I don't know which one is the proper criteria to judge if the film has flopped or not, but the real box office data says that for now, it is having a total worldwide revenue of $124.1 millions, the film costs were around 150 million and the critical response has a positive average of 7 over 10 (Rotten Tomatoes).

Not mentioning that the film is still in theaters. It could be much worse. I'd call it relatively decent peformance, not explosive.

I have my serious doubts that the film will end in negative.

The one which ended up with loses was the horrible Dungeons and Dragons (2000) movie

Good, as I never really understood why they are so popular. The first Iron Man was somewhat good, the first Thor movie was kinda ok-ish... but I dunno.

And considering how many times I've seen the becoming-of story of e.g. Batman and Spiderman... I mean, how many times can you tell the same story, with some small twists.

The new movie I'm most interested to see now is John Wick 4, albeit I must say that in JW3 and maybe also JW2 I became exhausted by the constant non-stop action, as good as it was. Either way, I quite enjoyed the first three JW movies, so...

You may still find out. I didn't understand why Christianity is so popular until recently.

kai2: ... I have no time for giving money to Wizards of the Coast, however indirectly through this production.
Ditto. Along with that they said they were intentionally 'emasculating the men' just makes me pass, regardless how good (or bad) the movie may be.

ktchong: Clownfish is just another outrage anti-woke YouTube channel.
If you replace 'anti-woke' with 'anti-stupid decisions', then sure. Clownfish.tv primarily keeps up on TV, movies, comics, pop culture and entertainment news of things that generally going on. In my mind they have level heads so they're pretty good to listen to. Though they heavily keep up on Disney happenings probably more than anything.

Probably a fan thing. X-men (the original movie) was really good, and you got to see how it would look vs the comics. Though most of the good stuff years ago had much smaller simpler plots, that didn't span twenty something movies in a universe. And the love behind them being made was more genuine than what's being pumped out now, and not being kept to the original source material from before Disney bought it.

If i had to guess it's also childish power fantasy thing. Ever watched Superman as a kid and wished you could fly? A good Superman game i'd happily probably get, and someone did a demo using the newest Unreal Engine which looks like something i'd want to do, to some degree. But bring a character i'm unfamiliar with (say, ant man or something) i'd be far less inclined movie or game-wise.
